    The new Ra edition is SO GOOD. I was bringing the previous version (2016) to every event and nobody liked it. It was just too hard to keep track of what scores, when and how. What will stay, what is removed every era. People lost interest while playing. But this new production is really nice. Player boards help so much. Scoring is clearly explained in icons and its clear what is removed and what will stay. Its also easy to look over to other players board area and estimate what is the worth of current pull. Just came home from 50-60 player 5 day long event and i think my copy of Ra Pharaoh version was the most played game of the whole event. And i explained it only once and to one group. It lived its own life after that.

    _Ra_ is a true classic. Just the essence of an auction, vs pulling out the Ra tile, cancelling your auction.

    I just replayed Tzolk'in myself, and yeah, this is a game I'll never master. I'm usually pretty good at figuring out games within the first few plays, but this one just eludes me every time. Still fun, though, lol.
    I really love Zapotec, personally, but especially with the Quick Start promo that came in the Board & Dice Loot Box. Having just 1-2 extra resources or start with something already built can do a lot for that first turn, and since you only have those five rounds, it makes a massive difference for the game overall. I honestly wish they had just included that promo in the base game, because I think it elevates the game that much.

      Glad to hear you’re enjoying Zapotec. It was fun, but not one I need to play again!
      Also, yes, Tzolk’in = No idea what I am doing 😅

    Tzolk'in is a very clever design. Each turn you can pull people off and trigger its rewards or put on.. not both.. which is the crunchy part. Love this game. Run out and buy it lol

    I just bought and assembled a copy of Tzolk'in this past weekend, so I'm glad to hear it's still worth owning!

    Love the new edition of Ra. Just wish I could table it more often.

    At some point you're going to raise that little paddle and say "If you want to 'Keep'" us instead of "'Cull' us", subscribe!

    The solo mode for Zapotec is great. You can play it in 30 mins. It might be worth a try before getting rid of it (if you like playing solo sometimes).

    Lancaster and In the Year of the Dragon are strong 9/10 for me ;). Love these games, especially with 4 players ;).

    Uh oh... I have Tindaya but haven't had a chance to play it yet. Getting through the rules and the amount of exceptions/special circumstances was definitely a hurdle. That was a few months ago and now that I haven't played it I'm afraid that I'll have to go through it all again. I'm expecting it to be long so that's not a surprise. Did you play the co-op mode or competitive? I think they recommend co-op for the initial play. Hopefully that will make it easier to teach / learn if we ever get it to the table. I really want to like it because I think the tight balancing of resource production and usage to prevent angering either of the gods sounds like an interesting euro twist.
    I also got the deluxe RA a few weeks ago... Sunniva is rarely wrong so I'm guessing she just made a mistake picking the "Cull" side of the paddle! 😉

    I 😍 In The Year of the Dragon but it's not at its best with only 2 players which is my main player count so I had to let it go. Such a great game! I love games with too many options and not enough time.

    • @BoardGamingRamblings
      @BoardGamingRamblings  ปีที่แล้ว

      That makes sense. It’s not really good at 2! :(

    Thanks for another fun video!
    So how come you decided to get rid of Oros? You only said positive things about it!
    Also, "this is a video and you have been watching it" - I love these penetrating insights of yours Johannes 😂. Really makes you stop and think... 😛

      It’s mostly a case of «not enough time and space» We get rid of many good and sometimes great games. The shelves are full and new games are coming in all the time, hehe!

    There seems to be a very high correlation between the "keeps" and games that you've played before and/or are a few years old.

    • @BoardGamingRamblings
      @BoardGamingRamblings  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, that is correct! New games/unplayed games are easier to get rid of, but we cull loads and loads of older games as well! :)

    Sorry to hear that the Fabio Lopiano game was a flop, particularly at 2p. We really like Merv at 2p, maybe more than a lot of other people, and I was thinking of maybe checking out another of his games.
    Tzolkin is a top 5-or-so game for us. Love it at every player count, just played it yesterday for probably the hundredth time. Had one of my best gaming experiences ever when a non-gaming friend playing it for the first time completely slaughtered a table of hardcore Euro gamers at 4p, it was incredible.

    • @BoardGamingRamblings
      @BoardGamingRamblings  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes, Merv at 2 is great. That dummy player is so clever!

    • @nchlsrdmr
      @nchlsrdmr ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I still think Zapotec is worth getting, even at 2. It's a clever game and very fast, you can easily play within 30 minutes at 2 once you get good at it. It's also pretty cheap whenever I've seen it so I'd definitely recommend getting it if you find a good deal.

    I think I missed playing Tzolk'in at the right time (also tend to mistime things when I'm playing it as well). Had I played it in 2012, I think I would have loved it, but I didn't first play it until 2018 or so. Easily my least favorite "T" game. Don't get me wrong though, I don't think it's bad, it just doesn't click for me, mostly because the building and technologies are just soooooo boring. The buildings in Tawantinsuyu and technologies in Tekhenu are infinitely more exciting.
    I quite like Zapotec. Wish the box was a little skinnier though.

    Hi guys, personally I strongly recommend sticking to especially 3 and also somewhat 4 players for Ra, as there's where it truly shines. At 5 (or 2) it's not nearly as good and entertaining.

    • @grog3514
      @grog3514 ปีที่แล้ว

      How is it at 5?

    • @coldboarded
      @coldboarded ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@grog3514 Less room to maneuver and less options to make the timing right, and Ra is even more about timing than about the auctioning; when to push for an auction with low numbers in hand, when to apply pressure on your opponents and so on.
      It's also something to be said for 5p being "perfect" in the fact every ra-tile needs to be drawn to force auctions, while at 3 and 4 it will swing more as 24 and 27 respectively of the 30 tiles are needed to reach the ending (given no early round-end with all players satisfied), so too much of applying the odds rather than puching your luck. I find the imperfect information at 3 and 4 is more satisfying. It's obviously also more waiting for your turn to draw with 4 players in between, and a wider spread of your numbers with only 3 of 16 at hand.
      I think Ra is somewhere between okay and good'ish at 5, but it's truly exceptional at 3 and really great at 4 as well.

    • @BoardGamingRamblings
      @BoardGamingRamblings  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, we played ra with 4 this time, and it needs the players to shine!
