- In case you own an old computer or laptop with outdated system resources but good hardware configuration and you are looking for a Linux distribution that still supports a 32-bit system.

I'm currently using Debian MATE 32 bit on a Dell INSPRION mini and it ROCKS! This on a netbook with an Atom CPU and only 1 Gig of memory.
i have acer aspire with atom z510 but it's not great because of the PowerVR Intel GMA 500 GPU which is so proprietary it is basically unusable on GNU/Linux
I'm also an owner of a Dell Inspiron 1011 (aka Dell Mini10v), but i'm using MX Linux Fluxbox. It only occupies 300 megabytes of RAM.
@@tacokoneko have you tried to install Haiku OS on it? It would run very fast for sure.
First thing that needs to be said, is a lot of Linux dev's out there that are a part of many popular Linux groups 100% turned their back supporting users with 32-bit systems and went against the whole Linux principal of inclusion, basically the same narrow-mindfulness of following a "close-source" mentality by not supporting hardware. LUCKY FOR US that the Debian team who is one of the first Linux distro's out there still supports us that use USEFUL 32-bit computer systems. Debian 11 is a great choice, also MX Linux as it's based on top of Debian and Linux Mint LMDE 32-bit version which again is based on top of Debian is a good choice as well.
The few of us weirdo's that still like to play around with netbooks and obsolete laptops definitly appreciate the few distros left to choose from. I have an obsession with things like the Dell Inspiron Mini's and Sony Vaio P's. By any chance do you know if Debian supports the GMA 500 graphics ? I know performance / support was already awful but heard a few dev's that wanted to outright drop support going forward. Right now it seems like i'm stuck with windows XP or a very very stripped down version of 7/10 for the best graphical support on my old Vaio P.
@@CondoreComputing inspiron laptops are awesome. It is one of the easiest for anybody to just open and fix themselves
Thank you for making this list! 32 bit is still relevant even in 2023.
Релевантно только для бомжей с помойки и для говноедов.
Yea, i needed it to tune my piggyback ecu
In the video you did not inlcude the system requirements for BunsenLabs linux. [EDIT#1] Or for Bodhi Linux. [EDIT #2] or for OpenSUSE. [EDIT #3] or for Gentoo
The best 32 bit distros for me right now are MX Linux & LMDE.
Ubuntu Mate still supports 32-bit and ARMv7 and it’s a great distro.
One drawback to Debian is that it doesn't seem to have a "trial" option, like other distros of Linux. I've been experimenting with a Gateway 2000 Pentium 4 system, but since it's also my "retro gamer", I need it to continue running Windows XP as its main OS, so it can run my older Windows based games. I also want a version that can be test run right off of the CD so I can use it to test other older systems where the hard drive has either failed, or been removed by the previous owner.
Excellent video, thank you !
Thanks for the feedback bro
You don`t mention if the distro needs PAE-support. Many old computers don`t support it.
Puppy, Antix and Bodhi are still supporting non-pae CPUs
@@jensputzlocher8345Did you try ? You dont mention what version.
@@rvqx I used bionicpup on a very old laptop a few years ago. But i don't own that device any more.
I can't post a direct Link, because of youtube killing it automatically, but please search for "puppy linux non-pae virtono" - there you''ll get the answers you are looking for ( for all three distros).
How do you manage to sound like badly setup text to speech synth yet simultaneously have an Indian tech support ascent?
I use 32bit Xenialpup and I'm very satisfied with it.
Many Thanks
Thank you for posting
Linux mint does get anymore updates
"Linux Mint Debian Edition (LMDE)" still supports 32bit and gets updates. But mints main distro called "Linux Mint" has dropped 32bit Support a few years ago.
@@jensputzlocher8345i’m trying i didn’t know it could boot both 32 and 64
