This was the first Dylan song I really liked when I was a kid, laughed so hard when I realized what is was about when I was older

Back when I first got into Dylan, this song was the capstone of that album, the first one i bought after my friend died . Something really spoke to me in this song and album when nothing else in the world did

Hellyeah! One of the clear highlights on "JWH."
My Aunt has this great story of meeting her (future) husband, a longhaired 70s prairie hippie, and how he knew every verse of this track by heart and could sing and play it faithfully on guitar. He proceeded to play it to the complete mystification of her(/my) large German Catholic family when she brought him home to meet them lol

You almost had it: "All except the little neighbor boy (narrator) who carried him to rest/And he just walked along the road, with his guilt so well concealed/And muttered underneath his breath, nothing is revealed."
That's the answer: he is not telling you the answer. Ees funny!

This song gives me an A24 folk horror vibe. Don’t ask me to explain further

Think of Frankie lee as a lost man and Judas Priest as the devil.

My interpretation of this song, is its simply meaningless and funny. The ending where he goes "well the moral of this story... the moral of this song" almost sounds like hes trying to figure out any meaning for it, but cant. I see it as less of he knows the moral, but hes rhetorically responding to the listeners question on what the moral is. "Well the moral of this story? The moral of this song?" its just a kind of meandering, meaningless, yet funny tale
