That is EXACTLY what he does. What a great way to articulate it. I attended a show last month and it blew my mind to the point of tears -- big, great, sorrowful tears -- and it was a catharsis of the best kind. What beauty, grace, and POETRY.
I saw him in Chicago front row, opening for Eddie Vedder, and half through this song, he started crying. One of the most spiritual things I've ever seen. One of the most underrated songwriters of this generation.
As a man, I can confirm he's not only singing about a breakup. He's also portraying how and what men feel during a breakup. Crushing and overwhelming loss. Not many songs have the ability, to transfer you back to the emotions felt at a particular time. This song, unfortunately has that innate ability, beautifully written and magically performed.
Oh my god this is amazing. I just feel the extreme emotion because that's amazing because glen hansard sings with extreme passion which is what I can only listen to. Glen hansard is better than all the other singers out in the world. Nobody is as good as glen hansard because he's simply the best he's better than all the rest
Woo! I saw him for the first time in Once. A wonderful, moving film with wonderful, moving music. I have the soundtrack and get chills every time on a lot of the tracks.
Glen you truly are mind blowing. This song freezes me in a place I once was and it just is fantastic mate. credit to you Glen you are right up there for me with so many of your wonderful songs. Poetry in motion.
i’m crying in the club rn jk i’m in quarantine because of corona but when i was little me and my family went to see once in the theatre i loved it so much i forced my family to come with me to see it again. I used to cry my eyes out listening to this song lmao
I can't wait forever is all that you said Before you stood up And you won't disappoint me I can do that myself But I'm glad that you've come Now if you don't mind Leave, leave, And free yourself at the same time Leave, leave I don't understand, you've already gone And I hope you feel better Now that it's out What took you so long And the truth has a habit Of falling out of your mouth But now that it's come If you don't mind Leave, leave And please yourself at the same time Leave, leave, Let go of my hand You said what you have to now Leave, leave Let go of my hand You said what you came to now Leave, leave Leave, leave Let go of my hand You said what you have to now Leave, leave..
+Mitch Barron It's also part of the character of the Guy in Once, the musical that it's from. (that's literally his name in the program, they never did names). At the beginning of the show, he comes into a bar a couple months after his girlfriend breaks his heart and leaves for New York, and his guitar is all scratched up as if he's been killing his guitar by strumming and singing since music is his escape from the emotions. That's also generally what the song is about. Especially at the end of the song, he's starting to lose control of his ability to think straight and in the show, at the end of this song he breaks down crying.
It was raining like a bitch this day... This was a free gig in the park so these people just gathered around. It wasnt a major festival or something.. And dont be so hasty people.. This icelandic race is the most beautiful on the planet! all this from an irish fella.
Every guitar has a soul....and every guitarist who picks up a guitar has a different chemistry with it. Some guitars are dying to spring out songs and others are not so helpful. Takamine guitars are pretty good. Was good enough for Jerry Garcia. Just a FYI for those who do not play an instrument. It's very different from scratching, spitting and DJing - - not trying to offend any DJ's.
Again and again, that feel.. I'm not alone, there's no leave about n my relationship but that feel... ps1: check his guitar. natural... ps2: closed eyes = feel (meant)
@kuiyuanyuan Check it out. 1:23 - 1:29.... Middle guy takes a swig, guy behind him exhales after a puff, guy behind him takes a swig as well....I wonder how long that goes on for, haha.
@rockston11 ? Just drinking and smoking while enjoying the music. I The guy who took the swig in the middle did it while bouncing to the music, left and right...^^ Don't think they seems bored.
I've seen Glen live twice. He sings "like his life depends on it."
Bruce S thats why i love him!!
That is EXACTLY what he does. What a great way to articulate it. I attended a show last month and it blew my mind to the point of tears -- big, great, sorrowful tears -- and it was a catharsis of the best kind. What beauty, grace, and POETRY.
Bruce S true
amazing. :)
Yes he does!
at the beggining everybody is like "whos this one???"
but when he screams LEAVEEEEEEEEEEEEE, everybody is like "omg i love this guy"
a guy at work in 2007 gave me a dvd of the movie 'Once'. He said 'just watch it man'. Boy am i glad i did.
More passion then I've ever heard any man sing with...THAT'S why I love Glen Hansard...
Richard Ashcroft is another great performer.
I saw him in Chicago front row, opening for Eddie Vedder, and half through this song, he started crying. One of the most spiritual things I've ever seen. One of the most underrated songwriters of this generation.
Would love to have been there

Of the many great songs Glen has written, this one always makes the hairs stand up on the back of my neck
This is hands down the best recording of this song! I can’t imagine seeing that live!
I have no words...this song is perfect.
I come back to this at least once a month. Purely beautiful and raw. Just incredible.
I love this man SO much, what a voice. He can do no wrong xx

Since I met him in Once the movie it's been an inspiration for me to write songs. Respect🧡
Y ahí tienen a una persona cantando con el corazón en la garganta...Demasiado maravilloso Glen...
There should be way more likes on this video. This man is better LIVE than in a recording studio. So much soul.
I don't know many singers who can belt out so much energy and feeling. Always makes my hair stand on end.

I saw him for the first time in Once. A wonderful, moving film with wonderful, moving music. I have the soundtrack and get chills every time on a lot of the tracks.
This man sure knows how to write music! ...such a great performer too
Glen you truly are mind blowing. This song freezes me in a place I once was and it just is fantastic mate. credit to you Glen you are right up there for me with so many of your wonderful songs. Poetry in motion.
Never been lucky enough to see Glen but I'm keeping hope alive.
This piece of heaven deserves more views
This is why ireland produces some of the best musicians in the world. Glen, Hozier, U2, Lizzy, Rory, just to name a few
chris mcdonald kodalineee

How can the crowd be smiling while listening to this. I would burst into tears...
It IS hard to keep your eyes dry when you’re at his concert. Such joy. It’s too much emotion.
i’m crying in the club rn jk i’m
in quarantine because of corona but when i was little me and my family went to see once in the theatre i loved it so much i forced my family to come with me to see it again. I used to cry my eyes out listening to this song lmao

Glen is a gift from the God's ❤
just unreal love him
this ginger has soul!
So much talent
Favorite song off of the Once album
I 💘 this song
Losing love is part of this human experience
I can't wait forever is all that you said
Before you stood up
And you won't disappoint me
I can do that myself
But I'm glad that you've come
Now if you don't mind
Leave, leave,
And free yourself at the same time
Leave, leave
I don't understand, you've already gone
And I hope you feel better
Now that it's out
What took you so long
And the truth has a habit
Of falling out of your mouth
But now that it's come
If you don't mind
Leave, leave
And please yourself at the same time
Leave, leave,
Let go of my hand
You said what you have to now
Leave, leave
Let go of my hand
You said what you came to now
Leave, leave
Leave, leave
Let go of my hand
You said what you have to now
Leave, leave..
What guitar? That's his third arm.
pure artist!
the way u strum !!!
😍😍
he's great
Amazing little dittie. That guitar needs a bandaid. Never seen anyone play an instrument to death like Mr. Hansard.

Watch film.
Livv Live It was originally composed for the film Once though - which has a different plot.
Lara Keane but I wrote both the movie and the musical
❤️❤️❤️
Man goes through a pack of strings a song playing like that!
Such passion though!
goodness gracious
Well played Dr. Cox!
AWSOME
amazing
Is it the same guitar he uses in Once? I think so.
The audience seem less than impressed. How can they not be affected by this song/performance?
Audience just listening - seeing it through their own eyes- not through their smartphone screens stretched into the air...
TREMENDO TEMA
It was raining like a bitch this day... This was a free gig in the park so these people just gathered around. It wasnt a major festival or something.. And dont be so hasty people.. This icelandic race is the most beautiful on the planet! all this from an irish fella.
@horrorgrrl11 they are listening to the song, feeling it, not merely drinking beer and acting chaotic cause they are at a concert. Smart crowd.
i´m pretty sure that this wig has plenty of roots ! and those roots smell like genius :)
this means a lot to me
haha, I understand that.
I was speaking in congruence by saying "they also smoke and drink in succession." Multitaskers, the lot of 'em. ;)

God dammit I love this song.
E nós, pobres mortais, procurando por um violão novíssimo em folha... O cara é muito bom!
Again and again, that feel.. I'm not alone, there's no leave about n my relationship but that feel...
ps1: check his guitar. natural...
ps2: closed eyes = feel (meant)
This man had torn soul when he wrote this song ... probably for Marketa... great music!
❤️👌
Me and him both, Sounds pretty fuckin' awesome!
@Zarok63
The soul lives on the inside.. The man is humble, he is love, he is the truth..
Wow... He.... Wow....
exceptionnel:-)
Rock n Roll.
But you wont dissapoint me, I can do that myself ;(
The crowd is annoying like people said but this is about what I did when I first heard glen. Like a shock
@kuiyuanyuan
Check it out. 1:23 - 1:29....
Middle guy takes a swig, guy behind him exhales after a puff, guy behind him takes a swig as well....I wonder how long that goes on for, haha.

Ryan Dunn's lost twin brother
People in the crowd are not zombies they are just speechless
