    I love flail mowers. I have used one on my property. Unfortunately, I ran over a stake in the ground and the clutch had to be replaced. Thank God fo KTAC insurance. After watching you with the BX and a flail I may get one for my BX. I like having the mower behind me and not under me, while on the tractor.

Iv been wanting to get one for maintaining/opening up land in the woods behind my house.. when you started plowing over those large bushes I said “this guy is a maniac!” Haha! Hey Jon👍I went with a stihl kombi system for my pole saw because it has different attachments and you can use it when it’s short or long if you get the extension piece. You are giving me courage to go for the big stuff up until now I wasn’t running over stuff that big. The Betsco flail mower is a solid attachment I mean implement😂👍

    My BX2680 is being delivered on Monday afternoon WOOHOO!!! Finally, after about a month of waiting. Won't be delivered with the mower unfortunately as it had to be ordered, as did the pallet forks. Oh well. It'll give me time to get some other chores done with it while waiting for the mower and pallet forks.
    I have been thinking about ordering that flail mower, not with the hammer blades as I don't really have brush to cut, I think the flail mower would work great out in my pasture area that's nice and wide open. Mostly pasture grass if I ever get water on it again, just weeds right now though unfortunately....hoping to get an irrigation pump here soon.
    My Messick's 3 point adjustable stabilizer kit showed up today...so it'll get installed pretty quickly after I get the tractor.
    I see there's a 4" wood chipper available from BETSTCO as well for about $1900....thinking of ordering one, I think between the flail mower, wood chipper, roto tiller, box blade, loader, and mower deck I could keep myself quite busy throughout the summer and fall, and probably get enough side money to buy the snow blower or snow blade for the winter...may have to just go into the side business altogether, I think I'd enjoy it much more than my current job.

    All those grinding noised - I thought for sure your hydrostat fan was toast. I love the doing stuff and explaining stuff videos. And I'm still waiting for the "how I jumped from a cub cadet to a bx25" video. Best to you.

    • @wildbill23c
      @wildbill23c 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can do that but not in a video. I need a tractor that can do things my Cub Cadet XT1 42" lawn tractor cannot do...oh like running a front end loader, roto-tilling, running a box blade, that type of stuff that a lawn tractor built in the past what about 20 years can't manage because they're nothing more than a lawn mower you sit on, they can't handle the tractor tasks like some of the old Cub Cadet lawn/garden tractors from the 60's and 70's could do. Hell they don't even make attachment for these new ones for that very reason, they can't handle anything other than mowing duties...and they're owned by MTD so even worse.

    • @brianr1812
      @brianr1812 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      All good. Jon's lot is less than an acre and had lawn tractor before upgrading. His bx does more, sure - but that's not the interesting part to me. It is how he made the leap to justify the expense, and how he got everyone else onboard with that decision, and his process of finding the deal that put had him finally pull the trigger - those are interesting details to me.

    • @wildbill23c
      @wildbill23c 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@brianr1812 Prior to the Cub Cadet I had a Craftsman YT4000 lawn tractor. I babied that thing for 7 years just to get it to last that long before the engine threw a rod. Wasn't impressed with that thing. So after it died I had thought well I'd go look at a John Deere X700 series garden tractor. Something larger, and maybe something that would last. What sent me over the edge into BX territory was the price they want for one of those X700's. For that kind of money for a couple thousand bucks more I could get the BX2680 and a loader and be able to do more with it than the garden tractor ever would. So here 4 years later I'm taking delivery on my BX2680 with loader, 60 inch mid mount mower, roto tiller, box blade and pallet forks. Yep about $24k worth of tractor, and implements but it's going to save me a lot of time and effort over the next several years on the property, yeah I only have an acre, but when you are by yourself and work all the time it gets out of hand pretty quickly and I needed something I could count on to get the work done that my lawn tractor cannot do.

I swept out a steep ditch full of gravel from the snow plough that my BX power broom couldn't do because of the steep angle. Ive got a 24.7 hp tractor which translates to 18 hp at the PTO and looked into the flail mowers. The EFG 125 is the 48" medium duty mower that can eat up to 2" diameter material. The heavy duty EFGC eats up to 3" diameter, but my tractor doesn't have enough power to run the 48" heavy duty. The Betstco rep said the EFGC 41" heavy duty model will work, so I ordered it. Should get it in a week or so. Cant wait! I sacrificed 7 inches of width to get the heavy duty model. I think It will pay off. We'll see.

    • @ritterjon

      You'll be able to run the 48 medium duty no problem but if it's large brush you want to tackle maybe the 41 heavy duty is best for you. I've never ran it so I don't know its capabilities. I like the 48 because it's the same width as the tractor.

Not sure where to really buy Echo equipment anymore, my grandfather bought his at a hardware store that my uncle used to work at. Seems the box stores have some Echo stuff but how good is it? Well I bought an Echo chainsaw from Home Depot several years back, used it twice, and it would never start again. 18 HP at your tractor’s PTO. Any real problem running that flail mower? Looks like it did a good job. I’ve been trying to decide on the 48” or the 41” for my John Deere 1025r.

    • @ritterjon
      @ritterjon  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is correct, actually slightly under 18, I think it's 17.8 or something like that. The 48 inch is the perfect size and will work great on your JD 1025R also.

      I wondered the same thing and took a chance that it would work for me and it works very well. Pull the trigger and get it, you won’t be disappointed. I’m not affiliated with Betsco at all. I’m quite surprised it’s held up to everything I’ve been able to throw at it.

Great video and keep up the great advice as well as that Ritter humor. Be well from Canada.

    • @ritterjon
      @ritterjon  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It depends on what type of grass and weeds. The only problem I had was with some very fibrous swamp grass. The type you can cut your fingers on when you pull it. I had to go very slow to not bog down the flail. It’s really going to depend on how thick and what type of stuff your cutting.

    • @ritterjon
      @ritterjon  ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s actually belt driven with 2 parallel belts. The belts work like a slip clutch would. I’ve yet to break a shear pin.

    Your just having to much fun to even begin to call that work... LOL... They should sponsor your channel for all the advertising your doing for them... LOL... I would love to be physically able and to have the land to do stuff like that. I use to love doing landscaping work in my large yard before the motorcycle wreck that left me physically broken to the point that only God can fix me now. The doctors did a fine job saving my life and putting me back together the best they could. But when you broadside a pickup at 45MPH that pulled out in front of you on a county road it take a toll on ones body. They said that I was airborne for over 50ft. as my passenger and I flow over the pickup truck. Yes it killed both of us but I wouldn't stay dead they brought me back 3 times then I slipped into a coma for 21 days of pure hell in my mind. That's another long nightmare of a story. As for my rider she was 72yo. she went on to glory without me. I miss her everyday. That was back in September 14th 2012. But besides being stuck in a bed most of the time I still praise God that I can do the outreach work I did before the wreck I just now do it over the internet rather than riding across miles. Well I've rambled on enough no idea why I said all this but I'm just an old physically broken saddle sore biker that loves to ramble I guess.
    Much love and prayers be blessed in Jesus name... BBE..

      Hey Bobby, it's comments like this that remind me how fortunate I am to be able to do things like I do. Your story of tragedy and perseverance is inspiring. So sorry for the loss of your passenger as I can't imagine how hard that's been on you over the years. God kept you alive for a reason and needs you to continue doing outreach work. I appreciate you sharing your story. God bless.
