I’ve been using my call upside down since I’ve started turkey hunting 5 years ago and I’ve always wondered why I couldn’t call like everyone else! Great video, thanks so much!
After scanning several other videos I just started your video and skimmed the timeline of the video to see what you do in it. You are the ONLY one I have found so far that has ANY VISUAL demonstration where in the roof of your mouth its supposed to go. Thank you!!
Thanks DH. I will have to incorporate this more often. I was sitting with my kid at the orthodontist when this hit me. I saw a little model mouth and said. “I’ve got to get one of those.” Glad it was helpful for you
As a guy who has no clue what he's doing right now this video seriously helped me with a physical display I could look at. I had my call WAY too far forward.
Sure wish this video would have been around in 1995. The fake jaws demo would have been mighty helpful. I went months thinking the latex went to the back of the mouth.
Thanks Julius, I agree. The shape of the mouth call is counter-intuitive to how we would think it is supposed to go. I remember when I first started I am sure there were lots of folks in my house wanting to cut that thing up.
Thanks Bill! Be sure and subscribe cause I plan on unloading my 30 some odd years of turkey hunting experience and knowledge on here. For better or for worse it has gotten me to where I understand the game a bit more anyhow!
I'm also in NC and can't wait for this season. This is my 1st year hunting turkey and jus got my mouth calls in today and this is another gud video it helped me out
Didn’t know flipping it over made such an easier way to get some of those higher pitch noises that I’ve been trying to get lol. Thanks for this! I would have never known lol.
@@callemorcrawlem middle TN is where I’m at. Good luck to you as well. April 15th this year is the start for us. I may go to KY this year too and try that out. We will see.
I just figured it out, thanks. Two things happened immediately, my wife said "What was that??" from the living room, and all of my dogs are in my office.
Thanks for this. I've been calling with the call backward because it was comfortable for me. I didn't know it was kind of a natural thing, and you just had to get used to it.
2 feet of snow on the ground up here in MN. Hard to imagine turkey hunting but trying to get excited. I can make sounds with mouth calls and don't gag but the latex makes my tongue itch for days. Gonna deal with it tho.
Hello, I am from New Brunswick Canada. Wild turkey's are a new addition to our province. And this spring will be our 3rd season (lottery). I don't plan on hunting them, but still want to try calling toms to my camera. I have tried calling by mouth, and I can get it a bit.. but it is too hard on my throat. I am 64 and wear both sets of dentures. I would think that these diaphragm calls would not stay in place. So my question to you is...what type of call should I as a beginner buy that will give me a varied amount of hen calls? I don't really like the idea of a slate call, because as I understand they require some maintenance. Just subscribed, do you have video that will cover this? Thank You!😊👍
Hey buddy! I would recommend a ceramic surface pot call. Waterproof and practically indestructible. Requires very little maintenance. Occasional light sanding with some 320 grit if anything. I do have some videos on call maintenance and plan to put out more. I have a ceramic surface call that I sale that I believe would be just what you need
Andrew, This can be a bit tricky to explain, so I may need to add a video that captures this with use of the model mouth. All that said though, if you think of the call as an instrument (let's say a guitar) your tongue would be your fingers. So you cannot rely on a stagnant tongue position. You'll need to learn to flex and relax your tongue in a sense in order to manipulate different pressures on the reed as air passes over it. I will put some thought into how I can illustrate this and circle back to you. Good luck this spring.
Possibly. So the question would be are the edges of the tape on your teeth as far as your pre molars and such. It should sit fair flush on the inner rim of the teeth.
I have tried and tried, cut some down, got advice from many good callers, but I can't make turkey sounds. Frustrating! I saved this, great info, sure hope it helps me break out of this funk!
The tape if that is what you're referring to can be trimmed down to fit your mouth or you can try a smaller frame call - you don't necessarily have to have a seal with the call on the roof of your mouth, it's more so learning to activate the reed
Definitely makes a difference in the sound. Often times the cut reed will be a significant different color and can help to identify the "top" of the call.

Oh my gosh man, God bless you and your denture demo! Thank you for being so thorough.
Lol - you are welcome
Great information, clear and to the point
Glad it was helpful! If there is anything you are looking for information-wise on the subject hit me up! Good Luck this spring.

@@thehuntingparadox2291 awesome those bluegrass gobblers are fun to chase.
Yea!! My call came today. I'm sure that I was about 1 year old the last time I had this much slobber down my chin. :)
LOL! Keep practicing! It takes a little and focus on the yelp and you'll be on your way!

Be careful. Sounds like a latex allergy. Good Luck this spring and let me know how your season fairs.
I got a turkey call to play with my dog 😂 thank you for the video!

I’m new to mouth calls. Where do you put your tongue? Do you use the tip of the tongue or middle of the tongue to create pressure?

@@callemorcrawlem That would be great!! Please do especially for us new guys.
I’ll put some thought into how to pull this off
I can’t get mine to stick to the roof of my mouth. It keeps falling down and not staying, I’m assuming because it might be too big for it?
Possibly. So the question would be are the edges of the tape on your teeth as far as your pre molars and such. It should sit fair flush on the inner rim of the teeth.

Welcome to the jungle! This is a great video along with the others to get you a good primer on running mouth calls
I can make sounds with them but it never sounds right
Keep practicing bud! Small steps in the right direction you’ll get there
I can't get suction on mine too stick to the roof of my mouth

I had mine upside down by accident and was getting high ass pitching on mistake LMFAO
