I have this Stuka kit in my stash since the seventies and never had the nerve to start with it. Last year I opened the box and found out that the largest clear part of the cockpitcover did not survive the years. Luckily Airfix took it in production again last year so I had the chance to replace it . A few months ago I ordered the same upgrade set for the kit. You can imagine how eager I am to follow your build on TH-cam. And now I finally heard what the "oxygen-things" are for. 😊

You were lucky, Airfix don't have any now.

@@NigelsModellingBench The part which was broken was exactly the same as yours. Otherwise I would have sent it to you. Curious about how you are going to fix the damage.

Hi Nigel.. I watched this last night and you mentioned the cost of the kit, and these after market parts. Thinking this morning and IMHO it's a matter of priorities.
My late parents sometimes had people have a go about them having two holidays a year alleging 'you must be rolling in it!' Their reply was simple 'Do you drink, smoke, new car in the drive? Neither of us smoke, drink occasionally, never had a new car.' [Dad's first new car was after he retired] The £200 odd that you spent on the Stuka inc. after-market parts is probably what someone who smokes and/or drinks heavily spends - depending how much they smoke/drink - in a month on alcohol/cigarettes [a carer once told me he spent £1000 in one night (??) on drink. OK that's including buying rounds, but even so when I was working that was my entire monthly take home pay!]. The difference is after building the Stuka - or any model - you can look at it with pride and a sense of achievement and think 'I did that!' All someone who drinks or smokes has is a pile of empty bottles / cigarette packets.
That may sound judgmental but as I said in the first line, IMHO it's all about priorities.

Thanx much, Nigel, for the heads-up on the release of this magnificent Airscale upgrade set! A complete surprise, but long-awaited by me.
To me, Airfix has still by far the best Ju-87B on the market. But, this upgrade definitely will make a visible difference.

    Dear Nigel,
These upgrades are outstanding. Particularly the instrument panel!
    (Excellent video by the way!)

The use of 3d printing for resin parts makes them much more scalable and repeatable. The moulds won’t wear out as there are none. The hollow printing technique allows amazing detail. Combined with photoetch this is an amazing technology. I don’t see 3d printing replacing injection moulding for the basic kit (then again I didn’t think the iPod would be that popular 😀). The detail a good designer can get into these 3d parts is astounding … I can see it completely replacing cast resin for most after market vendors.

I've literally closed the fuselage up on my build yesterday using all Peter's upgrades. The radios are an awesome addition and I've used his IP upgrades for years now. I had the first set h produced of the Pro upgrade and the magazine holders were too large to allow the fuselage halves to close properly but Peter's adjusted that now and they fit perfectly. Watch the seat plinth, it runs the opposite way on the real aircraft, that is crosswise instead of longitudinally across the fuselage. I'm comparing it with my original 1975 build which I still have (God knows how) on Britmodeller if you want to see my pitfalls. Enjoy Nige!

That's good value. 50 Years, yikes. That was my one and only commissioned build in the 70's not long after it was 1st released. It hung in the DIY/Model shop for a few years. IIRC my first use of an airbrush, powered by a car tyre 🙂 I had the Spitfire, Bf109 and later the Mustang.

Wow, I shudder to think how much that all cost but it's very tempting. The "radio" is (I think) the gizmo that automated the pull out of the dive on the assumption that the pilot would not be fully capable, due to the excessive G load. This was in the days before inflating "turning trousers" as now used by fast jet pilots to keep the blood out of the legs and the pilot awake.
    Woof to Jess.

Hi, again, Nigel, It's hard to keep-up with all your videos, you're on fire...😊. Great quality stuff from Airscale, I'm going to visit their website, who knows, perhaps I need something and I don't even know it. I love the idea of turning an old, affordable kit into a jewel (no pressure), it's going to be great to watch👍🏻. I hope Jess is okay, good continuation.👋🏻

In the words of a famous modelling TH-camr, "its really really nice" lol. I have been thinking of getting the Airfix re-release of their 1/24 Mustang, when it comes out. Reason being that it is priced at a more reasonable price compared to this Stuka and the god awful Harrier that they re-released. Looked at Airscale's web site, and they do have sets for the 1/24 Mustang. So, I may get them in the future. Great review video as always.
