I wish you had connected it to power. I was hoping to observe if any lights would illuminate. I recently got one, and when I connect it to power, the light doesn't come on. Consequently, I'm unable to determine whether it's charging correctly or if there's a defect.

There is a red LED "charge light" on the front of the charger (see at 8:18). This only illuminates when the base is powered on AND the trimmer is inserted. If the trimmer is not inserted into the base, the LED will remain off, even though the base may have power. The LED does not turn off when the trimmer is inserted even if the trimmer is fully charged. A charge takes 12 hours.

How do you know when it is fully charged

there is no charge light, so basically, it works, you shave, it doesnt, you charge

The adjustable guard breaks and then won't clip to the shaver.
Avoid.

Cant say ive had an issue with this.
Yes, the guard is made from the usual plastic, but careful use will avoid breakage.
