What a genius Ravel was! This is truly a concerto for the orchestra as much as the piano, with all those incredible solos, from harp to English horn. Along with Tchaikovsky and Rimsky-Korsakov, Ravel was surely one of the greatest masters of orchestration: such astonishingly vivid colors, soundscapes otherworldly and whimsical. Everyone talks about the beauty of the second movement, but I find the thrilling sense of motion in the first and third movements just as impressive---especially the first, with the seamless changes from fast and driving to slow and languorous. I'm more amazed by this piece each time I listen to it.
One of the best piano concertos I have ever listened! And Zimmerman also one of the best pianists ever! I love this very accurate staccato in toccata-like moments, and there is a beautiful voicing in cadenza, amazing trills. And also this perfect glissando at 6:28!!! My ears are in paradise 😊 P.S. I will play it in this year undoubtedly :)
your the guy that puts comically loud outro music in his composition videos. is that like a way to keep people listening to your music in the foreground??
