    It's good to see more people coming on the game so good idea to go back to the basics. If you get a chance would be interested in a video on yaw when using teleport

      Oh yes, yaw. I do have something on vectors coming up. I've left it a bit because its a bit niche. I'll be sure to pop something in about yaw. Might do it in the next couple of weeks if I get chance. Got something else I want to get done first then that one.

    does crossplay work on the portal servers to? i tried to make the setup without to find something about it...

    • @BattlefieldDad
      @BattlefieldDad  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, crossplay does work with portal servers. Done it many times. However, depending on the server you set up and the settings they can sometimes end up hidden. Look under custom and try searching by the name you gave the experience. It's not always obvious where your experience went if I'm honest - but it will be there somewhere if its running, and crossplay does work.

    Do you need to link psn accounts to ea account?

    • @BattlefieldDad
      @BattlefieldDad  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes if you want to see your experiences in the game to host them.
      You dont 'have' to link the accounts.
      You can host a server directly through the game if you just want a standard set up and don't want to go through the portal website.
      However, if you want to set up an experience through the portal website you do need an EA account but you can host your experience on playstation by entering the experience code generated.
      But really, the best way to go about it is to link your accounts so you can host the experiences you have set up through the portal site through the host option in game without any additional hassle.
      As always the choice is yours, but I'd just link the accounts and remove any hassle.

    • @BattlefieldDad
      @BattlefieldDad  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi buddy, sorry for the very late reply. Just to clarify for anyone who needs it and yourself, locked weapons can be 'given' to players through the logic editor (so if they have not unlocked the weapon in game you can use the logic editor to replace the players primary weapon with the locked weapon) but you cannot make it selectable by them through the game. The giving weapons to players has been used in games like gun roulette where the game cycles through weapons and the player does not choose their own. This overcomes the problem of the game mode needing the player to have a certain weapon but they have not unlocked it but still makes sure that access to the weapon through the menu remains restricted if its not unlocked. I'm not a big fan of locking weapons behind progression/battle passes and would prefer to have seen weapons never locked for anyone, but this is what we are stuck with for now.

    So im making a game mode in Portal and after sometime once i save it, it all disappears and you don't know until you refresh the page it'll show it saved successfully even when it didn't. So i have to have 2 tabs open to portal and after each save i have to refresh the second page and make sure its there. All of the code is gone even the mod block. Luckily i can copy and paste it with the shortcut not sure what causes it or why it happens but its annoying.

    • @BattlefieldDad

      Sorry for the long long wait for a reply. Due to the way Portal works its not totally advisable to have two different windows open. This generally happens for a couple of reasons (although I wouldnt rule out others). The main one is where you lose connection to the server while working on your experience - this is more of a potential issue if you switch away from one portal tab for an extended period. Then a couple of things can happen - the page auto refreshes when you try to do something but comes back with a blank page. If you have saved prior to that, the safest option is to try going back in the browser and if that doesnt work and you had saved it prior, go back and reload from the experience screen where you should get back up to your last save. I try to save very often so if there is a problem like that I dont lose everything. If you do not save the experience when the screen is blank then you will be able to go back. The worst thing that happens is when you save but then the screen refreshes because it lost contact and then it reloads blank and saves over your original - that is VERY annoying but thankfully it is rare. It is all mostly related to lost connections and reconnecting.
      I now use a plug in which connects to github which saves everything to github and backs up as I go to prevent any of these issues. If you have no experience of github and want to do more work in Portal I do recommend getting and installing the plug in and setting up a github account - it is actually fantastic for keeping work safe.
      If my day job ever dies down I will look at giving a bit of a guide to this.
      You will need this plug in
      github.com/LennardF1989/BF2042-Portal-Extensions
      and this one
      github.com/The0zzy/bf2042-portal-github-plugin
      plus a github account if you want to have a look.

    @BattlefieldDad how do you make sure in vehicle deathmatch that ai only spawn in vehicles and not spawn with guns?

    • @BattlefieldDad
      @BattlefieldDad  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry for the really very late reply and also if this reply is no longer relevant but just in case you still want to know....in theory I can think of a workaround that 'might' work but that it would still be very difficult to achieve and even if it did work it would be pretty impractical in the game itself to play. The reason is mainly because AI are quite difficult to work with and control over vehicles is very limited. I know that isnt exactly the answer you might be looking for. I'd have to have a play around to see what might work tbh as there are several problems to tackle to make that work and even if it did it would be a real fudge. The best solution that comes to mind would be to force everyone to only be able to spawn in vehicles, and as they spawn, set a player variable that tracks the vehicle and seat they were in. Then, if they are AI and they change seat or attempt to exit the vehicle then you would force them back to the original seat and vehicle. That is all doable (in theory) but would need a reasonable amount of coding to make it work.

    Greetings! I would really, really like to make a server with normal breakthrough mode. By normal, I mean a breakthrough with the presence of jets and attack helicopters, especially with a nightbird. As far as I understand, this can only be done through the reworking of the team deathmatch mode in the rule editor. Perhaps there is a video on your channel based on which I could do this? Because my upbringing does not allow me to ask for help creating this server step by step. Thank you!

    • @BattlefieldDad
      @BattlefieldDad  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, nothing custom required anymore...breakthrough was added to the standard core game modes just recently and is good to go pretty much straight out of the box. I haven't done a video on this (yet 😀) but its easy enough to do if you want to have a play around. Here is a link to one I have set up you can use with everything in it. If you duplicate it you can change it as you wish. You just need to go through each of the options and change whatever you want - as it is everything is included - jets, helis, tanks, you name it.

Unfortunately, lately I have had a lot of work and I could not only answer you, but also try the mode that you created. About a month ago, maybe a little less, I found out that a breakthrough mode was added to the Portal constructor and, naturally, I ran to make the option that I needed so much.
      Unfortunately, I didn’t succeed, I’m talking about the ability to play not only on 2042 maps, although I would like to use the old ones, but also on 2042 vehicles, no matter how bad some of them were, I was a pilot in the fifth battlefield))) Whatever I tried, although I tried not so much, i.e. I chose the default mode, respectively, failure, I chose the 2042 mode, selected all possible vehicles - failure, indicated absolute default values: removed the ability to crawl away when mortally wounded, gave the vehicle the ability to regenerate health, lowering it to default values (1), set the standard time respawn delays, removed bots. I denied myself everything except flying attacking vehicles, and still nothing came of it. Today I tried to use your settings... and I failed again))))) Probably no one likes to look stupid, but I consider this moment as a kind of growth point and I would be incredibly grateful to you for pointing out my mistake.
      Sincerely, Papadeus!

    Hello

    • @BattlefieldDad
      @BattlefieldDad  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you and sorry for it taking so long to get back to you. Depends what you mean by add ons to be honest. If you are new to portal and programming in general then making something like that may be quite difficult. Portal is very very flexible and you can make a lot of different games with it but some are more difficult to do than others. I don't know if you have watched my intro videos but that might be a good place to start. Questions I would ask to start off with:
      How does a player win?
      Is it a team game or free for all?
      How do players 'get addons' (do they pick them up, are they given them automatically, do they have to earn them and how)
      What add ons do they get? In what order? Do some cost more than others? Do they appear randomly..
      ...etc
      As you can see there is a lot of thinking that needs to happen before you start making. But it is possible.
      A quick note on addons - you are limited with what you can give a player - so you do not have control over attachments (at least not yet!)

    @peterclarke8653 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hello Battlefield Dad, I hope you see this comment. If not I will probably comment in your next video because you are good at responding! Would the following game mode be possible:
    M-Conquest
    M-COM stations in place of capture flags.
    M-COM stations start neutral (or any team), at the start of the game when a player reaches an M-COM station that does not have explosives currently planted the M-COM station changes to the team opposite them so they can plant explosives.
    Once explosives are planted the timer counts down - ie 30 second timer on M-COM station counts down, when it has 1 second left it stops counting down and changes sides to the team of the player who planted the bomb.
    At this point the M-COM is controlled by that players team like a flag with it awarding points to the team in intervals like a flag - ie 1 point every 5 seconds.
    The enemy team can capture it by planting explosives and then the same thing will happen - upon counting down to 1 second left it swaps to their side and they start getting points.
    The idea is the M-COM station is used in place of flags with the countdown timer being the capturing timer.
    When the points on one side gets to 500, they win. So instead of counting down points it counts up.
    Benefits-
    If AI attack / defend custom M-COM's then this will work with AI, whilst other custom capture areas do not work with AI.
    M-COM stations / count downs will appear on the map, so there isn't much that is required UI wise.
    Easy system once set up - M-COMs can be placed in different maps quite easily rather than having to set up lots of custom capture zone polygons.
    Issues-
    Not sure if it is possible to get a selectable spawn area. As in, you can teleport a player on spawn based M-COM's currently captured.
    However, I'd like a system where you can select a point on the map.
    The easiest solution for some selectable spawns I can think of is using vehicles set to infinite health, that anyone can spawn on - ie CAV brawler, and also disabled from moving.
    So these would spawn in a location near the M-COM for the team that currently has it "captured" (as in points ticking up after planting bomb and M-COM swapping sides at 1 second left).
    However, I can't figure out a way to control the CAV spawn timing / location - although I think you can teleport vehicles by teleporting the player driving the vehicle.

      Hi, I do try to reply to all comments but sometimes don't always see replies immediately. New comments I get highlighted but replies aren't as obvious. As for the details in your mode, the short answer is, yes, that is 'mostly' possible. The details about the MCOMS is all doable, along with scoring etc.
      There would be a few things to iron out - for example the explosive - would that be something that was picked up or would it work as it does in rush, so just arming it would work (that is easier btw).
      The only more complicated aspect is the spawning as you have mentioned. You dont need to have objectives active to allow them to be spawned on - so it is possible to allow spawning on objectives without having them active as capture points - although who would spawn where might be a bit more difficult. The vehicles sounds like a good idea in principle, but you cannot currently 'force spawn' a vehicle. You can move a vehicle once its spawned but you cannot spawn them - they need to be spawned in (if you have vehicles set to spawn on the map in the settings you do get a selection of vehicles on some maps/modes, but I dont know the details of all of those and its not really something you can rely on ) This is something that has been requested (more control over vehicles in general) but as it is thats not possible. There are lot of game modes that have wanted to use force spawned vehicles that currently cant happen. If you are ever able to then your idea for spawning is possible. If it were me, for now, i'd keep the mode small (so smaller maps/less players) to mitigate the spawn issues - you could always expand later.
      I can think of some hacky ways to get spawns working, for example if if you wanted to have just one spawn location at a time for each team you could set that as a vector which you could change depending on the position of the MCOM. When someone spawns in just teleport them to that position. I don't know if that makes sense but its not too difficult if you only have one spawn position per team (which can change location but theres always only one location). You could have more than one per team but then you wont have a way of selecting the spawn point. I don't know if that makes any sense but simply to say it's doable if a bit hacky.

      @@BattlefieldDad Hello Battlefield Dad thanks for your comment. Essentially the intention is to set something up to work as close to Conquest as possible whilst allowing me to have custom locations for "flags" which in this mode would be done with M-Com's. I would use the system you had set up in a video previously with proper capture boundaries, however I want to make sure AI can react. From what I understand AI do react to custom M-Com's. I've played a couple "zombie co-op" modes using M-Com's in custom locations with everything being done through the logic editor and the AI did seem to run for the M-Com's when armed.
      Regarding arming, whether there is an explosive, it is better if there isn't, unless this will remove the count down which is meant to be the flag capture time.
      Regarding spawning, this is the part I don't know how to resolve exactly - the main issue being having multiple selectable spawns on the map.
      There was a custom game mode that I played previously (a number of patches ago) which did have a system for selecting different spawn points - you would spawn at main base but walk up to an icon at the main base which would appear if you held a flag. Walking into this icon would teleport you near that flag. The problem with this system is I want something that AI will be able to use - hence spawning from vehicles makes sense. I guess you could have it work so that the game just teleports AI near a random flag - so they aren't selecting it, but the AI get evenly spread out based on flags currently held.

    • @BattlefieldDad
      @BattlefieldDad  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry it took a while to reply - I am very busy at work at the moment. The idea of using MCOMS as flags is an interesting one...great idea for encouraging the AI to head to them. I like that! The video I did on cap points is mostly redundant now - but was interesting to do so this sounds like a good plan you have.
      The spawning is difficult. Again sounds like the person who came up with the icons to transport a player to a spawn point had a good plan. It just wouldnt be possible to do anything from the spawn screen (that I can think of). Again I think the idea of spawning on a random flag for AI seems sound enough to me. AI are a big problem when it comes to getting them to do anything custom at all.
      I'm not sure I've got time to look at your problem in any detail at the moment I'm sorry, but what I will say is it sounds to me like you've got a really good idea what you want and some good ideas on how to do it - which for me is half of the problem! I often have to make small changes to my designs/plans to allow for things that cant be done - concessions just to make it work. Good luck with it. Let me know how you get on!
