Shoes off, logical and rational.
I think that if someone invites you into their home then that shows they care about you and if you remove your shoes then you show that you care about them!
Unless you have smelly feet.🤣
This country gal has always removed her boots on the porch. Half the time they’re mud boots with something way worse than mud on them.
Also, keeping species separated is how to prevent cross contamination and keep viruses from jumping species.
But I’m constantly surprised by how many grown folks refuse to recognize the risk of spreading diseases.
In 1970 my family lived in the Tokyo area for a year. Upon returning to the US, taking shoes off before entering our home became the norm. When I eventually established my own home the no shoes indoors rule continued. It is also house policy with my own adult kids in their homes! Wearing medical masks in public for health reasons has also been a long standing practice in Japan. They are way ahead of the US in many practical ways!
in japan i loved the rule on slipper etiquette especially in restaurants bathrooms and ryokan spas. its the way to preserve cleanliness and i can relax so much. back in the day people HAD to wear shoes. i notice americans dont clean the floor no sweeping OR mopping. i prefer socks or slippers in american homes but slippers in japan were super clean and. floors are cleaned everywhere! i love japan! makes so much sense!
If someone comes into my home or space, I expect my guests to respect my way of living there. I would do the same as their guest. It's common curtesy and manners in my opinion.
I always find it funny when people want shoes off but the dogs can jump on the bed and couch 😂😂😂😂
This is interesting. In much of the Pacific Northwest and ALL of Alaska it's shoes off. It's nothing to do with hospitality here in Alaska. It's culture.
Spending perhaps a third of my life in SE Asia / Japan I am strictly shoes off.
As a person who has always lived in large cities I am shoes off.
As a person who worked in biomedical I am a shoes off.
There are many habits that I have acquired living abroad and one of them was the shoes but another was designated cleaning accoutrement. I have a certain mop and certain sponges and even a different bucket for the bathroom then one would have for the kitchen or other areas. I absolutely cringe if I see someone cleaning with the same mop in both those areas!
Shoes off!
Wearing shoes in the house is DISGUSTING
Yes shoes off 👟
In Sweden, we always take our shoes off! City, countryside, anywhere!
It’s strange, grew up in the suburbs always shoes off. That meant coming in thru the garage & removing them out there. Moved to the country & you’re right, shoes on for guests. I still wear slippers in the house
For my mother, it was shoes off. To this day, I feel guilt if I pop back into the house and not take of my shoes. I can only hope the 30 second rule applies here. :)
Shoes off, house shoes on. 😉
For many of my friends it is customary to take off your shoes in their culture. This is something that I have been doing since first grade. My parents taught me to respect and understand that people are different from one another and respectfulness is key.
I think it's common sense. Are you going to wear your poop boots in the house from the barn ???? There are all kinds of crap on your shoes I don't want it in my house. I have slippers by the door. SHOES OFF!!
Off, off in my house ❤
Lol what a snowflake being offended because they are asked to take off their shoes going into someone else's house. Their house, their rules.
I live in the country and I take my shoes off when walking through the house. I do not ask my guests to remove their shoes unless they are muddy or wet. After all, I do the house cleaning and don’t want to spend my time washing floors after dirty feet.
It is not just hygiene. Wearing shoes in the house is not comfortable!!
I want my feet to be free of confinement.
The lady said manure and her dog rolling on a dead animal. Then proceeds to walk with her shoes on in her house. 🤮
I feel more comfortable walking barefoot. I walk better barefoot.
Country is as country gets . Most of the time, boots are staying on. Unless I’m planning to be inside for extended periods, then they come of for comfort reasons.
My living spaces have always been hardwood or tiled floors though.
I do understand not wanting to wear shoes/boots in a carpeted house. Carpets are just gross to begin with.....
people that make me take off my shoes, always keep their homes too cold.
Always shoes off in my and others house
Not everyone finds it easy to remove and replace their shoes while standing on one foot, especially if they're not slip-ons. Shoe covers are acceptable if they're available. Where I grew up in the US suburbs, we never removed our shoes before entering unless our shoes were muddy.
What if host requests to remove your shoes BUT their floors are filthy!?
Since I lived in Asia I always take my shoes off (and do housecalls for a living so also I don't want to spread any diseases too for animals I see).
Shoes on. Clothes definitely off!!!!
Shoes off forever
Not wearing shoes indoors is a relatively new modern living thing in the west. I am familiar with the Japanese tradition of removing outer wear before walking on tatami mats, which were used in traditional construction.
Take em off!
I used to not care until I got tired of mopping the floot. Shoes off from here on.
Put a big sign on your front door telling people that they're not allowed in unless they take their shoes off. That will solve the problem.😆
Shoes off at entry lol
Lived in asia
But here in New Zealand and hanging on farms
Most farms shoes off
Why bring outside dirt inside, when it's so easy to take off your shoes? And slippers or socks are far more comfortable than shoes. Ask Amy Dickinson needs to rethink her uptight attitudes.
As a person who has done the box of booties at the door, they just put the booties over their shoes. My home is a lot cleaner. Also. I still run my steamer over the floors! You do track filth from the street, into your home!
As a European I've never understood the American culture of having shoes not just indoors, but many times on the couch as well! It's just disgusting and so unclean to have shoes on indoors!
Another thing about US and A I've never understood is the tipping culture... why should the customer pay the salary of the staff?! In pretty much most of the world the employer pays salary to his staff and not the customers!
And last but not least, the unpaid internships is not something that I would associate with US and A... but more eastern Europe, some parts of Asia and Middle East... but no! Unpaid internships are as American as apple pie!
I just don't get it... just like I don't get the unpaid overtime in Japan even though it's the law in Japan that overtime is paid worktime!
As a European? Do you go to Italy or Spain much? Cuz I don't see a lot of shoe removal there. Not much in the UK either.
@@Tim_ra Yes, I've been to both these countries and I don't recognize that at all.
@@kifkroker6483 My grandparents are Italians. They've never once asked me to remove my shoes when I've entered their house. And they're wearing shoes too. And they live in Turin. I will say their house is also a business but I don't think that matters that much. No one anywhere in the city has asked me to remove my shoes.
@@Tim_ra That's not the Italy I know!
Slippers make sense - I don't want someone taking off their shoes and walking on my carpet with sweaty feet. On the other hand, in England no one asks you to remove your shoes in a noble family's country house while a weekend guest. 🤷♂️
If things are messy after hunting, one uses the mud room.
In the UK the middle-upper and upper classes don't remove their shoes, nor ask their guests to. If you've been on a walk in wellies or have muddy shoes, then yes take them off and put on other shoes, but it's seen as extremely rude and a bit lower class to just wander around the house minus shoes or ask guests to. Whenever I've been asked to, it's always been at someone's house who's trying to socially ascend or appear to be.
I would wear booties. I do not like taking my shoes off @ the door when I enter a person's home. I understand there are some cultural reasons for removing your shoes and health reasons, but I choose not to. In my home my shoes come off @ the door, but I'm @ home where I am also going to change my clothes too!
Asian rules! Your house your rules? Two theories here!
We value are floors because there really expensive to replace
Shoes off is fine, but you better provide slippers.
House shoes/slippers are pretty lame. Just wear socks.
@@keyefaddis7897 I'm not dirtying up my socks a someone else's dirty floors! Plus, ever wear socks in a basement? In winter?
@@mmmbbq Huh? If everyone is not wearing shoes inside the floors wont be dirty. Also what's a basement have to do with anything? Basements can be many things, finished/unfinished so I think that would factor into wearing or not wearing shoes.
@@mmmbbqso take your socks off too
For guests I don't care, do whatever you want. Don't expect people working in your home to remove their shoes. It's dangerous and painful. Also inconvenient when we need to go in and out for whatever reason.
no problem ..just have a shoe spoon handy ....maybe one of those long ones !
Shoes off or shoe booties.
Never gonna happen, but it would be awesome if hotel guests did this. I would love to be able to feel comfortable enough to walk around my hotel room barefoot. But who knows how often they clean the floors.
Lol. I’ve gone barefoot in the lobby before.
I understand the logic. However, would an exception be permitted for people who cannot easily, or at all, walk without shoes having orthopedic support? BTW I fall into that category.
Slippers can be provided.
@@Bootstataboots speaking only for my situation, I require custom orthotic inserts. They must properly into certain types of footwear ie very structured shoes. Sandals and slippers aren’t in this category.
@@gwenniegirl50 Understandable, people do make accommodations. When there are situations such as this I just allow the person to come in with their shoes and I mop up later. The shoes off is not necessarily an inflexible rule. People work around situations. If workers need to fix something in my home such as a leak etc. I don't ask them to take their shoes off. I just mop up afterwards.
So, being asked to remove your shoes in someone else's home makes you feel like the hosts values their floors more than they value your company? SERIOUSLY?? Lady, get over yourself. 🙄🙄
In the boating world it's shoes off because of the floors
I miss Mo Rocca's podcasts!
I must know alot of shoes on people. 🤷🏼♀️
👞👟👠👡👢
It’s not just Asian countries, many European countries are also shoes off.
Why wear shoes were you don’t need them?
This whole episode is a recent report
Thought I was going crazy.
Must be the writers strike. 😮
This is a reupload
100% shoes off
What if the house with shoes off rule is just a dirty house? You risk your socks will be taking the nasty dirt from this house to yours?
Then take the socks off when you get home and launder them....
what about the germs in my shoes??@@Bootstataboots
Indians around the world are shouting " shoes off " please, betiya take off shoes!
Why.... because if you leave shoes on inside, youre an animal
No, you're bringing in GERMS with your shoes!!!! What and where have you walked with your shoes: The hospital, vet clinic, streets that have defecation on them, etc., etc., etc.!!!
Animals don't wear shoes. 😂
@@AAA-tk8skThen you better make your guests sanitize their hands the minute they walk in your door, and then you better sanitize the door knob that they touched. Wait.... don't let them sit on the couch because you don't know where else they sat that day!! 🙄
@@jenniferhansen3622 Gee, I and my friends do NOT sit in or handle sh__. I guess you and your friends do!!🤣🤣😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂 However, I do know the possibility of stepping in it WITH YOUR SHOES!!!
@@AAA-tk8sk Most people are bright enough to watch where they step.😌

Asian or non Asian
When someone insists I take my shoes off before entering their house I'm always happy to turn around and walk away.
Entitled
I think it’s absolutely absurd to require adult humans to take their shoes off when they visit you.
Ah, the ethnocentric Karen defense. Most of the planet think it's absurd to track trace amounts of fecal matter and god knows what inside someone else's house.
I agree.
Harder question. Shoes on or off in a house where the owner has a dog?
Was this all a rerun this week??
