I myself would like to swag one of these games someday, but I ask myself, Do I have enough swag to swag myself a cart? And just how much does swag play into it when attempting to swag yourself a cart? We can sit around, swagging all day and night, but is that REALLY enough swag to swag a cart?
N64 Glenn Plant> "That's crazy how he could swag so many!" - *snag ¬_¬ It's only crazy now, i.e., post-TH-cam and post-Internet. Back then, when the collector arena was smaller and the games weren't that old, it was easy because news was limited and they weren't worth as much.
Jealouse is not the right word. If he bought one Game for his Collection yes that is fine but he knew what the Catridge is worth and he hunted the people down because of some greedy Attitude. I am not Jealous i just don‘t like Greedy people who only thinks about them self. He bought the games because he wanted to sell them someday and paid the owner the bar minimum. That is not a true fan it is just a other Greedy person.
Funny I always treated NES like collectibles. I started collecting when I was 5 around 1994. At the end of the NES life cycle. I remember when Sears told me they were going to discontinue NES support and focus on the 16 bit era. I knew by then the NES would become collectables early on.
I actually sold mine recently due to not wanting to start the collection heavily (only had about 4 games for it) Without a doubt, It is becoming crazy hard to collect for with boxed games going for £100's My jaw still drops however every-time I see a big NES collection :D
Daniel Ibbertson I gave up on collecting NES carts actually. Too much money invested in the system. Then I'm also the type of person that actually likes famicom japanese and PAL exclusives, Russian and chinese famicom bootlegs, homebrews and fan rom hacks released onto carts and I would like to have those too. It would be impossible for me to get my dream NES collection. I have it in ROM form. It would be around 1300 games and not to mention the accessories I would like for the NES.
I never understood the worth of this cart to be honest. So he decided to get 10 carts through getting them off people, pretending they weren't worth much? Jason might be the first instance of a video game scalper.
Funny thing, I actually gave Jason/ Dream TR a copy of SNES Star Fox Weekend Competition (I had two) back in the 90s. It was meant to be a trade, but I never figured out what I wanted. Tried to negotiate for an NWC cart, but obviously that didn't work out.
i'm a video game collector too, but i'm not spend 20.000 bucks for NWC 1990 gold cartridge, so i bought a replica that is made from Legend of Zelda 2 cartridge with fake switches for 40 bucks, and you can't tell if it's fake unless you're seeing it in person.
My father in-law always going to yard sales he bought 4 unopened saga dream cast boxes .he didn't know too much about them and there outside getting sunburned.
Your channel is great. Only found you about 5 days ago. Read about this guy years ago but first video I've seen about him. You are easily 100.000 sub + worthy.
The nes was so good back in the day.We had complete games with instruction manuals box art.Now a days we just get a box and a loose disc of a pay to play unfinished game. This is why i play the classic games in 2018
He said officially released game, campus challenge was never officially released, nwc however, was officially released in a Nintendo power giveaway and stadium events was a legitimate game with a box and everything
OK, that makes sense, like how Keio Flying Squadron's the rarest Sega CD game released, while Penn and Teller's is the rarest overall (I actually have Keio Flying Squadron, got it recently for $105).
Yeah if I played against tons of other people and really worked hard I would have held onto it. I could only imagine some parents of the winners just selling it away without having a clue at all...
I’m sure in my teenage or younger years if someone offered me 50 bucks for a crappy nes game i would have taken it. Heck, i sold every nes game i had (about 40) to funcoland for a dollar a piece to buy a few genesis games. Then gave away all my genesis collection to my cousin years ago. There was no way to know this stuff was going to be worth anything
A guy from my church is a construction worker and was helping demo a home and inside a wall was a huge nes collection in boxes. Nobody wanted them so he said he took them home that day. When I asked if he would sell them he told me that it happened two weeks prior and he didn't like games so he threw them away. If he had known I was interested that he would had given them to me. Needless to say the child in me cringed and cried a little bit that night.😥
If I won one of those carts no amount of money would make me hand it over because I think it's very sentimental and something to hand down in the family. I still think it would have been cool if they etched the players names into the back of the cart with their date of birth
Awesome stuff man. Never heard this story. Clever guy he is! Especially considering the time. Good foresight as well. For the sake of the people he bought those carts from, I hope they never found out the current value, that'd hurt!
It makes me sad when I hear about things like this, He went out and ripped people off. I've had experience with scalpers on ebay buying up anything and re-selling it and thats what puts me off even trying to collect games. I'd collect PS1 games but the amount of cracked hinges/covers and 'platinum' copies I've seen makes it a money pit of a collection, No offence to people who do collect. Great Vid DJ Slope!
+GetBant I am the same, nothing wrong with emulation than paying someone on ebay £100's for a game to find out if its any good. With that said if i discover that I really like a retro game I dont already own, I love to own a physical copy just for the sake of it.
+GetBant how is calling someone going would you sell that? ripping people off? they made the offer and took it. It's not like a pawn shop wen tlooking for buy em.
+furydeath Agreed. He obviously went through a lot of work and effort to obtain these cartridges, if not for him, would have most likely been lost forever. And values for games back then were nothing near to what they are now. $50 was probably a bit low though, but if he had counter-offered anything higher, he probably would not have gotten as many, or the sellers might have backed out, holding out for more. I see this now all the time. If someone offers to sell you a game for $50, and you counter with $500, then the seller might say, "if you're willing to pay me $500, then surely you will pay $1000".
+mysticMTL This guy was a predatory buyer, not a hero. He may have saved a few carts from being tossed away, but he also built his entire collection off of the money made from taking advantage of the ignorance of others. He full well knew the real value of what he was getting, but he still went through with practically stealing the games out from under these people (especially that one dude who sold for $50). So what if the sellers would have asked for more money if they knew the full worth? That would have been a fair price for them to be paid.
BenjiMordino There were only 26 Nwc gold carts made. Only 14 known in existence right now. There were thousands of stadium events made and only around 200 known original sales maybe more. This reply has no research behind it.
Retro Remix Nation I'm not sure what you're getting at, I said that NWC carts are rarer. I said In no way, shape or form is Stadium Events rarer, so I think you are in agreement.
BenjiMordino Sorry. I was meaning to reply to to some other comment. Basic collector knowledge tells you nwc gold is the rarest cart. This guy did no research.
+gamesyouloved Massive thanks guys, I was sitting on this idea for ages and knew it wouldn't be worth doing until I found the guy. Cheers for spreading the word
I'll never be able to obtain the legitimate cartridge for the 1990 NWC, but I'm very content with the various repros I have of the game. I also did an instructional video to better player's scores. I might do the same for the 1991 Nintendo Campus Challenge and the 1992 Super Nintendo Campus Challenge.
Wow, this was an amazing video! I've learned quite a lot from this, bro! Well done, great job! I sure as hell wish I had the Nintendo World Championship cartridge for my Nintendo system :D
What a fantastic video! - Great job Daniel! We're going to have a chat about this video and the subject on tonights Nintendpals UK podcast, thanks for the inspiration
Some interesting information in this. Nice editing, by the way. I feel like you have a way better idea of composition and what 'looks good' than I do. I just kind of slap things together and hope for the best, haha.
Went to a garage sale in 2015.. saw a Nintendo game system hidden under the table in the back.. I thought “cool, a game system!” When I opened it I was freaking shocked.. 20 original nes games in the box, all in their original box, all boxes in mint condition... I was stupid, probably should have got them graded or something but I sold the entire lot on eBay for around $2500.00.. I listed them as having mint boxes and none of the buyers ever wrote saying they were otherwise.
An excellent production as always. Personally, given the era it was, I think the guy was pretty clever. A bit sneeky, but clever. It's unlikely that would happen today, not only for the reasons you mention Dan but the backlash he would receive from social media and such like. Still, someone has to have these rare games, and they don't just drop out of the sky. Lastly, I have a claim for one of the rarest games on Earth. Chase HQ2 on the Amstrad GX4000. At one time the rumour was only 2 copies existed, but we only know the location of 1 single boxed complete copy. It's never been dumped to ROM, and it's supposedly a speccy port anyway. One day, Amstrad fans will know all.
The64Master You have 6 minutes and 45 seconds to get as many points as possible. You start in Super Mario Bros, where you need 50 coins to advance. Then you go to Rad Racer, where you complete the first race. Finally, the remaining time is spent in Tetris, where you try to rack up as many points as you can. After the time runs out, your score is tallied. SMB score is x1, Rad Racer score is x5, and Tetris score is x25.
i dont which games are rarer than others. but i would try to buy the games as cheap as i can. for that matter anything i try to buy i try to get as cheap as possible. most people do. but when you have these things and people are trying to buy them from you go find out what they are and how much they are worth. not just video games. but anything you have that someone is trying to buy.
Awesome vid buddy :) loved that. fairplay he used his initiative to grab them. and I would imagine thats how he has founded the rest of his collection. to say im a bit jealous is an understatement lol :)
As ever a great and very well produced video :) The whole concept of the Nintendo World Championship annoys the heck out of me - the one in 1990 and the one just recently, the Americans very loose use of the term 'World', the fact the heats were only in the USA etc and the bloody hype of it all. But don't worry, Sony's new Playstation World Championship are having heat's in Tesco's only so I hear, so all those Americans better start booking their flights to the UK asap!! ;) As for the bloke who bought all the copies up, fair play to him, he was forward thinking and took a punt, it could have been a complete waste of money after all :)
You could say World Championships, because anyone from anywhere in the world could compete, they just had to come to the US to do it. No different than the Olympics where athletes go to another country to compete.
I agree, fucking scalpers piss me off. I'm not against someone trying to get a good deal on a game but, there's a huge difference between trying to get a game cheaper and intentionally seeking someone out lowballing someone on an game that *you* know is worth far more.
There's supposedly a large skid of stadium event that got recalled and sent to the dump. Could you imagine dump diving and finding a pallet full of unopened carts.
4:40 - It's all TH-cam's fault; it's all because of stupid let's-play and retro-game videos driving up the demand for old stuff and sellers taking advantage of that and asking for far more than they're worth. The worst part is that it's no longer just old peers who want stuff from their childhood that we have to compete with, but also damned millennial brats who have no connection with these things and could/should just as easily be happy with digital copies/ROMs instead. 😒
I honestly just want to play earthbound legitimately On a nes Sure I wasn’t born in the nes era, I was born in the wii era but I love retro games and stuff
@@vasili1207 that explains the crappy atari xe ad in 1988 making fun of nes with non impressive features, like the fact it plays both disk and cartridge games (disk drive not included)
Actually we did have the atari but it was like the poor man's computer .... I remeber my cousin had a Vader one all black ? And it was terrible even compared to my first computer a amstrad 464 with a green monitor, then I had a classic Mac I think I was about 8-9 that broke then I got an amiga, my mate had a nes with turtles and we all laughed at him he had 3 games for about a year and a half. Compared to me and my mates thousands of disk games..... We used to get games copied for £1 , but since my father mate used to crack and distribute them I never paid a thing. I got a snes in 1991 so did my fathers mate but he bought a super wild cart Id buy games and he just copy them to floppy disk .... So in a way I paid him back £50 games was a hard sell in the early 90s and especially in the 80's they had no chance
TH-cam and eBay has drove the price of games up. Now every Tom Dick and Harry believes any old game is worth a lot of money. Truthfully how many rare games are even worth owning? Plus Little Samson is worth as much a Stadium Events.
Go to a convention there will be at least 2 there every time..

This just goes to show that gamers are not of this world, they are of a world all there own. Some fantasy world. More money than sense. I would of definitely sold one if I had one. The amount of space he must have to of had to store all that crap, too. It's super weird. OK, I admit I do like playing the odd game now and again (on emulation (mostly,)) I do own a PSP, a Vita and 2 PS2's. But that's it. All my other consoles are emulate either on the PSP or Vita or the PC. I own precisely 3 physical copies of games, the 25,000 are downloaded. Simples.
at least ONE gold cart found its way to mexico, i saw it in flea market back in 1998, it had no label i though it was a pirate Zelda or Zelda 2 because of the weird switches... at least i got to touch it...
My fear is that one day I'm going to get rid of something only to realize a decade or two later that it's worth the equivalent of a god damn house I'm never getting rid of any of my games or consoles but it could happen with just about anything
He is the equivalent to the limited run games scalpers of today.

Very informative and interesting video Dan! Well done mate.
+Oliver Harper Big thanks buddy really appreciate it
+Daniel “Slope's Game Room” Ibbertson Is this cart dumped?
+mariomadproductions Most likely, I don't know in all honesty
Daniel Ibbertson "Nintendo World Championships 1990 (USA)" is on No-Intro, but no others named "Nintendo World Championships"
A lot of jealous haters in the comments. Good for him for thinking to contact these people from Nintendo Power before anyone else did.
or before they threw them away

I know Jason Wilson ,I purchased 2 Grey NWC carts from Jason in Tennesse years ago ..
Actually the rarest game on the NES is Nintendo Campus Challenge 1991. Only one copy exists to my knowledge.
That guy owns/owned it lol
He said officially released game, campus challenge was never officially released, nwc however, was officially released in a Nintendo power giveaway and stadium events was a legitimate game with a box and everything
But out of all games on the nes, campus challenge is the rarest by far, only 1 copy exists
OK, that makes sense, like how Keio Flying Squadron's the rarest Sega CD game released, while Penn and Teller's is the rarest overall (I actually have Keio Flying Squadron, got it recently for $105).
Excellent video dude! The nostalgia made me dribble!

+Luke's Game Page Yeah crazy collection, nice guy too
I didnt think the gray and gold carts had a box.... so how is it a CIB collection?
What are you going to do with a complete sealed collection? You can't enjoy it :(
C.I.B doesn't mean sealed, just complete with box, manual and cart along with any other extra stuff certain games came with.
A guy from my church is a construction worker and was helping demo a home and inside a wall was a huge nes collection in boxes. Nobody wanted them so he said he took them home that day. Daniel Ibbertson still its a crazy stroy about this game.
Imagine being the poor $50 sod watching this video now. Your day would be off to a real bad start.
+Villordsutch Yeah, that can't be to much fun lol
very interesting and informative video bro!!
+RanDomNadeZ Gaming Massive thanks mate :D
Can somebody tell me what is even n that cartridge?
The64Master You have 6 minutes and 45 seconds to get as many points as possible.
You start in Super Mario Bros, where you need 50 coins to advance.
Then you go to Rad Racer, where you complete the first race.
Finally, the remaining time is spent in Tetris, where you try to rack up as many points as you can.
After the time runs out, your score is tallied. SMB score is x1, Rad Racer score is x5, and Tetris score is x25.
Does he have Hong Kong 97?
i dont which games are rarer than others. but i would try to buy the games as cheap as i can. for that matter anything i try to buy i try to get as cheap as possible. most people do. but when you have these things and people are trying to buy them from you go find out what they are and how much they are worth. not just video games. but anything you have that someone is trying to buy.
Awesome vid buddy :) loved that. fairplay he used his initiative to grab them. and I would imagine thats how he has founded the rest of his collection. to say im a bit jealous is an understatement lol :)
yeah he seems like a nice guy during the interview. very clever indeed
"Seems like a nice guy"
Yeah, that's what someone else thought when they got $50 for an item with the value equivalent to a 4 year college loan.
sounds like a conman to me
This makes me wanna cry
As ever a great and very well produced video :)
The whole concept of the Nintendo World Championship annoys the heck out of me - the one in 1990 and the one just recently, the Americans very loose use of the term 'World', the fact the heats were only in the USA etc and the bloody hype of it all.
But don't worry, Sony's new Playstation World Championship are having heat's in Tesco's only so I hear, so all those Americans better start booking their flights to the UK asap!! ;)
As for the bloke who bought all the copies up, fair play to him, he was forward thinking and took a punt, it could have been a complete waste of money after all :)
+Keith 'The Fat Gamer' Last He did bloody well, like you said, it could had been a waste, thankfully for him it wasnt
Doesn't the Blockbuster cart from the mid-90s go for quite a bit?
You could say World Championships, because anyone from anywhere in the world could compete, they just had to come to the US to do it. No different than the Olympics where athletes go to another country to compete.
Awesome video! And a great story! If only I had a shiny time machine car with a flux capacitor and some time circuits in! :-)
+GRUSS Newton lol Don't we all, Just think if you you had a few of these you could pretty much buy a Deloreon brand new!
Ha that's good shit, dude knows how to play the game.
+AKatem1 damn right
I hate cheap ass hunter collectors than go around trying to rip people off
I agree, fucking scalpers piss me off.
I'm not against someone trying to get a good deal on a game but, there's a huge difference between trying to get a game cheaper and intentionally seeking someone out lowballing someone on an game that *you* know is worth far more.
Couldn't someone make and sell fake copies of that cart
arran miller yes
They do but they don't get the board and chips exact you can open it and tell
There's supposedly a large skid of stadium event that got recalled and sent to the dump. Could you imagine dump diving and finding a pallet full of unopened carts.
Next time Nintendo has a championship, we'll be prepared, lol
+EpicSwagger There was one last year!!! Quick go buy Nintendo Power.... o wait
+Daniel “Slope's Game Room” Ibbertson Lol RIP Nintendo Power
I actually bought my Neo Geo 6 slot from this guy....
Yeah in 1997, I probably would have the done the $50 especially for a game I got for free.
is this avgn?
Sunny - Someone Named Sunny looks like his basement, but that's James Rolf
4:40 - It's all TH-cam's fault; it's all because of stupid let's-play and retro-game videos driving up the demand for old stuff and sellers taking advantage of that and asking for far more than they're worth. The worst part is that it's no longer just old peers who want stuff from their childhood that we have to compete with, but also damned millennial brats who have no connection with these things and could/should just as easily be happy with digital copies/ROMs instead. 😒
I honestly just want to play earthbound legitimately
On a nes
Sure I wasn’t born in the nes era, I was born in the wii era but I love retro games and stuff
I know that it's pretty shitty that he rigged those people but he is a savage
What's a nes ..... In the uk it was a toy compared to the Amiga .
You are comparing a Console to a Home Computer though?!
Because that what we used as a games machine in 80s in the UK I don't think we got the concept really until the snes
I agree with you.
So in a way I paid him back
£50 games was a hard sell in the early 90s and especially in the 80's they had no chance
cool story bro
Video starts at 4:30
TH-cam and eBay has drove the price of games up. Now every Tom Dick and Harry believes any old game is worth a lot of money. Truthfully how many rare games are even worth owning? Plus Little Samson is worth as much a Stadium Events.
just wow.
NO! Evan if it was one!
0:14 inb4 you get sued by THX
stadium events isn't even that hard to find
Simples.
at least ONE gold cart found its way to mexico, i saw it in flea market back in 1998, it had no label i though it was a pirate Zelda or Zelda 2 because of the weird switches... at least i got to touch it...
hhhhh great great video thank you for all this info important :D
+Final Boss Games Thanks for commenting buddy :D
My fear is that one day I'm going to get rid of something only to realize a decade or two later that it's worth the equivalent of a god damn house
I'm never getting rid of any of my games or consoles but it could happen with just about anything
just uploaded a video. we sold our nwc1990 copy for 42K
Half of the gold cartridges have been destroyed, half of the other half whereabouts are still unknown.
