I really enjoyed that. Lovely respectful renovation on a really nice looking bike. So relaxing to watch you work without music blaring out. Many thanks for sharing and all the best for other projects.
There's a lot that goes into a rebuild, even when you don't polish everything to a mirror finish, or delve into fixing finish issues like scratches. Nice job on it; your friend should be extremely happy.
I’ve been fixing to restore my nishiki and i have to say, one of the best video set up/edits. Your video was clear and could see closely what you were working on.. shiiit probably better view than if I was there in person.. Well done dude!
One item I added to my kit recently is an ultrasonic cleaner for hard to clean parts like derailleurs and brakes; bearings and shifters. Saves boatloads of time and works great.
You know it is a quality frame when he put the bottom bracket back together and the crank span effortlessly. Most modern carbon frames are not that precisely engineered. And the frame is lugged, what a beauty. But, if possible, I would have used a Shimano 105 groupset to update the bike.

Awesome resto. Working on a 1980 Schwinn Suburban right now. It’s incomplete and needs lots of work and the paint is badly damaged so it’s going to be a custom restoration when finished. The whole point of this build is to preserve the Positron II and Front Freewheel System that’s on the bike, because it’s unique old tech that I think is awesome.
when renovating aluminium parts like these, if the protective anodized coating is taken off with a wire wheel, then they should be polished to a mirror finish. If left like the parts in the video(rough with deep marks from the wire wheel), those parts are going to corrode like there's no tomorrow. A mirror finish is not just for looks, minimizing the surface scratches helps in prevents areas where corrosion can form. All that being said, if the bike is ONLY ridden in dry weather, then it should be okay.
Hi. Thanks for your tip. I love restoring bikes and i do some times. But i didn't know about this. It can ruin all the energy and passion spent on the bike. It was very useful. Thanks!!!
@@Fred_the_1996 for steel parts yes, there are multiple products such as boiled linseed oil and WD-40, however aluminium parts need to be either anodized or polished to keep out corrosion. They can also be clear coated but this can chip and fail quite quickly. Mirror polish or anodization are the best solutions for raw aluminium
@@barca97100I’ve always wondered about this given how many bike restoration videos strip the anodization. This is the first comment I’ve seen addressing this concern, thanks
I grabbed similar bike from dumpster. Its Schauff Grand Sport (?). Unfortunately it was converted to flatbars and the frame mounted manettes are missing :C Really got me interested in retro bikes from that era!
beautiful job ... welll done ! ! ! good to see you keep the downtube shifting original . ain't nothing more manly like an original downtube shiftin passin up traffic and some city buses ... thanks for keepin it's balls. some of these guys that convert downtube shiftin are pretty boyz .
I just got an old sun solo bike but its rusted and pitted more than its painted, the wheels are crumbling and its in terrible condition, im hoping to restore it but idk will i be able to without it getting 2 expensive

Not being nosey, just curious. Your skills are off the hook.
I dunno how many years you've been doing this to your skin and if you're taking care of yourself after work is done. So perhaps this bit of advice is useless to you. But I must say, after too many years, we never wore gloves, those chemicals finally destroyed my skin. Im not even that old of an ol' far* ... youve got to wear gloves
Another lovely old bike brought back to.life and not on the scrap heap great restore all the best😊
I like that you just buffed the frame and kept all the scuffs and scratches on it. Super tasteful resto! Great work man!
patina !
Thanks for the great video. No annoying music, no commentary.. just tools and experience at work..👍
I have 2 early Viscounts. They are weird and I love them.
I’m so glad you preserved the paint and decals. Great colors too. Well done, sir.

Superb video - George U.K.
dreaming of a mix retro build .. retro frame set with modern components (for efficiency and comfort)
That's how I build my frames. Go for it.

I'll be here if you rebuild it again in 2061. Great job!

This is why I keep old vintage bikes. They're real bikes!!! 🚲
Nice work

your work..is nice
Nice frame: forged dropouts and the seat cluster is tasteful.
Transition to centerpull brake calipers.
The rims look like they are super champion.
Lovely bike. Great work.
That thing was in rough shape and you brought it back! excellent
Amazing work matte. I just have to say that a red or white handlebar tape would be such a better fit :)
A Vintage Masterpiece!
Beautiful job
I appreciate your work, leaving the bicycle in it's original configuration. That BB thread cutter... Daddy-o.
DITTO!!!
That quill stem is hot asf, I love how it’s got a more angular design vs round tubed stems. Looks very sleek and aggressive

Can I use some kind of coating to limit rust?

Great restoration, well done. 👍👍
Congratulations, very good job.
Beautiful and original. Bellissima!
W0w great restoration!
Hi, It would have been interesting to know something more about the bicycle. Maybe just the year of production would suffice. Thanks for the video
Great job! Looks fantastic
Awesome... 👍👍
Excellent job!!! Wish it was mine. Good luck!!!
Nice job. 👌
Great Job!
great video! what tools would you recommend using for frame rust? if you're trying to preserve the original paint
ery good job mate. Really satisfying to watch
Nice! Good to see a Viscount restored 👍🏼
What kind of 'brush' did you use on the frame? Did it affect paint or just remove rusty spots? Thanks
Good job!
Nice job but needs a paint matching for the odd chip nobody does this, and it's needed for showroom condition, a bit of a t-cut not the same

Wondering what tool you used, I’m trying to fix up my own bike
i’m basically going to attempt this with nothing but a monkey wrench some vinegar and random tools
What did you spray on the rims before using the steel wool?
Looked like WD-40
Great video, what was in the cleaning bath you soaked and scrubbed the parts with?
I'll ride that bad boy rusty bianchis are solid
Bravo 👏🏻👏🏻

Si pudieras explicar con que liquido lavas las piesas

Restore it gradually, it's nice to have a project to look forward to!.
So the drive train on this bike was bit of a mixed bag? Brakes look like an early 600 or Dura-Ace group while the rear mech is a Shimano Altus?
can you please advise how you polished the parts after wire wheel?
@James Topham not sure if I get this correctly. Can you please send more info?
What part of cleaning the frame your friend doesn't understand? He just let it get that dirty? 🚲
whats the tools at 8:58 and the red grease at 9:18?
It cleaned up nice it is too bad you could not have had some decals made and had it repainted, then it would have looked even better.
Great job with super camera work.what sort of sanding wheels do you use.
Mmmmmmmmmm.....CRUSTY!!
What saddle it is? btw I like your restoring style
How did you reconnect the old chain?
He put on a new chain.
Went through all this trouble but didn’t put in new parts? Or the frame is not worth putting new stuff in?
What new parts do you think it needed? I didn't see any that were broken or looked worn out.
I saw new cables, new chain, new tires, new handlebar tape. The components on those old vintage bikes are very durable.

Nice 👍. What about a lacquer spray on the frame before the rebuild. Would it work..? Or damage..? Not a criticism .👏
Probably a good idea.
👌👌👌🚴🚴🚴👏👏
NIce, but dude, you could have done it better. why not polishing all aluminum parts?? :-(
more like cleanup than restoration
Brake levers are too low, the cables on such vintage bikes go behind the handlebars
Default position was bottom of the levers levelled with the bottom of the bars I was taught that at a bike shop I work at
Shiny

what size tools you use to open the crank padle? i sure it is left side
