  • They were rescued as orphans in the same week. They spent the next three months of their lives together, snuggling with keepers and each other. And now, after seven years, they’ll be together again.
    Young male walruses Mitik (pronounced Mitt-ick) and Pakak (Puck-uck, or Puck for short) have arrived at Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium to live in the Rocky Shores habitat - and they are clearly enjoying every minute together.

    They are gorgious. Time to raise some money to build them a huge pool and more natural looking outdoor area. 💕

    Was pakak transferred from the Indianapolis zoo?

    For those who are wondering, males and females both have mustaches and tusks - they are for feeding on their favorite food, clams. They dig in the mud with the tusks and root around with their faces feeling for clams with their sensitive mustache bristles. Once they've felt one, their mouths are shaped and evolved to suck them up, pop open the shells with suction and spit the empty shell out in less than a second. As you can imagine, they can eat MANY clams in a day.

    show them more often if you can. They're adorable. I wonder if they still like being hugged now that they're all grownup?

      @@qpid8110 truly sad, and his death is hardly being publicized, as if Six Flags is trying to play it down. He was a healthy, happy young walrus at Indianapolis and Pt. Defiance Zoos. They should've never transferred him to Six Flags.

      This isn't actually where they live, this is a training/checkup tank. If memory serves me right, it's connected to the main tank. I've been to Point Defiance and the walrus home is *far* bigger than what you can see here.

      He was moved to the Pt. Defiance Zoo in Washington. And from there, he was transferred to Six Flags, where he died at age 8 years on March 4, 2021. Very sad. I don't think he should've ever been transferred from either Indianapolis or Pt. Defiance. No one is talking about it. I only found out from a random TH-cam comment on another video. www.timesheraldonline.com/2021/03/19/six-flags-walrus-died-two-weeks-ago

    • @studinthemaking
      @studinthemaking 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@HaritheRenaissanceMan I had a bad feeling for him as soon as he left that zoo. Man that awful. 6 other animals died at that park. Why are they still sending animals to that park? Why do they all keep dying there?

    • @HaritheRenaissanceMan
      @HaritheRenaissanceMan 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@studinthemaking exactly. The excuse for Pakak and Mitik to be transferred from the Pt. Defiance Zoo was that they were becoming adult males and they needed to find a female so they could mate and create more walrus babies. I forget where I read about this. But why Six Flags of all places? Why couldn't it have been at some other reputable zoo, or maybe Pakak and Mitik could've been separated again, and be each given a female walrus companion. I know nothing about marine wildlife or zoo regulations, so I'm just thinking out loud. I just feel that had Pakak not been transferred to that death trap, he could've still been alive today. 8 years old. Way too young to die so soon.

    • @studinthemaking
      @studinthemaking 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@HaritheRenaissanceMan 6 walrus died there before him. They may have an animal serial killer on the lose. No park can be that incompetent.

      @HaritheRenaissanceMan 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@ritasmith5898 Totally - the article was really vague on his death, and it seems that no one wants to say anything about the circumstances around his death, but I truly believe that had he stayed at the Indianapolis or Pt. Defiance Zoos, he probably would still be alive. But again, who knows? Tragic indeed.
