- Akira has quickly become one of my favourite films and there's so much to talk about regarding it's contents, so I thought I'd give this a go. This took me a very long time to edit, I really hope you enjoy it. Remember, it's not an entirely serious video essay, there are some goofs and gaffs. I had a lot of fun with the whole thing!

I'm 2 mins in to this essay and although this is now a two year old video I just heard something very refreshing. Moondays big ups my friend! :D for knowing the difference between a synopsis (as you put it recap) and an essay (or for that matter retrospective), so many times I've seen what claims to be an essay (reptrospective, deepdive etc) and is literally just a summary of plot. Don't get me wrong here I'll watch the recap bit interested to see what jumps out to you as important enough to recap, just really nice to see there's more than just being told the plot of a film I've seen...again haha.

So when I watched, & later read Akira I was addicted to painkillers, & I related heavily to Tetsuo. At the time I thought it was cool, & he was like my anime avatar. I still relate to Tetsuo, but I'm coming on two years sober off pills & I still feel he my anime avatar, but now I feel sad for him.
