we had the same thing happen two years ago and after we fixed the fence, after we had our guard dog sleep at the barn, we left our cows out another night, and it happened again. After that, we bought two sweet and lovely and amazing donkeys. PROBLEM OVER!!! Never again has anything happened. The donkeys have their open stall, and at night they become like patrol officers around the whole big field. Never again has an animal died, never again has the fence been broken or pulled, but we got to see two big coyotes dead, with their skull fractured and on them was the undeniable print of our sweet little donkeys hoofs!!! Just amazing.
^^^ This 100% A pair of Gelded Male donkeys make the best Guard team you could ever imagine. We had two and the work they did to protect our homestead was amazing.
We, as viewers, get attached, too. First, it was Figaro and now George. This is really heartbreaking. The homestead is a work in progress and its going to take time to secure everything and make it work for you as it's a huge property. We are so sorry for your loss. Take care, Gina and Al.
I lost a rooster, who was a jerk (a handsome jerk though), to stray dogs, and I cried. I can't imagine how much more devastating this is for Gina and Al.
Oh, Good Lord. I am SO very sorry for the loss of George. I hope whatever happened, he didn't suffer. Such a sweet boy. My heart is truly broken for you guys. Truly broken. It doesn't matter if they live in a barn or in your home, our animals are our children. My prayers for you both and George. God bless you all.🙏✝
George was a very fine looking Bull. So sorry for your loss, it's such a devastating thing. Seeing you and Gina standing tall and coping with this is an inspiration to us all. No one ever promised life on the homestead would be easy, it's often built with a little blood, a lot of sweat, a few tears and oh so many prayers.
When they first got Brutus my thought was , shoulda got donkeys. I really think with all the wildlife they have 1 of anything as a guard is a waste of money. Cog Hill only has 40 acres and they have 3 guard dogs and 2 donkeys. I,d say get at least 2 donkeys and 1 more dog
Absolutely get donkeys and leave their stalls open so they can get out and patrol. So sorry for your loss of a very beautiful and sweet animal to prey. I don’t believe that goose did it.
You both are very brave to put your feelings out on social media it makes it so real what happened. Be well hang in there and move on with your projects
Hi there I'm so sorry to hear about your loss of George he was a lovely looking Highland cow. I hope miles is OK and does not miss George as they are a pair 😒. Ralph in the UK
This is hard for them. I'm glad you're here on the channel to cheer them on. Set backs on their plans are always tough. I like all the support you give them Sam. Thanks.
My heart pours out to your family. I grew up with named farm animals and even though they provided many a tasty meal for us they were loved. It is a terrible loss but in Gods hands another of his creatures will fill the void. The one thing you and Gina are fantastic stewards of your land and the animals on it.
Thank you for sharing this and everything you do. It is hard, but you must show the good with the bad like you’ve always done. I, for one, appreciate the honesty.
I am sorry for both of you losing George, he was a big part of your future plans, may he RIP. I started to tear up when Gina starting crying. Look forward to each of your videos published over the years on both homesteads. Both of you have outstanding work ethics, morals, attitudes, values and principles, on how to act and set an example for your daughter and other Americans. This is lacking in America today, also in Corporate America, did 30 years, seeing what’s coming out on the Covid Virus history, etc. Think you should continue your plans and find Miles a new bull friend and continue to move forward with your previous plans. God Bless your family and the future of the United States. Sorry, I’m rambling on like the old man, I am.
Sorry for your loss. I know the loss of George was not just one bull. He encompassed such promise for the future of your herd, and your business. God will give you clarity on the next step. He has already prepared a way forward for you. Look to His will with gratitude and a sense of adventure and He will not let you down. He's got this situation and your best at heart always. In the challenges that He guides us through we learn to see things through His eyes. Sometimes it's only through thr rearview mirror that His purpose becomes clear. 🙏💜Blessings abundant for you and your family in all things in God's perfect time.💜🙏
Ah man, that’s a terrible loss, I feel for you both. I think a good walk around looking for tracks may help identify the threat and what you could possibly do about it. I grew up amongst farms and such losses do happen but that doesn’t make them any easier to take. I have seen some crusty old farmers weeping over the loss of an animal and it stirs the emotions. Take care and look after yourselves.
😢 So sorry for your loss. I was bawling right along with you, Gina. Our cows got out last night also. A neighbor found them 2 miles down the road. We were lucky and got them both back, though. Thinking of you guys and praying for you. ❤🙏❤
