@Allyn Howell Pretty amazing huh? Especially considering that in 1970. the highest HP rated factory engine was the LS6 454 Chevy. And contrary to what you may believe, the weakness of the Boss 429 was the lack of torque. Google the 10 fastest cars of American muscle engines.

    • @steveminer8341

Haven't really watched one of your in depth reviews lately, but gotta say nothing is really all that different and I like that! You show us the car, you explain the features, you dont try to give it an out of 10 score or anything, you just show us what its got.

    • @Revima
      @Revima 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I also must assume as "car shows" and "reviewers" go, I'm not surprised if you can get hold of some very exciting and interesting cars because you simply dont criticize them, which some would say is a deficiency of your show, but I personally think that its quite nice because you aren't praising it either. Equal opportunity i guess.

There was a MOPAR junk yard outside of Springfield, MO (the town was west of Springfield) in the early 90's that had a real king cobra it was white. He also had a original Sox & Martin 70 Cuda pro-stock car that was COMPLETE. The original hemi was setting on a couple of tires next to the car however, there was a real hemi in the car as well. This guy had a LOT of original MOPAR stuff in this garage. I will never forget the King Cobra or that pro-stock car. I worked for Safety Kleen Corp as a service rep and got the complete tour of all of his unique stuff that he had.

@@turttell2736 I've seen plenty of LS6's lose to a 69 or 70 Torino with 'just' the CJ motor, and NHRA saw more loses to the SCJ versions. Why do you think the rules are now set so that the 385 series BBF are barred from competing while rats and elephants aren't. The 429/429 Boss/460 385 series motors are JUST SO out of the bore spacing, cam to crank distance, and a few other specs. It is called buyout to kill off the to often winners. Same reason France Sr. and the NHRA feared the 427 SOHC so much. I ran a 8-71 on a Cammer in a ^* Torino GT fastback on both track and street in the late 80's/early 90's, never lost to a blown LS6 once with an 'ancient' FE.

It had the same wheels and was a dark green color. RIP, Summer of 85, crashed into bridge rail to avoid hitting another car.

Lived in Albuquerque for 5 years.had an emission testing station and a small used car lot on old route 66.We bought a 70 429 torino 4speed car from a guy leaving town. Went through the car, brakes suspension, tune up had an original 110,000 on the clock or close . This was in 1988.The previous owner ordered it with 3.12 gears for those wide open spaces. You could get 55 in first. Took this thing out 40 going south and let it loose. Long, long Legs passed like 130 and it was all over the place. Started to come up on some guys ass well over a hundred. Hit the brakes to slow down and there was none. They were there but wouldn't hook up till 80 discs in front also. Blew rite by the guy I was trying to slow up for scared the shit out of me.. Took it back to the shop and never drove it again. Mopar had to do the Daytona and Superbird because the Charger 500 wouldn't beat the Taledega and Cyclone Spoiler II. In 70' Ford was just about ready to bail out of factory racing support due to the Feds and other issues.

    • @triangleofdeath6246

Yep, the standard charger and the 500 had a nasty tendency to spin out at high speed due to that air dam of a front grille. Just tacking on that nose gave the car a .28 drag coefficient. Quite slippery even by modern standards.

There was more to the design of the winged Mopar cars than simply being "more aerodynamic". The tall wing on the back played an equally important role in the high banked turns on the super speedways. The deep ( front to back ), blade-shaped vertical side of each wing came into play whenever the rear of the car would get loose in the turns, where the vertical side would catch air & literally push the rear of the car back in line with the front, resulting in superior tracking while going through and exiting the turns. Due to this, I believe the wing actually gave the car more of an advantage than the rest of the body did for aerodynamics. It was so effective that NASCAR made the winged cars illegal, declaring they had "an unfair advantage".

@@bwtv147 SIGH...........Good grief man.........ANYONE who knows anything about these cars during this era (and I was there, by the way ) already knows that. Besides, I was not discussing the Ford's.........I was clearly zeroing in on the wing of the Mopar's, and particularly: how THE VERTICAL SECTION on each side of the wing, is what created the real magic when going through the turns. The vertical sides actually gave more of an advantage than the top, horizontal part of the wing did. And WHY did I bring up the vertical sides of the Mopar wing? BECAUSE NOT MANY PEOPLE KNOW THAT FACT. BUT EVERYONE KNOWS "THE FORD AERO CARS & THE WINGED MOPARS WERE OUTLAWED IN NASCAR". I bet you weren't even alive back when all of this was happening.......because it's always young kids who are trying to tell someone something that everyone should already damn well know.

Kyle, I have a suggestion. I just saw your 2013 M5 video, and I felt that you should also list what features each variant gets. For example, you should say what all the standard 5-Series gets (I know that there are optional extras and the 530D gets more than the 520D) compared to an M5. Since you 'review' the cars, I feel this is a very vital point. A person who considering a car should know about all the standard kit that each trim offers. I know that they can just Google it, but I feel doing this would really enhance the quality of your videos. Also, I don't think it'd require a lot of research and time. Keep the videos coming! Love 'em!

Thanks Krunal! That is one of my older videos, but even today, if I'm talking about a high performance variant, like an M5, I keep it limited to that variant. Otherwise, the videos get pretty long winded. I do talk trim levels in some of my newer videos, like the toyota highlander because I think it is vital information. I'm assuming people aren't coming to an M5 video to learn about lesser trims, whereas the highlander, I assume people would. I hope that makes sense :)

The one featured in this video doesn't have the factory in-dash ribbon-style tachometer like the yellow one does that I've seen in 2 other videos. I wonder why? Still a beautiful & priceless piece of auto racing history. During testing at Daytona, Bill France declared these cars illegal, so they never entered a single NASCAR race. They were made to compete against the winged Mopar cars.

The Boss's put in street cars were heavily damped. Small exhaust, TINY carb and a lousy intake manifold. Let it breathe and give it fuel it DID run like a raped ape. I don't know the HP figures on the racing versions, but they were definitely bad ass. Chrysler AGAIN managed to get a Ford product outlawed from competing. Reason? They'da got their asses stomped. But that was the way they played the game back in the day. Ford had some WEIRD stuff. The SOHC 427? Look at photos of that monster. No wonder they couldn't put it in a car, it was 5 feet wide. An EIGHT FOOT timing chain. But in boat racing it was unbeatable. And from what I read you had to be a magician to get it tuned right. But once done it HAD no competition. And I have no idea of the reliability of the cammer. The mid to late 60s were the heyday of hot rodding by the factories. Those were the days. Mileage and clean air put an end to the GREATEST era.

Tom Swinburn; From what I understand, Bill France, Pres of NASCAR, changed the rules (again) in 1969 demanding 2,000 of these cars to be sold to the public. Up from 500 the previous years. Plymouth went all in with the 1970 "Super Bird" to get Richard Petty back. Rumor is this is what hurt Chrysler in a couple of years do to BIG$$$$$ invested into converting these cars. Ford wound up using the 1970 2 door, standard Torino as it was more aero than the "Sport Roof". Thing is, Bill France has always been a Chevy fan.

@@cobracharmer6178 A double reply here... In 70 Ford ran the regular Cobra's on the short tracks and the 69 Talladega's/Spoiler II's on the super speedways. Several independent teams ran the notch back's to a fairly good showing on all tracks.
The Cammer WAS a monster, and a p.i.t.a. to get set up right! I ran one for years in the late 80's/early 90's in a 68 GT fastback Torino with an 8-71 on alcohol and it not only out ran most anything it was HYPER dependable and tough, only thing to really watch was to change that damn 6' timing chain on a regular basis or it would stretch bad and the right bank wound up 6 degrees off and the left 12 degrees. Given the time I would build a modern parts version and another pro-strip 68 and run my past allover again today.
The 427 SOHC, banned by NASCAR and feared by Chevy and Mopar drag racers everywhere in the hands of people like me on up to Connie Killota, Don Prudhomme, “Ohio George” Montgomery, and especially Sneaky Pete Robinson.
