Rebecca and Megan Lovell formed the southern roots rock duo Larkin Poe in 2010 after the disbandment of their americana/bluegrass project "the Lovell Sisters". As Larkin Poe, the duo wield guitar and lap steel with ferocity, belting out vocal lines that match the intensity of this aggressive instrumentation. They're born stars whose experience collaborating with Elvis Costello, Conor Oberst and T Bone Burnett has given the sisters full control of every stage on which they perform. They have an awful lot of original work for a mere 'cover band'...
Most of their work is original. Not only that, they're getting big and those of us who are NOT 2, with tons of music experience, singing, playing and listening to live and recorded music from all of the 5 or 6 genres of music we enjoy, actually have good reason to like this band. Why do the juvenile name calling thing, when in truth, we all get to make our own choices....without being insulted.
He's still a child. This kind of response is classic, teenage, brain bleed.

This is real American roots rock at it's best. The lead singer is fantastic, grouling deep voice that's feminine but with a rough edge and a huge range that's always on key even without autotune. Her guitar playing is straight ahead rocking, almost like Dick Dale in spirit.. But the slide player is truly amazing, at times she has the perfect restraint of Ry Cooder, and then the total abandonment of typical slide lines with wild spaced out riffs that build up in the background, coupled with the bluesy lines of Robert Johnson, and the melodic tones of Goerge Harrison, all just blasted out her amp with every note in absolute perfection.
They are so good it's almost impossible to put it into words, but you did a pretty good job

Absolutely fantastic. Her voice is so powerful and pitch perfect. Together they bring back that rock and roll many of us miss so much.

If these girls don't go all the way to the top, there is something very wrong. Her voice is outstanding, the lap steel player is 100% bad ass to the core and their songs are really really good. They perform like 30 year veterans and I have honestly never seen anything like them. Damn right girls, show the world what you got. You're so damn bad ass, that you have bad assery coming out of every part of you both. Rock and fucking roll!

I once had one of those lap slides. A Rickenbacher 1940ish. David Lindly looked at it to buy but passed. They are loud and fun. Had slotted screws cause Philips weren't invented yet. She plays better than I ever could. What a super sounding band. My new favs!

Funny how Rebecca is kinda the front of the band in terms of talking and singing the most, but Megan's slide is life itself. So good. No "fifty different guitars". One Rickenbacker, and it wails.
This is all that Melissa Etheridge and Bonnie Raitt were ever going for.
I'm amazed by how tight they sound. I really can't imagine them sounding any better in studio.

A orange amp and a bridge position humbucker. There's some heaviness in this blues band. I love it.
hi there, I know it's been two years, but that's not a humbucker, it's a pick-up called "horseshoe". I think Rickenbacker built it, but I might be wrong on that. Anyway, Megan's got a new axe now, since this one's too heavy for playing standing up, like she does, so she got herself a lighter one. She kept the horseshoe, though.
These ladies are amazing. They compliment each other perfectly. They are bound for greatness.

Rebecca is a great singer, guitar and mandolin player, and she is also beautiful and full of life, Meghan is quietly sexy, and plays the best slide guitar I have ever heard! The two of them with their southern blues roots and amazing to see!

Saw them in Glasgow last year, the support band were incredible, the best lead and rhythm guitars and drums i had ever heard live, then larkin Poe cam on and blew them and the arena away...
all my life i got "problems" with female voices. dont know why...exept some special pearls, duets and as backround choirs. you change my complete view of listening.Ha...so you do more for emancipation, without one word or talking about it. ?;-)

I discovered these dynamite sisters about the same time this video was made. This is what mainstream music should be today but the major record labels and radio programmers don't want us to hear this kick ass stuff. If these girls were given the same media exposure given to Taylor Swift or Katy Perry they would be on top of the music scene right now. Sadly it's up to the public to spread the word about all of this great overlooked talent because the media is not going to do it for us.
You said that perfectly, I'm Canadian & i discovered Larkin Poe about 2yrs ago & i can't get enough of them. I live in Windsor,Ontario,Canada which is across the river from Detroit & we have a "Blues Festival" every year down on the river & we're trying to get "Larkin Poe" for next summer Blues Fest, it says Blues Fest but we have all kinds of music.
Yea, they definitely deserve more media exposure!! Although I've noticed nowadays that bands that become mainstream popular alway change! Their music becomes more...well, mainstream and they lose their uniqueness.
If you really want to know I'm happy that they don't get the same media exposure then Taylor Swift and Katy Perry because this ones are the real thing. They sing good, play good, and are based on the southern blues and alt country sound, nothing to do with the other two that do nothing of the above. This girls have heart and soul, don't let media exposure take that away. They're dynamite sisters like you wisely said.

They kick arse, and then Megan slides in with her Baddest Laptop Steel, and it all goes thru the roof.
Watch those women do harmonies, it is unreal how they are connected. May they be blessed with decades of making great music.

I'm madly in love with both of these marvellous musicians, but it sure gives me a thrill when Megan gets so into her slide guitar that she jumps up & down, my heart jumps up & down in tune! These women are just fantastic, I just found out about them and haven't listened to anyone else all day!

The coolest new musical find I've had in a long time.These girls are artists of substance.To fold these influences into the music and sound so fresh and vital is a great accomplishment.I love their music and i applaud them for their brilliance.There is hope for music today and these girls are proof. People just need to sing about something that is real to them.
