I think the recent gain tones are getting insanely good, as I’ve found more creative ways of using all of the different drive pedals. Fun stuff, thanks PS!!
you mean the tone of his speakers and amp... lol. the pickups are literally the smallest part in that equation. stop believing everything you see on tv lol. just teasing but for real tho. have fun!
@@Zombie_13x33 wouldnt call it the smallest part, I understand what all goes into tone. If you think its the smallest part id recommend upgrading your headphones lol. Moderns dont sound anything like emgs, seymores or juggernauts. Not trying to start a tone debate but, it has nothing to do with as seen on tv. 🤟 Happy 4th!
My gosh! Thomas, Phenomenal player my guy! Love watching you play and you have killer guitars too I think I’m gonna get those Fishman open cores for my Jim root tele, not to happy with the EMGs. Thanks for the demo video. Cheers from Chicago!🍺
The "bridge spilit" sound sounds more like both inner coils and the "neck split" sound sounds more like both outer coils. And back in the day you could split the existing voicings of the Modern by adding wires to the pickup, that's how Strandberg for example did it. Regardless, these sound sick!
So I bought the mcrocklin suite when it first came out and it didn't even have a tuner on it yet LOL but then there was an update and I got the tuner like a month later and I've never done anything again. So is there another update???
1.2 (‘Sonic Empire’) is the current release, and that is a big upgrade from the first release. Definitely update to that version if you’ve already! We’re currently working on our biggest update by far, it’s v1.5 ‘Ground Control’ it’s not quite out yet, it’ll be a free update for anyone that owns/purchases the plugin. So peeps can take advantage of the current special offer get tones of killer tones, and a free update to 1.5 upon launch. Hope that helps mate 👍🏻
@McRocklin Sure does. Thanks for all of your content and hard work on this plugin. You've come quite a long way, from a few years ago when you got on TH-cam. Seems it was the right move for you! As we say in the Mountain bike world, keep sending it!
What's the difference of single coil mode between this new one and with the previous modern one? I believe there's a pad (CT and H) on the bottom side of the previous modern to toggle single coil mode (either South or North coil, depends on the way we wire those pad)
I’m not sure what the technical details are, but these have a much more pronounced sparkly and brightness quality to them (on voice 3) which works really well for my taste, and that modern progressive type of playing.
This is the exact tone I'm trying to achieve, but I'm struggling to find a 5 way switch wiring diagram for this setup, as fishman only have a diagram for a three way blade. Is there any chance you might have a wiring diagram available?
i do have those pickups you can clearly hear the difference of the two voices on the clean channel, when it comes to distortion its tough to hear and clarify the different voices tho so i would say get those if you want some nice and clean sounds, bceause at the end of the day when distortion takes place everything is irrelevant
Hmmm it’s definitely more subtle for sure, but I enjoy the way they push certain frequencies etc. it’s cool, but the fact that they’re so good at keeping the noise down in recording and live situations is great.
I am just wondering, because I heard that the Matt Heavy do have 60cycle hum in the single coil mode. So is it not a typical "coil split" as on regular humbuckers, rather than a voicing(which eliminates the hum)? I can’t find any information on the web.
Great playing as usual. Guitar is gorgeous, but, probably you tube compression , the voices 1 and 2 sounded identical with high gain. Cleans sound superb though.
How do you find these compare to open core Classics or your version? I prefer alnico and medium output. But these sound great. I’m assuming you are using ceramic bridge and alnico neck?
I guess mine have a little more of a pronounced split tone, which works great for sparkly and aggressive single-coil like tones. The full info can by found here: www.fishman.com/portfolio/fluence-custom-series-thomas-mcrocklin-6-string-pickup-set/ Cheers!
Hey Thomas-I’m about to order my first Kiesel but can’t decide between an Aries or DC (both with bevels). I like the classic look of the DC, but do you find a difference in playability between the two? Is the Aries significantly lighter/more comfortable?
Hey, I’d go A2 personally. It’s their latest model and is amazing. But it also depends if you want a neck through or a bolt on. I personally prefer bolt on so the Aries, especially the A2 wins for me.
Can anyone tell me if they have experience how these sound compared to Fishman Moderns. I had those in 2 guitar and also bmfound they where missing something. Ive been debating sd nazgul or black winter or pegasus, also considered bkp after and juggernauts and lastly the fishman open core classic. I know thats alot but i want something i can play tight modern metal and prog metal but always has dynamics to clean and do blues and classic rock. Can anyone give me an idea ive have the fishman moderns and the nazgul. And i have a 55/66 tw and i dont like them. Anyhelp is greatly appreciated sorry for the long message
We only have one plugin, so far. Do you mostly play on stage or at home/studio? I have QC, AxeFx, Kemper and only use this single plugin for everything.
We use floor midi controllers such as Blackstar live logic, Morningstar M8 series. They all work well, especially as the upcoming update also includes native midi and other new features.

I'm either absolutely deaf or witnessing another example of the emperor's new cloths. The difference between voice 1 and voice 2 coming out of my studio monitors is minute, not at all a "big difference". Slightly more boomy in voice 2 maybe but really I don't know if I'm listening with my eyes or ears there. When I owned a guitar with Fishman's it had the same experience: the difference between voice 1 and 2 was not worth the trouble of pulling out the pot. I couldn't tell them apart blind folded. Maybe in the room it felt different, though my past experience suggests otherwise?.
Hey, I guess what you’re not feeling is the slight difference in feel/output. On a clean DI track you can really clearly hear the difference between voice 1 and 2. Have you tried a set of Fishman Fluence before?
@@McRocklinI used to own an Epiphone Prophecy Extura with the Fishman set that came with that guitar and a Chapman with aftermarket Fishman's (either classic or modern, can't remember). It's quite possible that the DI showcases it much clearer. The tones you used at the start are similar to the tones I would use, maybe the high gain compression covers it up.
Pickups are a tricky thing altogether, with subtlety (mostly has to do with how it hits the preamp). I'm listening on half decent ear buds, and the difference I heard is voice one is a super modern active thing (super clear, very plain highs, super tight metal-esque lows), and voice 2 seems to have a more traditional, more passive-esque sound to me (slightly more sparkly highs and more pronounced mids). The big difference is in the mids to me, but ultimately, differences in pickups are very, very subtle, especially within one specific type (humbucker vs single coil, etc). Especially, when you're boosting with a tube screamer into the front of an Amp, they all virtually sound the same.
"Is it more than just heavy tones!?" Probably. I play heavy music through my Cutlass which has 3 single coils. I'm sure all the naysayers will start to scream otherwise, but they're wrong. Your plug-ins and AR Sim cabs are what's contributing the most to your "brootz toens"
Not gonna complain at that haha. Overall sure, my set are tuned to exactly what works for me, but these are such a big improvement over the original modern series. I really like them.
The 3rd voice is JUST what these needed. Love the red on red. Maybe some McRocklin signatures in red (or another color)?
💯 that new 3rd voice is fantastic. The shape is super cool, could be lovely in purple. We’ll see haha.

What is the thing on the guitar by the lower strap lock?
It’s a mount for the Fishman TriplePlay 👍🏻 (midi system) it’s not in use here.
Love these pickups
Which configurations did you wire up exactly for position 2 and 4? Are these split inner and outer coils? It sounds great.
I want that whole guitar!

Is the guitar available to buy?

They sound great! Have you tried the Kiesel Polarity pickups? They also sound great and have multiple voices :)
Yep, this guitar actually came with them. (They're decent) Then I changed to the Classics and now the Modern V2.

Nowhere near that of passive.

Hey Mike! Thank you!! :)
Does it have any hums or do you use a noise gate?
