Sometime in fall, 2008, Germany and the US switched to brown too to match the rest of the world. :) So German or US games that are pre-2008 will apparently be purple, and post will be brown. 😁 If anyone was still curious.. 😆 😂

👁️👄👁️ when you said we’re doing better for our kids than how our parents did for us was a HUGE realization moment for me, I’m a single mama my kids dad hasn’t been involved since we divorced, I’m working so much to make ends meet you know all the things so I’m CONSTANTLY feeling horrible about my parenting. But your perspective opened my eyes to all the ways that I’m giving my kids the parent I so desperately wished I had growing up 🥹 thank you for the reminder to be kind and give myself some grace💜

My grandfather, father and mother all taught me this lesson while growing up through strategy boardgames. They'd trip me up and encouraged me to not get hung up on my losses and adapt and not lose sight of new opportunities and sometimes they would purposefully make a mistake just to see if I would catch it and turn the game around to win. It was so effective in teaching me that a hiccup in the plan isn't the end of the world and I am so grateful for it!

Another analogy that’s similar to this is one my Highschool math teacher taught, the “don’t stare at the rock” speech. Imagine you’re out biking, and up ahead you see a big rock in your path. You know if you hit that rock you’re going to get thrown off your bike and that’s gonna hurt, so you want to go around it. Thing is, humans have this quirk of moving in whatever direction their looking at, so the more you stare at this rock, the harder it becomes to avoid. But, if you stop looking at what you’re trying to avoid and instead focus on where you want to go, it becomes much easier to go around the rock.
Problems and obstacles in life are much the same, the more you focus on them the harder they become to navigate. So instead of focusing on what you can’t do, it’s important to focus what you can do and what you want to achieve.
(So in a parental context: rather than saying to yourself, “I don’t want to become like my parents,” think about what kind of parent you do want to be and focus on that goal.)
Slightly different message than the Monopoly analogy but along the same lines.

This is so true. Except as a person who works with guardians and children, I do also think that we need to do a better job as a society ( American, at least) of encouraging guardians without just endorsing all choices. The children that I work with today are still children, but don’t have the same problems they did 13 years ago even when I started. They are also outside less, getting smaller amounts of exercise, have sleeping and waking patterns that are less aligned with circadian rhythms, are more likely to ingest substances ( such as melatonin) which disrupt your body’s natural system, more likely to live in single or divorced parent homes, and are, most importantly, more exposed to the neurological damages caused by screen time. Guardians CANNOT be perfect-but it seems that so few of them are trying to do a few of these things well….

I don't know where you live, but pretty much every area, big or small (in the US) have charities or churches that do a Christmas gifts for needy kids thing. There's no shame in using their services, & you don't actually have to have a religious affiliation to get help. I wish I were in a position to give you the financial help you need, but I'm on a small fixed income, & the only one getting anything from me for Christmas is my cat, Rusty. I hope something works out so Santa can come to your house this year. And I pray the new year is better for your family.

Oh it's ok sweetheart, trust me I completely understand and I just appreciate the thought of knowing that if you could, you would! 🤍 And also appreciate you not being judgy or rude. This is so beautiful!!! Having raised 3 and now a Nana for 2, I'm still constantly trying and learning!! I thank you for you videos as they help bring my thinking back to reality, still tho, I make mistakes all the time!! Thank goodness my daughter is a better, easier parent than me!!
