    best video on Etoro in TH-cam period :) perhaps you should change your title to me more general like "a beginner's guide to trade on Etoro" or something of the kind. coz your video is not only about leverage, it's basically a great concise intro to the platform! many other videos saying "beginner's guide" are not giving half of the info a beginner needs! anyway well done and cheers for more views and subscribers! you deserve it, at least in my humble opinion :)

    Word of advice for etoro newbies:
    Every investment choice should be made based on the risk involved for the individual, their investment goals and strategies. What is right for one investor may not be for another like in the case of Copy Trading. Keep these basic differences and similarities in mind as you research your investments. Money is hard to lose these pandemic times.

    • @SocialTrading
      @SocialTrading  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey there! That's a really big question, and it's what so many people are trying to figure out... Myself included! I think it all seems to depend on how much risk individuals are willing to take. No matter what your risk appetite, there's an asset out there which will match it...
      A lot of the real heavyweights in investing seem to go for bonds, or long term blue chip companies with solid dividends... Others go for the tech companies - the 'growth' stocks which they see as becoming ever more dominant over time.
      Some people use precious metals or cryptos as hedges, and within cryptos, there's now a booming NFT market, and Decentralised finance is seen by many as an alternative to the current system... There's just so much to potentially invest in that I wouldn't know where to start in answering that really :)
      Then there's the housing markets, or actually buying physical land, including farmland (which is what some of the biggest investors in the world seem to be doing...). I'm trying a bit of everything and seeing what works and what I'm comfortable with, but since funds are limited, I invest in some more than others :)

    Great explanation!
    However, this amplifies my concerns related to trading with leverage, especially on eToro. Their default trading, whenever I want to open a trade, is set on X5 leverage, which for an inexperienced trader would easily fool you into thinking you are simply buying the real stock without even knowing there is a leverage behind and you could lose your money so much faster. I believe eToro set X5 leverage on default as on this makes them the most money out of inexperienced traders. Anyone else experienced this?

    I’m still kind of confused. So do you have to pay a monthly fee if you use leverage or can you use leverage at no cost what so ever

    • @SocialTrading
      @SocialTrading  ปีที่แล้ว

      there are these little fees called overnight and weekend fees when you're using leverage. When you open the trade, it'll show you at the bottom how much the overnight and weekend fees will be before you start the trade. There's no 1-off monthly fee or anything, it's just a small fee daily for as long as you hold the trade open.

    Hey! I have a question. If i buy an eft like the (VIT) or (VOO) with 1x leverage, i still get the cfd symbol. But it’s still says its no fees in weekends or normal days. But does that mean i buy the etf with the same consept as i own it myself, and get the same profits like i would without it beeing bought as a cfd? Cus i have no leverage, so why is it still bought like an dfc?
    And another question. Can i hold an cfd for as long as i want? I want to buy an eft with 1x leverage. And i know there is no limit on the hold time on index or mutual founds or eft’s that are bought in your name. But i dont know when it get bought like a cfd…

    The only thing that sucks about leverage trading especially if you set a shallow stop loss is during high volume and volatility you can get stopped out of a 30% winning long. Ive had trade that had 3k in profit get stopped out when mark price dropped under my stop loss for 1 min b4 it rocketed up to what would have been a 50% take profit mark with 6k profit. AHHHHHH! Lesson learned. Now I utilize trailing stop loss when available. So far so good. I will know at the end of the year when I crunch numbers and see if it has been efficient or not. Quite possibly I could be just slowly chipping away at overall gains try to prevent a few rare occurrences. Lol

    Hello I have this question. ¿Does ETORO take the leverage on your operation for your total leverage? I mean, if you have a trade of 100 and you use X5; the total amount of your position will be 500? And in that case, if you have an account of 2000 USD, ETORO take that position as 20% of you total account? So you won´t be able to become popular investor? Thanks in advance for your response.

    • @SocialTrading
      @SocialTrading  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a really really good question, and to be honest, I'm not sure! You'd still have $1900 in your account though, so I'm not sure how the system would reconcile the maths there. How would it be able to say you've used 25% of your account on 1 trade, yet still have 95% of your account left in your available balance... I'd ask eToro directly, but I have a feeling the 95% of your account left as available balance would be the most important stat there.

    Great explanation. So, hypothetically i invest 100 dolars in amazon using 5x leverage. Now, lets say the price moves down by 20% and i loose not 20 but the full amount. What happens next because technically you are down to zero. What if the price will go another 3%(so 23% which means that i am down more than 100 ). What happens in this case? Will the trade close automatically once you down to zero? Because if that's the case, then with 5x leverage you loose everything once the price is 20% or lower. In other words even if you want to keep the trade open, it closes automatically if hits -20%

      th-cam.com/video/DiyrklP6ekM/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=SocialTradingVlog
      And this one's about what happens if the gap down is so severe we stand to lose more than the money we added to our account:

    When you say that many people wipe out their accounts by using leverage, do they only lose their funds or do they have to also pay back the extra that they lost?

  • @Highbeams100
    @Highbeams100 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Maybe a stupid question, but I am new to investing. If you’re using the copy trader function and they make trades using leverage, will Stop Losses protect you against losing more capital than that initial Stop Loss limit?

    • @SocialTrading
      @SocialTrading  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The stop loss feature is there to stop you losing more than you want to, yes, although there are instances when your losses can exceed even the stop losses you set… I made some vids about it. I’ll try to find them

    Say I used x5 leverage and invested $500
    And I lost all. This means my loss would be $2,500.
    How would etoro recover the $2k since i only had $500

    • @MankindDiary
      @MankindDiary 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're playing with $500 so you can lose only $500. After being down this $500, platform will automatically close all of your positions.
      eToro is a UK company and UK follows EU law in regard to e-trading. According to the EU law you cannot go bellow zero.

    • @SocialTrading
      @SocialTrading  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep, what was said above. Using X5 leverage will only amplify the speed at which you make or lose money, but it will cut off your trade if you reach the $500 loss. I'm not sure how strict the 'negative balance protection' is, but they do state that they provide it on their site. Barring any strange events, it should cut you off at -500.

    im still so confused. i tried leverage trading out on kraken. bought 100 dollars of xrp at 5x leverage. its up 7% says i made a profit of 7 dollars.... shouldnt it be 7% 7 dollars x 5 so 35 dollar profit...

    • @SocialTrading
      @SocialTrading  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Easiest to apply the multiplication to the units bought and then work out the profit from there I think... I'm not sure how things work on Kraken though really - I signed up for it years ago, but haven't really had any experience with it. Especially not with trading using leverage. Sorry I can't be of more help... On eToro, when you make a trade using leverage, you can see the 'units' change as you apply leverage to the trade in the little pop up box you see when you're setting up your trade. If you were going to buy 1 unit of Apple stock whilst using no leverage (X1), then as soon as you click the X5 button to apply times-five leverage, you see that you're now buying 5 units instead of 1. From there, I find it much easier to work out the profit I'm meant to be making.

      @@SocialTrading hey bud. Thanks for the response. I figured it out. My mistake. When I selected 100 dollars at 5x leverage I thought I was putting out 100 and playing with 500 bucks. But its the opposite. I select 100. So im playing with 100 but the 5x subtracts so its only costing me 20. Backwards from what I thought

    Something I dont understand about leverage is, it is borrowed money? How can I spend £100 then leverage 5x and have it be worth £500? It sounds like it's money out of thin air.

  • @mrcammackarzie

    Great video. Question - if your trade amount was 500 with a TP of +250 and a SL of -250, would selecting 'x5' leverage also increase my TP and SL amount by 5 times (I.e. TP +1250 and SL -1250) so essentially the target price level for the stock doesn't change but I stand to gain (or lose) more money? I'm guessing the answer is no as you could lose in excess of your account balance and it would just be an increase to the trade amount so I would reach my +/ 250 TP or SL a lot quicker? Hope that makes sense!

    • @SocialTrading
      @SocialTrading  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Will, yeah, as far as I know, it just means you'll be multiplying the units you're buying by X5, so you'd reach your TP or SL quicker, but the TP or SL would be whatever you had previously assigned.

      It adds to risk hugely when you're new, and does incurr overnight and weekend fees... Some assets always have overnight and weekend fees. Others only icurr them when you're 'selling' (hoping to make money as the price goes down) and asset, or using leverage. You can find the full list on the eToro fees page...

      Hi there - they had something called a 'stock split' which was designed to make shares much cheaper and encourage more people to buy into the stock. You can read about it here: www.fool.com/investing/2022/06/17/amazon-stock-split-why-it-matters/#:~:text=A%2020%2Dfor%2D1%20split&text=That%20means%20investors%20holding%20one,the%20days%20following%20the%20split.

    "leverage trading" From experience - sure use it, but not beyond 2x! It took me about 7 years to get my money back from beginner mistakes utilising high leverage - read 50 -100x leverage. It's exciting, but personally I lost cash. It didn't effect my standard of life, but I regret it. Just don't do it as a beginner.
