Also, there is a suggestion based upon the makeup of the moons Ganymede and Callisto, that some watery seas may be hundreds of miles deep. There will probably be mostly water and mostly land worlds, but perhaps not as often as the happy medium.

With ocean currents, I've wondered how it might be for Earth if for example the continent of Africa was disconnected from the Middle East and positioned way further south thus enlarging the Mediterranean and red Sea.
Bring it down where the -45 line of latitude would go across South Africa instead of -30 latitude thus having it be roughly where Maine, southern France and northern italy would be in the northern hemisphere.
Also disconnect Columbia and Panama from each other and move South America where Brazil's eastern most shore Bulge would touch the -30 line of longitude, thus having a wide gap connecting the Atlantic and Pacific oceans down in the tropics.

If Earth were half land and half water, it would likely have a significant impact on the planet's climate and ecosystems. The distribution of water and land affects weather patterns and ocean currents, which play a major role in regulating temperature and precipitation. Additionally, the proportion of land and water also determines the types of plants and animals that can survive in different regions. Without land to support terrestrial life, the diversity of species would likely be greatly reduced. Additionally, it would be difficult for human civilization to sustain itself if the majority of the planet's surface was covered in water.

I mean, I guess water isn’t completely an “absolute must have” because many scientists believe that a different kind of life with a completely different chemistry could exist on Titan. It is thought that perhaps they don’t need liquid water to survive.
