SMS Lines - Switching with a PRR Baldwin DS44-1000 in 2021

  • My first bit of buffing for 2021 was a quick trip across the Delaware River to Southern New Jersey to catch a few shots of SMS doing some work around the Pureland Industrial Complex in Logan, NJ. Making my trip over on a Saturday, 1/9, I knew it wouldn't be as busy of a day as it would be during the week for the railroad, but something would be going on. After driving in circles for a while and getting ready to thrown in the towel and take the L, I stumbled upon them as they shoved back to the park from the CSAO interchange. The railroad is known for its fleet of Baldwins and a couple GE B23-7,s but today's power of choice was SLRS DS44-1000 9069, which rocks a solid prototypical replica of the locomotive's first owner, the Pennsylvania Railroad. We see the engine switching tank cars around at Sharptown Road and Pedricktown Road before they called it a day, and I headed home. Not bad for a late start to my day.
    Thanks for watching!

Hearing that Baldwin working brings back fond memories of PRR Baldwin powered branch line trains where I lived back in my teens in the 1960s. I actually got to ride in some of them when invited up into the cab by the friendly PRR crew. Glad this one has been well preserved.

Super vid Dan, only if there were more 40ft boxcars and triple dome tank cars it would actually feel like a warp back in time.

Thanks bud! True, but seeing the old power handling modern rolling stock is a sight of its own

If you're able to keep tabs on the railroad I'd keep an eye on it because they may have a steam engine pulling Freight soon

I can't believe that a Pennsy engine is still operating over 50 years after the railroad's end. I hope they donate it to the Railroad Museum of PA when its service life ends!

Owners of SMS are hard core train buffs. They even plan on having a steam engine in their route.

Long time since I've seen a Baldwin running, Gulf Coast Chapter NRHS owns a DS 4-4-750 formerly Texas Mexican RR second generation diesel. ( Motor still would run last time I saw it, but since the museum closed, has been stored at a warehouse complex, pending new museum location. Photos of it at at Gulf Coast Chapter NRHS web page and Facebook page. 🤠
