My granddad Edward Bryant, from Folcroft, was a draftsman at Baldwin in the 1930s. Thanks for the great video.

Remington Arms had a plant next to Baldwin and produced rifles in Eddystone during WWI, Baldwin did not.

In a nutshell, Baldwin was a steam locomotive manufacturer. When diesel technology was inescapable, they tried their hand at building Diesels. The last diesel was built in 1956 and it went downhill from there.

My aunt Mary Nolan (born 1900) spent almost all her long working life as a secretary in that building.

Matthias Baldwin was great x 6 or 7 uncle of mine, I'd have to look at my genealogy research to know for sure how many generations back .

I'm trying to find out where on Broad Street in Philadelphia was the Baldwin locomotive plant located. By the picture that they just showed it had 435 on the picture but no Street . If that was North Broad that would be right above Vine Street . I could not find any information online so if anyone knows I would appreciate it. My guess would have been up near Lehigh or Sedgley and Broad Street. Thanks
    Edit
I found an historical marker at 19th and Hamilton Street which would coincide with the address on Broad Street. It was on 17 Acres and before it moved to Eddystone it encompassed 39 buildings and employed 15000 workers.
If you would like to view this historical marker yourself just Google Baldwin locomotive works historical marker Philadelphia. Take care

Very informative video and to agree with another commenter, Baldwin's diesel venture didn't go well for the company is my understanding that their diesels are what killed the company.

ONE OF THE PROBLEMS BALDWIN DIESEL LOCOMOTIVES HAD WAS USING WESTINGHOUSE TRACTION GENERATORS AND MOTORS!!
SHOULD HAVE STUCK WITH GENERAL ELECTRIC COMPONENTS FROM THE START!!!
ALSO BALDWIN RESISTED THE CHANGE TO DIESELS QUITE VIGOROUSLY, AND HAD TO LITTLE, TOO LATE!!

But Baldwin's last locomotive was built in 1956 whereas Alcos last locomotive was built in 1969.
