- Edit: Wire nuts aren't long term. Solder them for reliability. Also, I looked for a replacement part at the time and couldn't find it so did this; however, a cheap replacement ignition part exists, so if that's the issue, replace it. If you want to have some fun troubleshooting and jerry rigging (is that PC still?), then check it out. Take it or leave it.

i have a 1997 grand cherokee trying to take the cover under the steering wheel off got one torx screw out and the other 2 are like 2 inches up in the hole cant hardly see them but a torx socket is to big to go through the holes i tried a small phillips and didnt work how do you get that bottom cover no video shows how
have to check ignition wires no power to the i already installed a new coil and crank censor
Is there a way to get a standard key for my misplaced ignition key for jeep grand Cherokee, instead of paying for 127 for key and havi g it tow to dealer and another 50 or 60 bucks to program the damn thing??

I’m no electrical engineer but...dude unhook your battery’s ground terminal not the positive or both. But ground terminal first.
Can you show how you bypassed the clutch safty switch
I lost my key to my 2002 ford f350 and the key to my 2005 ford f-250 so I'm trying to find a way to get them started without having to buy a new key so Is this possible to do with a early 2000 ford f-150, f250-f350 or a late 1990 model ford f150, f250-f350 and then use a flat head screw driver to start the vehicle or just an old Ford non microchip key ?
so based on your theory i can find that bypass switch position park auto trans.. then it takes away the diagnostic code communication
What year is your jeep? I have a 4 cylinder rwd 5 speed Cherokee also but mines a 1998 and I’ve got gauges instead of lights.
It's a 1998 also. Not sure on the exact model number

michael posey. drill or pull the steering column cover apart and poke around. GM has a little button you press in when you take the steering wheel off to pop the cylinder.

Sadly you could have just jumped the two relay terminals and the engine will crank

All you had to do was replace the ignition switch $24 at any auto store, and a couple of safety torque screws to take the old one out, quite a waist of time
I guess or buy a auto switch and figure that out or run a wire thru the firewall and don't use the clutch bypass. Either way you do it, know the risk and at the end of the day learn something.

That's called a starter switch not a ignition switch
