Boy does that knife bring back memories! Good to learn about those screw jack threads. I have one that was in my father's cellar, I'll have to check it out.
Great video John, I saw that big soldering iron and what a beauty it is. A lot of blokes just think if you need a soldering iron that big then use a flame but even a big iron can concentrate the heat with out damaging the surrounding material so much better than even a fine flame. Something I have noticed with things like Evaporust is there is a small window of time where the rust is removed but the metal hasn’t gone black yet. I love the videos of these shows and thanks for taking us along. I’m looking forward to some of the restorations. Cheers mate, Stuart 🇦🇺
Wow! Did that Black & Decker bring back memories. I still remember that sound they made. It was strange but when you squeezed the paddle & the motor took off, I smelled the ozone gas those thing used to emit from the arching of the brushes. Thanks for the memories.
The Girl Scout knife looks terrific. The embellished knives at the beginning of the video are amazing. Simple tools used, but with a lot of skill, creativity and time. Really well done. Glad he showed these to you. Dave.
I have been watching your videos for several years, and now I am about to retire from teaching and have started to make my own small shop in my house. I have been watching, and learning so much from you, and am ready to start to put to use some of your teachings. I am just starting out, getting little by little but have the basics so far, will do a tour as soon as I finish. Just wanted to say thank you and thanks for the motivation.
Caution for anyone cleaning up a girl scout knife like this one. I bought one for my daughter who earned the Gold award. After cleaning the knife and sharpening it, I applied acetone to remove fingerprints and any oil residue. The green comes from a thin layer of paint under the clear scales. Acetone nicely removed all of the green paint, ruining the knife. I had to gently pry off the scales and apply some thinned out green spray paint and reattach the scales. It was OK, but not nearly as nice as it would have been if I had avoided the acetone.
Hey John, I collect knives and wanted to let you know, one of the best things you can do to clean up a old knife is to soak it in mineral oil over night. The oil will loosen up everything and lube the blades for you. Also it's safe so you don't have to worry about getting it on anything when you prepare food or whatever. Later
It's so funny, Last week I bought a wood carver vice and the person had it in a bag with some other items she threw in, and one of the items was a Girl Scout pocket knife and it needs a clean-up too.
I love when you take us along to the tool shows. I still have my girl scout knife like that. Have had it for about 60 years. The ring on the end needs the rivet peened over, but otherwise it's in great shape.
Looks like you had a great time! Thank You for sharing it to all us who live to far away to go. Looks like you have plenty of future projects coming our way. 😃
I like that black and decker right angle drill. That's messed up that guy did flipping the clamps you let him buy. With the drilling hammer, one guy was hourly, the other guy was paid by the piece. That is a neat idea for the plane.
That looks like a nice get together. I have the screw jacks as well. If I can find them for $10-$15. Mostly $10. I clean them, grease the screw with synthetic grease and paint them usually black as I have it on the shelf. At the beginning of the video was that a Coleman single burner? I don't think I have seen one in a little suitcase style. Those brother's tables had those gray boxes brought back memories of having to empty everything from my pockets in to one plus my boots before going through a metal detector every time I left the building.
That nice soldering iron jumped out at me, I'm glad you picked it up......Those screw jacks really do work well, we moved a huge block wall that got smashed out about a foot back into position with them........We seemed to be one of the few companies that knew how to move walls back into position without tearing down and rebuilding.
Hi John. I always like when you go to those shows. I love that old battery box. Can't wait to see it all fixed up. You sure made out well at that show. Some great finds. I like your advice on the threads on a screw jack.always learn something. You have a great day. 👍👍❤😊...
Those engraved knifes are just fantastic! Beautiful work that feller does!! The bell system stuff is always cool to find.. like that stamp! And the GS knife came out great...in on your side with the color of that! Good stuff, Mr. John! Always is!
great fun to watch scout. love the Girl Scout knife. used to be an amateur knife maker but my wife wouldn’t let me set up a forge in our dining room. she said it didn’t look good when company came. go figure women !
Great weather you're having. We just survived two HOT days last week. Heat indexes triple digits. Even our little wild critters seemed hunkered down during the day.
Great video 👍 The Long Island tool meet had a lot of awesome deals. I know you said you don’t buy 💵 tools 🛠 anymore 😂😂but the ones you purchased are pretty cool especially that soldering iron and that old vintage wooden plane. I have two of those Klein tools hex-a-matic nut driver tools and they are pretty nice to use and come in pretty handy. I bought them early 2000’s something, wonder if they were made by Stanley tools? That Vulcan screw jack you purchased looks fantastic, that will be a good video for the show 👍👍. That Green handled Girl Scout pocket knife you cleaned up turned out fantastic. I like the green handle knife also, that is a cool color on a pocket knife. That 🦡 opossum looked like he was hungry. Well again great video and can’t wait to see what you do on Wednesday. Have a great evening. 😄👍👍
Im in roanoke va, and we have a main hub of norfolk southern rail systems in downtown. I see a lot of old tools marked , but usually from the predessessor norfolk and western. Apparently railroads used those old screw jacks for engines or cars, those things are huge. See them in antique shops around town and I'd love to have one, but im betting they are heavier than an anvil. Hope i can find a smaller one some day. Gorl scout knife turned out great. Too bad girls arent interested in that much now a days. Kudos from the south.
Hey!! Stick that fish tank warmer in the evaporust and warm it up before and during use. If it is somewhat fresh it will work twice as fast! I use a heater with my citric when I’m in a hurry also. It really works great! Thanks for the video sir!!
I need to make it out to one of your meets. I have that B&D drill you had at the beginning. Got it around '89 and used the heck out of it. The paddle switch is a game changer. At the time there were really only 2 options for electric right angle drills that one and the Sioux which was bulky, not really a right angle (more like 45) had a weird switch and cost about twice the B&D price. I still have it and will use it from time to time. It really is a good thing that you stopped buying tools. 😄
Thanks scoutcrafter for the awesome video my grandson and I and the whole family are up North in Minnesota what you and New York would call upstate so I kind of forgot about watching your Monday video and then my grandson Landon said hey bump pa we forgot to watch scout crafter so I got my phone out and we watched your latest oh yeah we also stopped at a garage sale and picked up a dollar tin snips
Some fantastic stuff scout I would go crazy at the show if I was there some great tools those clamps were really cool would have been nice to see them cleaned up god bless take care 🇳🇿🇺🇸🗽🪖45
Looks like a great show John, that vintage right angle drill with the paddle is a peach, I've never seen one of those before, sounds great too ! I'm always on the lookout for Stanley 100s I used to buy them one at a time back in the 80s as they were always pricey for me, but wish I'd managed to get more before they were discontinued in the UK ! The little screw jack that is frozen would make a good door stop! If it is really stuck forever, you should go full Scoutcrafter on that. That would be something new! I bet you could come up with something cool to do to it. What do you think? 🤔🤔😉😁👍
Great video, again!.. love that you stopped buying tools...haha. I'm not too far from Smithtown L.I....Can anyone join the Long Island Tool Collectors Club? is there a website?

Hello Scout, with that stuck screw jack, you could try electrolysis on it. I assure you that it will work as long as you perform it long enough. It needs to be at least 2 weeks ( not 2 hours or over night). Battleships use electrolysis 24/7/365 year after year after year.

Nice, rear axle, hub puller seen at 05:37 for a fair price of $55.00. Thanks for the tour of the tool show!
All good stuff. I agree, that Girl Scout knife turned out great, like that camp knife style knife.
I have the same knife but it is the Boy Scout version. I am cleaning it also, when I have free time.

Your right Mineral oil is fantastic for so many things! You can dilute it with mineral sprits! 😃👍
Thanks for the thread diagram; as a book press collector, I thought that acme and square threads were the same thing.
They are close! It’s amazing how well and smooth they work! 😃👍
FINE meet and saw Mike looking or setting up. The Girl Scout knife was BEAUTIFUL and I like the green too. Happy week and God Bless Yall!
