Brian Grubb is always looking to innovate in wakeskating and the American took the sport to new territory with his drone tow ride down the Sava Bohinjka River in Slovenia.
The New Hampshire native finally realised a dream he has had for years about taking wakeskating into the future with technology.
He teamed up with Infineon Technologies to get an electric-powered quadcopter drone built that would be able to tow him down the idyllic crystal clear Alpine river, which flows deep in the mountains of Slovenia.
The German company delivered a safe and reliable flying machine with a battery as powerful as 158 smartphones put together (1,5 kWh / 51,8 V / 30 Ah) and rotor blades stretching 80 centimetres in diameter.
The impressive 24-kilogram machine could tow Grubb for 10 minutes straight and could even lift him in the air if needed with the 38-year-old completing a world first winch-to-drone handle pass as part of the project.

Technology is crazy. Just think, about 100 years ago we didn't even have airplanes. 20 years ago cell phones were just really hitting the market. Now we can be pulled by a drone down a river. This is great

Just 'happened' upon this, I'm from/in NH so it seems even cooler to me lol. I'm into fpv freestyle quads but this looks pretty insane. The size of the motors are redonkulous! How long is flight time?? 10 minutes?! Wow!!! Still, I bet those 10 minutes go by sooo fast tho!!

This is why i like redbull as a company. Stuff like this would be unnatainable without a company like red bull backing the project supporting these athletes dreams, obviously "we" can't ride behind a drone. I can only magine the cost behind this. I don't even want to know how much that drone cost to develop, then a whole team to pilot and maintenance the thing.. that being said it is amazing to see stuff like this come to fruition!!

Amazing! Great idea, but how long is the drone able to fly? I mean it’s a huge load! I will stick to my „normal“ winch, well because i don’t have that much Money, but it must be a great advanture!

@@MrKlabba86 So how'd you not fry anything when it hit the water? I imagine you're running 6s or higher batteries that would short out fully submerged like that. Sketchy picking it up out of the water.
I've been trying to get an electric snowboard somehow and this is the only way. A snowkite with EDF motors might be cool too. That's an easy way to control things from the bar. Only need to control motor speed as the kite does the rest.

@@killerkiteboarding We flew on 14s batteries. All PCBs were coated. In addition, there are only small leakage currents in fresh water anyway because of its low conductivity. Apart from the propellers and the cover, nothing broke when we splashed. Neither batteries nor connectors nor motors showed any signs of damage or corrosion.

You need to put an automatic mode on the place where you wanna ride. And you can get money for this. It should be completly less cheaper than boat or cable, I wanna do this ! Go to France or sell those drones
