Morning & Evening Prayers : Read in Monotone out of the Jordanville Prayerbook#1/2

  • These are Morning and Evening Prayers for the Eastern Orthodox Church.
This book is of Russian Orthodox Origin and most of the prayer were written by very Holy Men who had attained the Knowledge of God through Theoria.
(When we say "knowledge of God" do not think of it in relations to human reasoning. God is known in a man's Nous - Nous is a Greek word which is often wrongly translated as "mind" in english.
The Nous is "The Eye of the Soul", or it is, "The Purest Part of the Soul").
These prayers were chanted in monotone by the Russian Monk of the Holy Cross.
You can buy the CD with the Prayers on it at their gift-shop online and also the "Psalter", and "The Preparation for Holy Communion".
The online text of the PrayerBook is here:

@@evelina.gukasyan We read the bible at every service. I grew up Protestant and found the Eastern orthodox is 'THE church' and the Roman Catholic separated in 1054. The Protestant fell with Luther first, he left out many things and later was sorry about some of it he did not include, and then Anglican, Episcopal, and on and on and on. As people disagreed with something and wanted to change it they left. With this, they are watered down and did loose some of the truth. This Eastern Orthodox church is taken from apostles of Jesus, and 'He taught them and they taught other disciples' and it just kept growing and many died for their faith and we may need to do this again one day. But with Orthodox, you pray much more and you say your prayers, much more, and as far as the (Icons) we ask for prayers to those who came before us and died for their faith. We can learn from what they experienced. We pray to those who died and went to heaven and ask to pray for us and asking Jesus to help us in various ways. Do you, Tommy ever ask a friend to pray for you? There is a 'heaven on earth and heaven and they both (Church) are actually ONE.' So we are all alive in spirit and able to communicate through the spirit in this way. (Prayers to Jesus)Whether you agree or not it does not matter. But experience the church yourself by going to one and go and see for yourself first! Do not complain now. You must learn about it and experience it. We do not bow to the Icons we pray that they will help by praying and asking Jesus too for us. We show respect and show" love to all in THE Church *above so below*"We do not have statutes. Please know we are not here to complain about other churches, God judges, not us in the end, but this is the church Jesus started, and many did break off.. They took what they wanted and left the rest. Things do change some, but the( Eastern Orthodox TRY to keep things as they have been from the beginning.) Fesco's were made on walls to tell story of Jesus' life as people could not read and they had to hide in catacombs and they learned by prayers and Icons or Frescos painted on walls. Some Icons were found from the beginning.

I converted from being a Baptist sectarian to the true Church founded by Jesus, The Orthodox Church. Because I was weak and worldly, I backslid back and lost six years, which I can never recover. But, as a severe medical affliction put me into disability, the Lord reached to me and called me back to the True Faith, the Faith of the Apostles, the Faith of the New Testament writings and witness. And although I am chairbound, and unable to attend the Divine Liturgy, the prayer life provided and directed by the Orthodox Faith is far more sustaining than any banjo hymn and clodhopping shouting in the Baptist practice. I hope you were able to find your way back, and I ask you to remember me in prayer.

These prayers are ideal for use by Catholics and Anglicans too. They cover all the theological and ecclesiological bases which Roman Lauds or Anglican Morning Prayer alone cannot begin to do. I combine the Orthodox Morning Prayers with the Roman Office of Readings united to the Psalms 148 to 150 of Roman Lauds, followed by the daily scripture reading and on sundays a gospel of the Ressurection. To be followed by the Benedictus and Mass collect for the day. Truly East meets West here..

      Agpeya book
The Agpeya is read throughout the day and in many situations. The hours of the day start from sunrise and end at sunset. The morning prayer (Prime), which corresponds to 6 a.m., is said upon waking up in the morning or after the Midnight praise the previous night. The Terce (9 a.m.) and Sext (noon) hours are prayed before each liturgy during the Offering of Incense. The None (3 p.m.) hour is also read during fasting days. Vespers (sunset) and Compline (9 p.m.) are read in the early evening and before bedtime, respectively. and are both read before the Liturgy during the Lent and the fast of Nineveh. The Midnight hour is read just before the Midnight Praise. The Veil hour is reserved for priests, monks and bishops.

Your lost words are disheartening. No one worships carvings, you don't know what you are talking about. We don't bow to anyone but Jesus...so what Orthodox faith have you followed again? None. You were never raised in such faith so the devil liar is you. You seem to know nothing about it. Nothing you have said makes sense or is true, bunch of rambles. Suddenly tradition is a bad thing? Get real. Worshipping Jesus as God in any faith will not lead anyone to hell, except for man made ugly views like your own that try to cause separation and confusion. As compared to other good prayer these days, this amazing prayer handbook “Kenοtοw Prayer” (Google it) is always that it offers and also point out what would be the probable challenges that are trying to keep you out from reaching your personal goals in your life. While you offer a prayer, you let go these beliefs and assert brand new ones. You certainly will choose to check it again and also emphasize the good prayers. .
