"Love and Beauty" was released as a single in September 1967. First track recorded with the mellotron. Justin and John have been with the band nearly a year at this point. Six months prior to this, they stopped trying to do the Denny Laine material exclusively and started writing their own stuff. When this was filmed, their live set was splt into two parts: First part was the old material and the second half was the new Days of Future Passed songs. They were at rock bottom in the Fall of 1967. Decca only kept them on because the band owed the label a debt. "Love and Beauty" failed to chart (as was the case with "Fly Me High" in May 1967). Roughly a month after filiming this video, they would record the classic DoFP album. The rest as they say is history. Like a phoenix rising from the ashes. But global acclaim would still take another 5 years.
Peter , rod clarck and d.laine lefted in october 1966 , Justin &John recruited late this automn, they went to belgium , Mouscron where they had a strong following near around .
@@willyboyw.5771 Clint Warwick left in july 1966 ,being replaced by Rod Clarck UP to october 66 ,then entered John Lodge ..when Clint leaves ,John Entwistle tired of constant fight between Moony and Daltrey ,asked Mike to join ....a Quick one hadn't sold very well too !!
Incredible to see this. John Lodge must have just arrived in the band cause I believe Rod Clark was playing bass when this was recorded. You Tube truly is the gift that keeps on giving. Much appreciation for finding and posting this.
Hi yes man , no it was John on bass , Clark lefted in october 1966 , and "love and & beauty" RECORDED JULY 1967 .John HAD already played with Ray in EL riot & the rebells earlier 1964
Ray looks almost like a 5th wheel in some of these early R&B type songs with no flute. He does backup vocals and gyrates around a bit from a sitting position but doesn't seem to have much of a role onstage. Some agents or bands might have agitated to get him kicked him out but thankfully, I believe the Moodies recognized his value and had a degree of loyalty to each other and Ray stayed. Thankfully they did, where would we be without Legend of a Mind or For My Lady plus the other great songs he wrote? And his distinctive flute playing on Nights in White Satin so many other classics? Five songwriters on one band was one of the reasons the band was so successful.
don't thinck so , Ray was the spokman live , and he had a strong unusual intruments in the 60s harmonica, flutes , and a solid back up voice , in 1968 in france the jurnalists called him the leader always responding to them ,Justin shy ,new member John, Graeme behind his kit and too his old mate ,Mike from hamburg's days, sharing the role sometime but with important job for his new mellotron. A lady from helsinski ( finland) told that live march 1967 , it was Ray the most speaking for the band live .IT WILL LAST UP 1974 !
Ray was so essential to the classic 7 albums through to 1974. Sadly when they reformed with Moraz he didn’t have much of a role seeing as the flute was pretty much totally out of fashion in the 80’s. Some of the later albums barely featured him or not at all. At certain points during their live concerts it was a bit disconcerting to see poor Ray just tapping a tambourine. Celtic Sonant was pretty great though.
Super cool and rare. I think this was done early on right before 1967 Days of Future passed. Let me know if I am right Tony. Could be 1966. Mike is using the melotron they bought cheap that was in the Dunlop tire store? He modified it of course to sound like it did . It is great to see this rare footage, thank you!

@TonyBrown-MoodyBlues Thanks for posting, a wonderful rare Moodies find. BTW :Is the picture quality the original condition of the video as you got it or has it been adjusted to avoid copyright issues?
World Class Acts from late 60s, 70s, & 80s; 1) Moody Blues, 2) ABBA, & 3) Rod Stewart, in that order. Brilliant find!
Tony super find! and a voice over in my native language this is a gem thank you!!
My pleasure!
That's the future Mrs Justin Hayward dancing around him!
Whether she is or not, that's a lovely Sixties outfit she's wearing! Her Mary Jane shoes and knee-high socks blend perfectly!
This was when Just in Hayward and John Lodge joined the band after Denny Laine and Clint Warwick left the band.
Superb find from this fabulous band!!!
This is priceless. Thanks for sharing.
gr8t band/song
Che bella eravamo ragazzi. Grande Mike
this is great! Excellent look back at the real Beginning with Justin and John!thank you❤!
If anything were ever to need digital restoration, this would be it!
Love it , l was looking for since mid 70s !!! Moodies préhistory with Mike Pinder and his
fab mk2 # 134 ,from dunlop..
I'm surprised this and Long Summer Days were not a hit. Wonderful songs.
"Long Summer Days", although recorded in 1967, wasn't released until 1977, and never as a single.
Wow, I've never seen that one!
I have always loved this song by Mike Pinder. Fun seeing them play it. They are so young!
Nice find!! never saw this vid b4
well, THIS is new!!! nice!
My favourite band since the 1970s.
Superb find Tony!
Thanks - had it for a while but having a sort through my files and decided to share it.

What a fun time
Aquí además se aprecia la introducción del melotron por parte de Mike Pinder que daria identidad al grupo durante años a los Moody Blues.

Mike whyd you leave the scene ?
Justin looks really tall? How tall was he?
6'-2"
Yes it is a pity...is there no technology that will eradicate this...also unusual as we see Graeme Edge without a beard!
Justin looks very uptight around that chick. 😂
That's his future wife (now of 50+ years) so I guess he's not uptight!
That's Marie, his girlfriend at the time and now his wife of 53 years
However it sounds like ‘rivers that are sewers’. Talk about prescient.
Too bad someone talked over the beginning.
It's a wonder they stayed together with this crap. It's not like it's the early 60s. Sgt. Peppers is already out.
