    I don't know what it is about this video. I've seen a million similar, but the smooth water, great music choice and beautiful lighting, combined with the intimacy of a solo experience all come together to make this my number 1, mid-winter, can't wait to get back on the water video. Thank you James.

    I've been to this beautiful area only once in my life on a 3 day canoe trip. But I immediately fell in love with this peaceful place on earth. Thx for showing me this beauty again

    That was an awesome job on the video. Great editing and photography. Really impressed that you seemed to leave your ego out of it....Very hard for trippers to do that. Thanks for sharing your trip and giving us perspective of Algonquin.

    I come back to this well-made video time & again. Really captures the solo trip well, the music fits and it is an ideal length. Extra bonus that it's Algonquin!

    Love that you set it to Ben Howard! The scenery is gorgeous. We're not far from Algonquin, so this has inspired us to look into getting out there next summer. One of the best canoe tripping videos I've seen so far - thanks for sharing!

    There seems to be a lot of videos about your Algonquin park in Canada.... but your Canadian culture is different than our USA ways.... which I like 😀 Americans are spoiled and don’t appreciate what they have in their own back yards. Very beautiful video thanks for sharing.

    I just want to say that I absolutely love this video. You capture the peace, beauty and serenity of a solo trip so well with this. The footage speaks for itself without need of a play-by-play narrative. This video is almost single-handedly responsible for pushing me to go ahead and buy a canoe. While I wait for the season to start so I can make my first trip I find myself continually scouring youtube for that escape that I am so excited for, and in the back of my mind this is the video to which I find myself measuring all others. Thanks so much for sharing!

    When I saw the perfect flatwater paddling weather at the start, I just knew some rain would have to show up to make a point, lol. And when I saw the first shots of the campsite I thought, I hope he has a hammock, and of course you did. What a great presentation of the trip. That was an amazing brookie; haven't seen one that nice since on a backcountry lake above the Sand River in Lake Superior PP years ago. Thanks for introducing me to Ben Howard's music, too.

Some beautiful tools you have as well, looks like a GB axe, buck saw not sure and what's the knife a Puukko of some sort. Not the mora u used for fish though. Hope to see more :) cheers

    did anyone mention that your fish was a lake trout?
    that would be a trophy-sized brook trout. and the brook trout have more colourful speckles.
    really nice vid, though. i stayed on that same campsite on big trout lake. just beautiful.

    Really nice work on the video. The campsite with the hammock, barrel hang, etc. - was that on the point exposed to a west wind on Big Trout? Looks familiar to me as one where we got hit by a snowstorm one May a few years ago. Thunderbox on the top of the hill, if I remember correctly.

    • @jameswalford9289
      @jameswalford9289  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Martin, Thanks for the feedback! A few ppl have commented on the ‘Splake’, I should have been more specific and have since updated the blog - 4 were too small and I released back but I didn't even get the fish species right. I based this from the back of Jeff’s map but after looking on the web they were actually Lake Whitefish (Coregonus clupeaformis). Sorry for the confusion and I hope the bag limit for Lake Whitefish wasn’t less than 4!

      James Walford First off Jim I'm not giving you a hard time at all. I think your video, trip report, and adventure were awesome! Thank you for sharing. The fish in the pan do look like Whitefish or maybe Fallfish. A little hard to tell from the video. Either way you are OK with 4 :)

    Great video if I had the patience for editing I would post more of my own. Having done Algonquin numerous times I was reminded of all the gear I used to bring. Portages must have been hell. Every trip I eliminate items I don't use. All my gear now fits in one pack including food. Portages are done in one trip. My last 3 trips were solo. My first solo I used the solo canoe. Here is the video that taught me how to paddle better than most. www.nfb.ca/film/path_of_the_paddle_solo_basic/

    • @jameswalford9289
      @jameswalford9289  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I didn't have a tripod, I just strapped my GoPro onto trees or balanced on top of rocks. There is a store in Toronto called 'Canadian Outdoor Equipment Co' that makes their own bow saw’s, very good quality and makes light work of big jobs.
