Re: your team’s background, one of the big arguments that the Traitor Legions had for their betrayal was that there was a very real consideration that once the galaxy was conquered the Legions would no longer serve any purpose and thus would likely be… “liquidated” with extreme prejudice as the Missing Legions had been, so to their minds they weren’t so much betraying a great ruler as preempting that ruler’s inevitable betrayal. To emerge from the most traumatic experience of unprecedented fratricide in Imperial history only to be dropped ten millennia into the future and learn that not only was that act pointless but that by betraying their oaths and fellow Astartes they ensured the Primaris would be needed as an upgrade down the line would absolutely drive anyone insane, and the Primaris would make excellent scapegoats since they embody the total futility of the greatest shame any Astartes ever participated in. In any case I very much look forward to what you end up choosing for them!
@@battlebrotherstabletop I would be honored for you to do so! Good news is that it's flexible enough that you could have them be from any of the Legions that participated, Loyal or Traitor, since the feeling of betrayal could work for both.

I'm putting together a set of tactical marines that are Alpha Legion disguised as Lamenters. The one $40 pack allows me to alternate between fielding a chaos space marine team and a tactical marine squad (with a few weapon layouts to switch out as well). The painting is going to be pretty tricky, but for anyone seeking a niche 2-for-1 setup it's a pretty cool route to take.
I was just talking to someone about this as a way to stretch a box of marines. I have a feeling you’ll end up running them as chaos though, as CSM are just so good this edition. Would love to see the project when it’s finished!
I do enjoy the idea of Kill Team as a potential place to experiment with Kitbashing. Especially as a beginner to the games, whose only army up until now has been a pretty basic "By the book" assembly and paint-job, there are loads of ideas that i could see being awesome to work into a proper army, but have no idea how it would look like at the end. With Kill Team, it gives the opportunity to run that idea through a sort of proof of concept phase. A smaller troop with a relatively reduced price, you can try out an idea and see how you like it. If it looks good to you, you start building from there. Didn't turn out so good? Well, you're usually either almost done or ready to play with a single box, so why not just finish it and maybe figure out how to fix the concept during it? Most importantly though, the unique models will be able to illustrate your idea much better than a regiment of mono-poses and inspire the idea to germinate further. For example, one of the many ideas I've had for exanding my list of armies was making an army of Imperial Guard with a small, undead twist. Inspired by the imagery in the music video to Pink Floyd's "Goodbye Blue Sky", the idea is to give the Guardsmen a skeletal makeover, with skull heads and boney hands. The "Ghosts of Cadia" as I've codenamed the project. However, if I buy a box of regular troops and while bashing them either aren't as impressed with the idea in practice, can't get it to look right or just think it's too much work, that'll leave me with a whole lot of nothing I cannot get any use of. Instead, I buy a box of Cadian Shock Troops for Kill Team and even if these problems arise, all I gotta do is bare it for the one box and maybe buy one box of Tempestus to give an excuse to have fully covered soldiers I don't need to bash and there you go. A full squad ready to play. If the project proves super successful and I fall in love with it, moving over to expanding on the idea with a full 40k army can now be done with full confidence and knowledge of what I'm getting into.
Great video! As a new Kill Team player I really appreciate hearing WHY you make the decisions you do, so I can apply similar thinking and problem solving to my own team. They could loathe the Primaris because had they been just deployed as they came to fruition, many of their battle brothers would still be alive. The Traitors could think it is yet another manifestation of the Emperor's abandonment of the Crusade, the Legions, and the Primarchs. Another approach could be jealousy. I know I would resent being made obsolete despite the unwavering loyalty and sacrifice. "Why not give us better tools? We have certainly earned the right to be at the frontline of these wars. Our brothers and their memories will not be usurped by a new gene process!" The Primaris has undoubtedly become the standard bearer of the Space Marines; they were replaced by a little brother.
The problem ive had is the person who taught me how to play keeps running thousand suns. With AP and firing twice? Against my kommandos (first team) that stand no chance.
Interesting. Kommandos just destroyed the competition at a tournament at Warhammer world last month, so they should be able to give the Thousand Sons a run for their money! Those AP bolters are no joke though, that’s for sure. I think with some experience you should be able to flip the tables on them!
I'm new to Kill Team. This is a good primer, but you lost me in the beginning around 6:18 when you said that "Traitor Space Marines are build of two, 3 man fire teams." How did you know that? And how can I figure that out with other factions?
Hey there, this was from the beginning of KT21 using the compendium rules for Traitor Space Marines. The compendium uses a fire team system when building teams. Those rules will be in the compendium or also on wahapedia!
Not quite sure what you mean, but have you been able to look at the compendium? The compendium has all the team builds and stuff like that in it that tells you how many of what models you can take. 5 marines is not enough in my opinion, I really think it should be 6 across the board, but that’s just me. Hope that help! If not lmk
30K Blackshields? If your kill team just stepped back into real space after being lost in the warp for ten thousand years a Blackshield warband could be the solution for you; dark, moody, mysterious and dripping in MK3. Also gives you the opportunity to grow the lore in your own time game after game...
Love this. Yeah, blackshields/renegades appeals to me more than straight up chaos worshippers tbh. I like the idea of keeping it vague so the lord builds as you go, never thought of that!
The structure is so irritating. What are the elite teams? There is almost no clarity or consistency from GW about rosters and kill teams and names and races its so frustrating.
This does not help an entirely new player build a kill team at all. This seems like a guide for people who already know where to find the rules for each miniature variation, how to actually build a team now that points are gone, etc. Where do I even begin? I bought the Phobos Kill Team box and the Core Book, there is absolutely no guidance in the box or the book that tells me what I can build, what each build variation does etc. Totally at a loss.

The compendium has all the team builds and stuff like that in it that tells you how many of what models you can take. 5 marines is not enough in my opinion, I really think it should be 6 across the board, but that’s just me.
Hope that help! If not lmk
How do you know how many units you can have?
Hey there! it will be listed in the rules for the team you're building! What team are you working on?
Is heavy gunner a default option? Model with 3AP and heavy weapon seems strange to me.
You don’t have to run one, but I like having the option to both types of missiles to give me flexibility. He’s a beast!
@@battlebrotherstabletop it's often the case that morally ambiguous + really old = very cool. Looking forward to the next installment.
Is this still relevant with the new rules
The structure is so irritating. What are the elite teams? There is almost no clarity or consistency from GW about rosters and kill teams and names and races its so frustrating.
This does not help an entirely new player build a kill team at all. This seems like a guide for people who already know where to find the rules for each miniature variation, how to actually build a team now that points are gone, etc.
Where do I even begin? I bought the Phobos Kill Team box and the Core Book, there is absolutely no guidance in the box or the book that tells me what I can build, what each build variation does etc.
Totally at a loss.
Sucks to suck I guess
Video could of been shorter. It was obvious you were pushing for the 10+ min mark. Too much fluff information. Downvoted
Aight bruh 👍
