- MK1 has a lot of rage quitters. I think I'm about 30/30 W/L in ranked right now, and have seen at least 3 rage quitters so 1 in 10 wins is a rage quit lol. The last match against the subzero was pretty laggy so he may have just quit because of that, though that was not my fault on my wired connection he can blame his wifi for the rage quit lol. anyways having a ton of fun in MK1 especially with Baraka, having mained him in MK11 its awesome to see him doing so well in MK1.

i remember growing up with MK back in 92 ect
i like the movies and i like the series
i wanna get this game but ive never purchased a fighting game
my fear is that its too intricate for me to enjoy repeatedly
can you please offer a newb some insight as to the learning curve
like will i have to pause and study the move list for each player to actually enjoy ?
when i play, i expect to play on easy...id rather have fun and win then get whipped and continue to die but im just asking if the game becomes repetitive or will a newb be able to pick up and play and enjoy playing ??

Hey man, good question. I'll be honest with you, there is a ton of single player content to bite you teeth into. However if you want to play online ranked or kasual matches it will take a bit of practice and learning otherwise you will most likely get stomped and not enjoy it so much.
Single player, has a great story mode to play through. You can just watch the whole thing on TH-cam now but it's still fun to play. You have invasion mode to play though, which can be fun and boring lol, but plenty of matches to be had for practice on getting a feel for movement and combos.
The training / tutorial mode is decent it tells you what you need to know and how to play. But you'll still have to actually learn about frame data, which for new players is probably the most confusing part.
The gameplay is tricky to learn as for as movement and combo timing, at least it was a little weird for me after playing SF6, very different style.
Learning a fighting game is a tough task not going to lie, though it is one the most rewarding experiences in gaming. When you finally understand how to read others and mix people up get in their heads. It just takes a lot of practice. So yeah if really want to get into it you'll have to study and learn your character(s) first and foremost, then you'll start learning other characters combo strings and when to block high / low and then your best possible option to punish after a you blocked a hit. The best way to get this experience is to study videos of others playing and just playing yourself. Losing and learning from your mistakes and why you lost is part of the game.
Final note. Mk1 is a lot of fun one of the better mortal kombats in the franchise. It does have some technical issues but it sounds like Netherealm is addressing these issues so hopefully the game only continue to improve. If you're a fan of the series and just want to have fun it's a good time to jump in. It's a lot of fun with friends too.

Oh yeah as a side note DO NOT buy MK1 on PC or Switch. Switch version is complete trash if you haven't heard yet, and pc has a lot of performance issues. I bought it originally on steam and just under 2 hours of playing and adjusting settings my 3080 couldn't keep a constant 60 fps, had to get a refund and bought it on ps5 because it was just not realistically playable on PC sadly. Plus there's no cross play right now so PC player base is significantly smaller than ps5

tbh game would be leagues more fun if not everyone played the tier list with baraka cyrax

My guy I've been waiting over a decade for baraka to be viable and important, I've been maining him since mk2 so I can't wait to get my combos down and terrorize online lol whatever the best loadout is will be used.

good thing I don't play him to win, I play him because he's fun and I've been playing Baraka since MK2, its just nice that he's finally an S tier character
