Toi, le cœur de la rose was always one of my favourite parts but "Tes yeux bleus..." always gets me the hardest... This gorgeous descent after singing high notes is impeccable!
I’ve been going through and listening to EVERY SINGLE piece that we have of Ravel’s published oeuvre. If you want some of his more obscure repertoire, might I suggest these: “Frontispiece” for Piano 5 Hands. It’s as close to Atonality as Ravel ever gets. Very Messiaen / Ligeti-sounding! It definitely showcases Ravel’s love for Schoenberg’s music. “Histoires Naturelles" - A beautiful song Cycle Piano Trio in A Minor “Scheherazade” - inspired by Rimsky-Korsakov!
Thanks a million for your hard work!!! This opera by Ravel is the best piece of art after civilization. An incredible encyclopedia from all epochs of music by the magical mind and interpretation of Ravel. The reason for the five dislikes only God may know...
I think the oboists were using circular breathing. Basically they suck in some air, play as usual, but when the air begins to run out, they store the air by the sides of the mouth, contract the cheeks to push the air into the instrument while at the same time breathing in a fresh batch of air. Hopefully this explains it 😅
The way she songs she sounds like a kid. The technique in the fire is nice, but it is way too squeaky for the princess. This is probably an old recording. In today's opera this would probably not be considered good singing.
@@akherousia I absolutely love it. As the fire, she shines especially in those really high notes with the flutes. But as the princess, Sylvaine Gilma sounds so pure and innocent because of how light her vibrato is-personally, i think it enables listeners like me to more clearly discern what notes are being sung.
@@andrewfortmusic I so agree with you! I find Sylvaine Gilma's voice perfect in the fire! I have never heard one so beautiful. For me, this recording of 1961 is absolutely fantastic. All the voices are wonderful. I've had the CD for a long time and I still listen to it with great pleasure! An anthology version...

One of my favorite build-ups and climax's in classical music... the clarinet arpeggios at 18:25 and the piccolo/flutes at 18:52 is breathtaking, as with all of Ravel!

Why have I been listening to Ravel for the last 30 years of my life, and only just today discovered this absolute gem?
It's never too late my friend!!

@@Hailey_Paige_1937thank you so much for these recommendations! Ravel is my absolute favourite composer and i didn’t know about this song cycle! 💗
This is the greatest composition of all time. No music can ever touch this

7:56 I really love the duet of Theiere and Tasse Chinoise
Thank you for posting this video ❤
You're welcome!! One of Ravel's masterpieces, and this duo certainly one of my favorite parts!!
@@jalesait7836 love that english tho 😂😂😂😂
Outrageous writing for 2 oboes at the opening - 2 minutes without a single break! Maybe they used 3 oboes in a relay... ;-)

What a glorious work by Ravel; he has proven once again to be a master or harmony.
Not only harmony my friend.
Scriabin was much better with harmony. Ravel is good for other aspects.
No words for the genius of Ravel.
For sixty years I 've got to know this LORIN MAAZEL-Performance (1961). I was surprised to hear it again now. For me a real CLASSIC!!
Those time signatures, holy!
Ravel był mistrzem i geniuszem muzyki
9:00 trombone solo
The music for the introduction also gives me Mulan vibes, with how the oboe sounds
Thank you so much. Do you happen to have times each song begins? It would be so helpful!
Thank you! I've included time marks on the description, so you can go to each part by clicking at them.
The "Enfant" music is pure Tom & Jerry :-DD
The voice of the fire is very accurate! Sounds like a young woman.

The fire music gives me vibes to Mozart’s The Magic Flute
Coloratura. Sopranos who sing Ravel's Le feu, sing The Queen of the Night, too.
The opening is very reminiscent of Stravinsky's opening to The Nightingale.
4:30 how on earth does he get the piano to sound like that
It has an inner 'attachment' or mechanism called a Luthéal.
paper in the strings can also be used I believe
THE CLARINETS MADE ME CRY 😭 THE KEY SIGNATURE IS HARD TO READ AND ORCHESTRATE
anyways good performance ❤
greetings from Philippines :)
The princess music gives off a very Disney-esque vibe
Jane Berbie, Senechal, Gilma, Maazel najlepsze nagranie w historii DG

Hi, it's the R.T.F. National Orchestra conducted by Lorin Maazel.
polecam również nagranie DECCA Ansermet i Suzanne Danco, Marie Lise de Mountmoullin, Flora Wend dwa naljlepsze w XXw. zrealizowane nagrania idealne

8:27 celesta concerto in g presto ?
Doesn’t it sound kind of like Snow White or Sleeping Beauty?
12:28 best part
Is it just me, or does some of the background score in a few parts kinda give off a Winnie the Pooh vibe?
The background music for the first 2 parts in the beginning sounds like Winnie the Pooh or Homeward Bound as well
The background music for the shepherds’ music sounds like Winnie the Pooh or Homeward Bound music
I really dont understand why Ravel chose to insert the 5 sharp key signature at the bedinning of a chromatic scream at 24:23 .....
Magnificant
