So let me get this straight , they shot her because someone might get hurt for not following your demands by leaving her alone. If someone were to get hurt that is their fault ! Not the animals , the animal didn’t even do anything .

The Norwegian government really needed to move Freya far away. They refused to relocate her because of the cost involved. It would have been easy to get Freya onto a barge. All they had to do was put a pile of fish on the deck, and Freya would have climbed inside of it. Then they could have shipped Freya further up north and dropped her off in the Arctic Circle.

What about the wayward beluga Horvald? Or whatever his name was. I think he eventually swam away. But I'm pretty sure they could've learnt from that situation. Laws and fines were implemented because people were swimming w him, and he was very friendly, but weighing almost 800 lbs. it's too dangerous. And people are stupid. But, they could've tried finding other ways besides death as the only option, for Freya.. Did they shoot her with euthanizing tranquilizer darts, or with actual bullets? How was she "euthanized"? When I've caught invasive fish, for example, they can't be thrown back; hence why we put them on ice or in a freezer for the most humane & painless death possible. I can't think of any other options for a pinniped, though... Their blubber is thick. It might require a lot to take one down; either a lot of the drugs or a shotgun. Or an assault rifle! Jeez. Hope it wasn't something torturous and primitive like a bow and arrow. Lol. If it's with anything other than a tranq dart, then I'm pretty sure that's not "euthanizing", to me at least; it's more like executing. Assassinating. Murdering. And I'm NOT a vegetarian or hippie. It just seems illogical. If she was so at risk, the first step should've been implementing fines. Not that I'm wishing people mistreated her or were injured by her... but damn--Missed opportunity for some local revenue, Oslo!!
At that point, if she's a problem, a nuisance or a "stray" (which nobody knows her true story anyway), take her into captivity. Let her become an ambassador to educate the public about why it's not good to mess with wild animals (when they appear), perhaps? If she'd been given to an aquarium or park or private marine research/rescue center, she could be alive AND teaching the public what NOT to do if this happened again! Notice I said if she'd been GIVEN to a center--I feel like numerous establishments (and governments) would have actually PAID the country of Norway or the city of Oslo to adopt her. Look at that. Another missed revenue guys! See, you could have made a few extra dollars AND she'd be an ambassador animal for her species to educate the ignorant masses!! 💁🏼‍♂️😂👏🏽👏🏽 Yes, good job you guys. 😏
But then again, we are talking about a country--Norway--that is the only one besides Japan to have legal whaling (in the modern era; and so many whales are endangered, bc of historical whaling), so that should tell you about their regard for marine life. They also despise their native wolves, so much so that all Norwegian gray wolves are kept in a fenced park. For everyone's "sake". I bet the roe deer population will be exploding soon...good luck! Ya know; lock up the wolves, rather than letting nature be nature, and people and animals learn from each other. I guess not all of Scandinavia is the "IKEA" image of harmonious perfection, though. JK. Sigh. Oh wait, didn't Swedish hunters murder that rare white moose...? Wow. Ok nevermind. Nowhere is perfect.

Very sad, this lovely animal was killed.Usually marinas have locked gates, with a security code, to be able to enter the dock areas,(in Australia, marinas have locked gates). Those people shouldn't have been on the docks at all. This is sad poor 'Freya' was killed. She could've been caught & taken to a marine conservation place. Boats can be salvaged. If I lived in Norway & a walrus, sank my boat, so what !? I'd get it salvaged. I have insurance to be in a marina. I wouldn't kill a walrus, just for being on my boat. My marina neighbours would agree with me. We don't have Walruses in Australia. Rest in Peace, Freya.
