From my perspective the brownish strips used in the barn quilt give the illusion of the earthiness of what a barn on a farm is all about. I really like them.
I don't have a problem cutting up quilts and using them for something else, especially if/when they are damaged. HOWEVER, the 3rd quilt, the one you are considering cutting up is just so striking and cohesive all together that my initial thought was "No! It's so beautiful." But, I have watched enough of your videos Nora, and you do beautiful work and love and respect quilts. I trust you and support you whatever decision you make on that issue. Go with your gut! I also believe things we make, even the best art from the most famous artists, aren't going to last forever. Things are made to be used. Thanks again for your video.
I love these old quilts! Each one tells a story! And I always think of the lady who made it and what was her life like, was she making it for someone as a gift, where did she get the fabric. So fun!
The barn quilt fabric reminds me of the fabrics of the late 80’s or early 90’s. I had some of that cow fabric for one of my quilts during that time period for a baby quilt! Great collection of quilt tops.
Thanks for showing these interesting quilts. The first one was so unique and then the third one blew me away. LOVE the barn blocks. Have never seen anything like it. It's impressive how flat all these hand pieced quilts are!
Love seeing these, looking forward to your take on some. The 4 patch with pink background, has a wee hole, if u go 2 blocks down then 2 blocks to the left, on the gray plaid u can see a wee hole. The barn quilt would be fun with a small plaid border. Great video.
Great quilt tops you have found. They all look amazing. I'm going to be thrilled seing what you are going to make from the Star quilt with the damaged background. You might know it but I wanted to recommend Chris O'Neil from Sew the distance. She has a series "lessons from an old quilt" where she presents an old quilt and as much history she was able to get with it (what often is not much but still great serie).
Hi Nora,I think that the barn quilt was probably made in the 1980's or early 1990's. The flag fabric was probably from 1976 for the bicentennial. The patchwork print fabric looks like some that I remember from the early 1980's.
In the last quilt, the cheater print and the flags may be from the late 1960s or early 1970s?? There was a lot of 'colonial' stuff out there, for the centennial in 1976. That 4-patch quilt is just the bee's knees!! That double-pink, and those shirting fabrics are definitely swoon-worthy!! I will definitely have to look for the book you showed, and I can't wait to see what you do wtih all of them!
Nora, how about appliquéing little hearts 💕 and stars over the damaged parts. You might sprinkle them around the quilt in other spots also just to balance it out. Just a little thought that came to mind as I was watching.😊
Barn quilt fabrics? I'd say 80's. I had some of that fabric that is printed like quilt blocks. Would have purchased it from the fabric store where I worked at that time. Of course, it could have been put together later in the 90's. :-)
Hi Nora. I just LOVE looking at quilts. Especially older ones. Thank you for the video. I appreciate it.
WOW, the quilt at 9:30! Amazing, love the pink shade, not too bright, not too pale.

I love the back of quilt number 2. I would be tempted to keep it that way.
The brown strip on the barn block looked like the ground of the barn on top, great quilts thanks
I love old quilts too! I think your barn quilt needs a border.💜💜💜
Wow, LOVE the barn quilt, I'm from the Midwest and that really speaks to me. Hope you share the finished quilt!!!!
I used the same flag fabric, found in the barn quilt, for a maternity top for July 4th, while expecting my last child in 1996. Love the quilt!
Loved this video. Thanks for sharing your quilt top finds with us.
Beautiful quilts. What fun!

Would like to see this barn pattern also! Hope you can figure it out! ALL of these are unique! Thanks for sharing!
Subscribed ❤ love all things quilted. Fyi, Brenda from Conquering Mount Scrapmore gave you a shout out. 🤗 to her ❤

I might put a border on the last one of either a blue, red or brown color?? Just to make it a little bit bigger…❤
I like the barn quilt to me that just looks like the ground the dirt in front of the barn
Enjoyed the video, Nora! I love old fabrics. Where do you find them? And what will you do when your done with them?
These are amazing. Could you share what they cost?
I have the "Cow" fabric and the selvage was dated 2007 - also came with pigs! ;0
Brown block is “Faded” from the looks
For the third quilt have you thought about reducing it’s size by a row and using the fabric in the removed row to mend the rest of the quilt
I repair quilts. Get fabric close in color do hand repair to save these treasures❤

I keep looking for your version of Darlene Michaud’s blocks of the month. Do you have some videos coming soon?
The brown in the last quilt represents dirt ground in front of the barn. Maybe. ? Loved and enjoyed this video Nora. Thanks
The quilt with the “stain” on the four patch…when you pulled camera back it looks like an iron burn.
Perhaps the maker of quilt number 5 actually had the silo intruding on the block above it and the brown represents ground of the top block.
Maybe make new little stars that are similar to those on those pieces that are ripped and torn
The barn quilt I mean
Tiny strips the back of it actually looks like the front of a rag quilt
Doesn’t look antique to me .
