I sometimes used to read women's magazines and the last time I did this was almost two decades ago.
There was an article in (I think) a Cosmopolitan magazine regarding categories of men, that women should not have 'relationships' with.
I thought that it would cover the range of male miscreants such as bullies, criminals and thugs, but no, one category was model makers!
That taught me something important as I enjoy constructing scale models, so I gave up chasing women! -thank you Cosmopolitan magazine!

I’m married to a gorgeous woman. We have four kids. I build models. She encourages me to build models. I’ve built planes for each of the kids, also into ships & vehicles. I’m now building a 1/48 B-17 of my wife with a custom pinup image of her on the nose, her initials for the 3-letter ID code, and her birth date for the tail number. I’m also a gun guy, a casual gamer, and an avowed history nerd. Maybe I don’t look like Chris Hemsworth, but I can decorate a kickass war-winning bomber with her gorgeous likeness, and I taught her to shoot, so she’s good with it.

So glad to have been a tiny part of this video - my tank was the result of years of research aided by the LEGEND that is DAVID FLETCHER. I honestly think that model-making has become an essential part of history. Often, modellers uncover facts or depict vehicles that no longer exist. We give life to tank technology that met the indignity of the scrappers torch. Without the innate desire to understand the world around us, history would be redundant, so much would be lost, modelling is a tool for understanding just as it was thousands of years ago when Egyptian tombs contained models of chariots.

It's great to see that this wonderful hobby gets some special attention by the tank museum! I am a railway modeller myself but my Uncle is very much into his British WW2 tanks partly from his childhood building his Airfix kits back then and more recently his renewed enthusiasm for the tanks again. I have been busy buying conversion parts, decals and books from online sellers to allow him to further model aspects of the WW2 North Africa campaign. Myself I have just brought myself the Bachmann model of the Class 45 'Peak' locomotive 45041 "Royal Tank Regiment" as my maternal grandfather was a trooper/driver/trainer in the 4th RTR back then.. so to commemorate my granddad and I can haul the appropriate limestone hoppers with it too.

I totally agree not only with the statement that its a hobby you can get lost in but also that you need to model for yourself. Don’t feel like you have to weather every single model you build because model builders on TH-cam do it (Not that weathering is bad but its not always necessary) and don’t think you have to buy the $129 kit to make a great project.

I was amazed during the first lockdown how many people I work with build models, someone of these guys I've known for around 15 years, someone just mentioned it on our works page & everybody came out of the woodwork. I enjoy modelling of all types but armour & display figures being my forte. Spot on to everyone in this video. Model making is a great hobby and far from being dead. In fact it has gone beyond being a hobby for me... It's an art form and lifestyle. My very attractive woman also agrees and approves of my work. Score!! Cheers to all scale modellers! Especially armor builders HeHe

Great video. I got back into modelling and tabletop miniatures during lockdown 1 back in March 2020 and now have hordes of infantry and a ton of vehicles. Its good to know I'm not alone.

Oh, it never died out. We're just buying them through places we want to support.
My lockdown modelling project has been a stab at finishing a 40K army. Again. I'll have another crack at it soon, push the models through to a state I'm happy with in terms of assembly, and get to the painting. I've been at this damn army so long I've gone through three generations of tank kits.

Thank you to the tank museum for a wonderful video. Glad to hear that the hobby is growing. There was a recent post on Facebook showing MR. Tamiya telling of the model building hobby growing. Having started modeling in 1967,( age of 5), it puts a smile on me, plus glad to see the upcoming generation enjoying as well. Thank you.

I've only recently started making scale models. I first bought a Konigstiger from Cobi alongside a 1/72 Tiger, and Panther to see if it was something I would enjoy making, and it certainly was! I'm currently building a Tamiya 1/35 Tiger I and enjoying it immensely!

I've had a number of tradesmen who've worked around the place notice my models and immediately open up about their own modelling. I doubt they'd have commented if they hadn't seen them - but once they notice the models, it's almost like giving them the Masonic Handshake!

Thank you so much for that brilliant episode. I also started model making again during lockdown after 20 years of abstinence.Like Chris Barrie said, exploring all the new acrylic colours and the whole youtube-channels for techniques are upgrading the fun a lot. Building WW1 Tanks in 1:35 now, a great Addition to my ww1 militaria collection.Thank you, Tank Museum, for your great video channel. Since i visted your museum during a camping trip in south England two years ago i become a true fan. Best regards from an anglophile German!

Watching this makes me want to get back into it.
Looking around my life and how hard I’m scrambling just to stay on top of work, help the little one through schools, talk with the wife on how we’ll deal with whatever challenge appeared yesterday, make and eat at least two meals a day, and sleep occasionally, makes me realize the futility.
    Alas.

Although unfortunately I've distracted myself from modeling with other hobbies for a while, but videos like this always reingnite by desire to model. Great video guys!

I would say competition really. I love playing battlefield 1 and 5 and COD warzone with friends online and make tons of armour and auto models with kids and by myself. Love playing the games, watching tank museum and building kits, painting and weathering and building dioramas. Its all cool.

I was 4yrs when I made my first model. White Front stores were going out of business everything was on sale. I found a Russian Spy Ship (Repackaged as the North Atlantic Fishing Trawler today) and asked my mother to get it for me. I knew about models because my father built model race cars. Mom got it for 50 or 75 cents. Soon as I got home I laid out the instruction sheet and followed the pictures. i use the X-Acto knife cut but didn't trim the parts and had the model finished in less than an hour. The only finish on it was my gluey fingerprints. Every bit was where it was supposed to be and I was really proud to show it to my parents. Memories.

Best, most effective, and easiest modeling trick for wheeled vehicles: Drag tires across a sheet of sandpaper. That will put a flat spot on them where they rest on the ground. Its a dramatic effect and makes the model just look right.

The first model i ever built as a lad was a ww2 Dornier Bomber.
My second... the ww2 8-wheeled German Panzerspahwagen (?) It was a fantastic Monogram kit complete with crewmen... one was even holding a frying pan over a fire! Lol.
    Cheers from Ireland fellas.

I remember that one! I think that was one of those that came with a leaflet about diorama building, hence the inclusion of things like a guy with a frying pan. Monogram made some really good, simple to build models back then, but in 1/32, which I never understood. Erin go bragh!

Little tip for anyone getting into modelling: If you hoover/generally tidy the floor after every session model building it has 2 effects. 1. It makes it easier to find any dropped small bits the next day when you pick the model up again. 2. It helps to keep the other half happy because you're keeping the place so tidy.

I've been making scale models since I was a kid, but focused mainly on military aircraft and sci-fi spacecraft. I didn't really get into modeling armored vehicles until I was in my 20's or so. The jewel of my armor model collection is a mixed platoon of 3 Abrams (Tamiya M1A1, Trumpeter M1A2, and Tamiya USMC M1A1HA) and a Bradley (Tamiya M2A2), all in 1/35th-scale.

Back in the 1980's I would conduct classes with my younger Marines on vehicle recognition, especially the Warsaw Pact examples, and I used model tanks to illustrate the key features of Soviet made AFV's. It proved to be very effective and I dare say that our unit would have had no problem in IFF as well as effectively targeting them. The hobby became a teaching tool.
