I like the alley barn. It's gone, but we milked in a similar barn built in 1880 with a addition in the 1920s.
    The Finns are good people.
    This year comes with challenges.
    Thank you Dave.

Thanks. The tradition of Minnesota dairy barns is passing quickly. Happy to have one to save.

    Good morning Dave and Dawn!
Jay finally got to mow the hay here on Thursday.
On Friday morning, it rained over 2 inches.
    Wasn’t forecasted!
It’s enough to make an old sow eat her pigs!

That’s sad but that’s a great expression! We were down in LaCrosse last week and shocked to see how much cut hay was down, brown and getting rained on.

That’s a great old barn - nice job keeping it standing strong…👍

Just like us... waiting for the ground to dry up.....The hay looks great but the ground is really soft... I love your barn, built the way dairy barns should be built. Maybe you could build another storage building with rocks and concrete, God knows you've got a few rocks around...🤣🤣🤣. Thanks Dave.

    Nice, well built old barn!
Maintenance is key to everything lasting! Being used is also important! Once a building is no longer used, (with or without maintenance) they tend to deteriorate.
Easyouts can work very well.. they can make nightmares too.. but usually what we start with first.
I can hear the water as you're walking..
    Happy Heifers!!!

Thanks. The barn is historic with some function left. I could use some of your summer heat and wind right about now to fill it back up with square bales.

Them 336s are awesome balers. I wish i would have kept mine.

Thanks. We’ve had for over 20 years. 1000-1500 bales per year. Used to make a lot more. Rarely misses a bale.

Yeah, that barn loft definitely is a crown jewel. I do the same thing with the hayloft. I always try to wear a mask when I’m doing that that’s when my sinuses get clogged.

Yeah I should wear a mask…but I always forget. The dust on the floor is full of seed, great for reseeding areas that get muddy in spring.

Hope you get some dry days to make some decent hay. There's a lot of stuff out there.

We may be setting tonnage records, but not quality records. This stuff will be stemmy once we cut it.

Good morning. Almost got down to freezing here last night. I don't know when we are going to see 3 days without rain. I can get by on 2 if I make baleage out of the stuff at home but the ground needs to dry some even for that.

Long range looks good for four days of sun starting July 8th.

Thanks. We see it as our responsibility to the neighborhood to keep the farm as good as we found it cared for by the original family that owned it.

Yup the conundrum now is laying a big swath on a wet ground
