Like stfu, he speaks 32 languages, does he have to be 100% fluent in every one of them? Of the four languages I know, I understood everything he said, so I'd say that's already a good start. As long as people understand you, you speak the language. No need to be a poet to speak a language.

+Girl Online Well it depends on the language, my first language is Turkish and it's phonetic so if you can write a word you can pronounce it, or if you hear/pronounce a word you can write it. But most of the languages aren't like this, for example English. In English words can sound the same but can be written as different words. This will make the writing part harder to learn. Hope i knew more than these two languages :l

It really depends on your current environment, personal variables and cultural background. Let's say you're Chinese, then Japanese and Korean will be relatively easier for me due to the "boxed writing style", speaking isn't really a problem if you're willing and would love to learn the language. But at the same time, languages such as Arabic, Latin and Russian will be fairly difficult.
The same method can be applied to all languages really! The language that is the closest to your language may be the easiest to learn for most people. If you're introduced a language that is completely different from yours in every aspect then it'll be a bit of a problem.
PS. The speaking part is fine if you're willing to learn. But the Chinese writing system definitely kills.

The most difficult language is really a subjective question. In terms of pronunciation, Mandarin might be the hardest, considering not only the exotic phonetic system but also the tones, but grammatically it's actually one of the simples languages I've come across. In terms of grammar, Ancient Greek is probably one of the hardest I've had experience with. And, even though it's a dead language, Ancient Mayan beats Chinese out of the water in terms of script complexity.

PSA: To speak 32 languages fluently and maintain them is nigh impossible. *Maybe* you have learned them all to fluency at some point, but with that number there will likely be some left in the dust long enough that you no longer speak them well or at all. ("Use it or lose it.") Unless, of course, you dedicate your life 100% to maintaining all 32 of your languages. Which would be stupid.
Besides, it seems several of the languages he spoke here weren't quite up to snuff. This guy probably speaks a lesser number of languages (who knows-could be 8 or 12 or 17) and has studied 32.
ALSO: You do *not* need to travel to learn a language. People need to quit spreading that myth.

No that's his own estimation of "fluent". The only real determination of fluency is having at least 3 native speakers not tell the difference between you and the other native speakers. If they can't tell then that is true fluency. Or, if you think that's too staunch then call it "native" level speaker and then true fluency is when 3 native speakers don't have to try to understand what you are saying when you say it. Plenty of people here have said his mandarin was bad, his dutch was horrific and who knows what else people would say about his other languages he "speaks".

Similar story with his Spanish - proper sentence structuring, subpar pronunciation. I think there's a number of languages a polyglot can learn after which the quality of each will start to deteriorate, considering the extreme amount of time you need to learn and maintain a language knowledge up to an upper intermediate level (where I myself consider that I have learnt the language). And 32 is way past that number. Judging from the comments from natives he is at lower intermediate level at best for some of the languages.
