@@MAAscan $187 packs gets you to the average value of the box. But with prices coming down these should be $150 a pack right now.
On a side note that value was calculated only using the last 4 cards in the pack. I didn't add any value for regular foil commons and uncommons, borderless common or uncommons, and foil bordeless commons and uncommons. The EV for borderless foil commons and uncommons add about another $7 to the pack and regular borderless commons and uncommons adds another $3. Not much compared to the rest of the pack but its another $10 bill not added into the value per pack on average. However they are the easiest to get and will go down the most. But dam I want a foil borderless Eternal witness.

Normally seeing this much duplication would have me concerned, but fortunately I don't have enough money to burn to buy entire cases of these, so I won't have to worry about it.
I think it's great that they have selected a few choice commons/uncommons for the borderless slot, sure to at least get something playable there.
I think this much duplication can also be seen as a positive thing. It seems closer to true randomisation than other sets e.g the DM VIP packs. You can now pull 4 seals out of half a case, but also could get none in 1 full case. Increases the chance of hit or miss but on the other hand you don’t seem to have exploitable mechanisms like the 1 out of 4 VIP packs that had 0 mythics.
@@propjoe2261 The randomness and theoretical chance for extreme profit is greater, sure. But I can't imagine the patron in this video wanted playsets of foil borderless Gifts Ungiven and Hardened Scales, while having none of many of the other rares. At least, when I buy a box of a new product, I like to have some variation at least in the lower-end stuff.
@@frankvandorp2059 that’s a legit point, yeah. I think it’s a personal thing. In other sets I would agree 100%. In a high end product like this I prefer to let’s say have at least a chance to pull a seal and/or dockside from a random display I buy (and not that like in DM2020 that there is one mana crypt or FOW borderless foil per case and if someone else pulled it and sells the rest you can’t get it).

Here's the math on the textured cards: 3% chance of pulling a textured card per pack (fyi: there's 5 different textured mythics you can get). 8 boxes is 32 packs so 32(.03) = .96. Therefore, you should get .96 textured cards for each case you open (this is expected value). So, yes, roughly speaking about 1 textured card per case.
To take this further, using binomial distribution (we either get a textured foil or we don't, therefore, it's a binomial choice) (X = # of textured cards out of 32 trials with 3% chance of success):
Binomial probability (X = #) Cumulative probability (X < =#)
X = 0 is .37731 X = 0 is .37731
X = 1 is .37342 X

Ok Rudy, I did a quick breakdown of the first 4 packs. These are just the "hits" and using the average prices on TCG Player as of July 5, 2022 You made more than the cost of a CASE, in the first 4 packs. Meaning the next four packs are "free" and pure profit. This doesn't count the Uncommons that are $5-10 etc etc. I've watched about 20 videos of Collector openings, and have yet to see one where the actual value of the cards is less than the cost of the box.

Rudy, these pulls are insane, it’s actually so hard to get those textured cards
well they are in 3% of booster packs so 1 in 33. He opened 32 of them so that's pretty in line with the pull rate.
@@timspano5479 The chances of getting an upgraded textured card is 3% then add the odds of it being an Ulamog and your chances are a lot lower than 3%.
@@CloudsFPV well yes, pulling an specific one is harder. If they printed them at the same rate and there are 5 of them the chance is 0.66% of packs.

I am so glad Richard Kane Ferguson got such a nice spotlight doing art for this set! He is by far one the best mixed medium, non digital artist ever in MtG's long history, and is sadly still underrated by far after almost 30 years of work he has given WotC. Yeah I'm a fan 🙂

@@xancypillosi9497 ranges anywhere from values posted to 10-20% less at most currently. I'd highly expect these numbers to drop by a lot by the time the market gets flooded, and then to rise again slowly for the case of ultra-rares such as textured foils.

I think both will happen. Prices of cards will come down, and prices of the boxes will increase and meet somewhere in the middle. Then the boxes will slowly increase in value and in a few years will easily be 7-800 a box while only a few of the cards maintained their value.

The foil treatment and exclusive artwork on cards will make half of the staples retain their value.
The cards will maintain value long term. Unique arts and the textured chase will make boxes go up quicker though

those etched foil and texture cards will likely retain given their actually rarity, but for the other versions I also believe the singles will drop significantly. We already saw in the last couple of years that foil/variant art/borderless provides hardly any multiplier nowadays since CB are stuffed with those.

textured cards are in 3% of boxes. and there are 10 variations you can pull. each individual card assuming split chances is .3% chance per box (you'd have to spend $916k minimum at $275 a box to get each individual textured foil, if you had the correct chances)

i think this product is way too expensive and i am not a big fan of the foils in magic. BUT... damn, the art in this set and the choice of cards to reprint? absolutely 10 out of 10.

well it's not even all about algo. Only some of all the cards in this Set got full art/ borderless treatment. So there is simply a really good chance of pulling these better rares/ mythics in your two guaranteed borderless R/M slots. It's a no brainer. The same is true for C/U btw, that's why you pull the same ones over and over again.

I'm probably one of the very few who hopes the prices of some of these cards tank after the insane amount of high value reprints in this set, if for no other reason than to finally be able to afford some of these make-or-break heavy hitters for edh.
I see the goal of WOTC here. They smashed MH1, Coa 2019, Ravnica booster boxes. They batched most good mythics in this set. PS if you guys are impressed about imperial seal there are roughly 200 for sale in Europe!

It is not worth it for small batches and when you go large you can get ripped off and I lost $600 once ones because someone from Canada send me "a Turd in a box" and PayPal refused my request for refund because in their opinion the official police report I files was fake >

I think everyone should step back, forget WOTC/supply/profit/Baldurs gate etc etc and just enjoy the art…The combined 90s art (from commons like Unearth to full art Phyrexian Altar and Damnation, this is old school 90s), water colored art (Richard treated us wildly) and the amazing foiling is just the pinnacle of beauty in Magic History

the sections of card that look different is called Spot UV - its a unique layer in printing that uses or doesnt use the clear coat or a Varnish

Watching this and knowing that singles prices are going to get destroyed. Textured will hold or even go up. But man I cant remember a set where so many people bought multiple cases on credit and need to flip quick.

I don't even play MTG, and I have no idea why I'm recommended these videos, but those are some beautiful cards man.
Rudy is like "Grim Flayer reminds me of toxic deluge, Idk why" its Richard Kane Ferguson, of course it does. Dude is an amazing artist.
All the pre-order values on these cards are sky high. They are currently being propped up by original printing / popularity / rarity prices... but once all these boxes start getting cracked over the next 3 months, the prices should fall a fair amount, for this set only and slight dips for the originals and other printings. The boxes should go down in price. BUT with how these collector boxes are popping out all the bangers... I would not be surprised at all if we were to see Collectors Boxes disappear from shelves / online en masse. And the textured cards should hold value over time, even eclipsing their original printings by a good amount.
SO in other words = Buy Collector Boxes now (to open or price horde) before they disappear AND hang on to any of the textured cards for long term super value. Wait to buy draft booster boxes, they will go down in price surely. Just focus on buying Collectors.
Singles really do seem overpriced I was happy I preordered a few from card kingdom for 50% of TCG. I got some borderless foils for cheaper then non-foil. The flip side is boxes are overpriced if Amazon and WOTC are holding out on a decent supply boxes. Somewhere something has to come down fast

Yes make this over priced shit for the colleges and give the players reprints of the cards we want and need at affordable prices... WoTC caters to collectors and investors and doesn't give a shit about the players who r the ones actually keepin their game alive while collectors and investors just ruin it. I preordered 3 collector boxes because I knew it was undervalued based on ur logic Rudy! Glad I did. Also my Walmart had double master collector packs and I bought one just to open one right away and hit a full Monty force of negation and a crossroads!

A lot of these reprints are 20$+ cards... If you get 4 in a pack, an automatic 80$ pack and packs are about 70/80... Hit anything in the high roller spot in your box.... Free tendies?

I'm not going to open my draft and collector box, I'll just buy the few singles I need. if your paying 400 per box and opening 8 boxes, I'm pretty sure with prices of singles slightly droping its better too just buy singles.

The textured seem to be going for about 450-600 or more. So pretty awesome if you manage to grab one. I wonder if they hold their value though. They will always be really rare and these are the first ones and possibly last ones, so just depends on how much people value the rarity of the cards.
I need a Cavern of Souls, Phyrexian Altar and Bloom Tender. The rest of the entire set aside from a few rares/mythics such as Imperial Seal, I have at least one copy of an earlier printing. I'm aiming for one collector box and going half and half on a draft box with a buddy for our four person playgroup. The collector box is for me and the playgroup cracks the draft box and then we play a commander game for who gets to pick first. Its a helluva way to open and distribute a box among friends. Cheers and may all of the value be on your side the next time you open a pack or box of expensive, colored cardboard.
8 collector boxes in a case. Good god, and how much is an entire case, $1500??? The cards look amazing and a whole case would be the best way to get in on this but that is too much for me. I'm hoping to be able to get one or two collector boxes before they jump to $400+
Based on all the openings I've seen on this one of two things has to happen. Either the cards are going to go to zero or the boxes go to the moon. The sheer volume of hits that can almost pay for a box themselves and others that can do 40-50% is so high it's unreal
The modus operandi of Masters sets is a single print run that disappears quickly. These boxes are going to the moon. Ordered my case.
@@arsonizor111 The super moon. over $6000 in value in this video at todays prices. Even if prices on the cards drop by half that still $3000 of value by spending $2000. Crazy return for 10 minutes of work opening the packs.
@@arsonizor111 I got my hands on one of each box, would've bought more if I had the spare cash for it just based on what the last double master set has done financially. And I got 5 bucks that says this one ages better
@@fragger42 That's my guess too. I figure it'll ease off the cost of a few of the modern staples for long enough to buy a deck and then it'll rebound
@@clarkX100 looking at double masters one prices, they bottomed about 4 months after release with a drop of about 25% from release day pricing. All of the staple cards have rebounded and are more expensive now than on release day.

All about how big the print run is. Large print run prices will fall and stay down. Small print run prices will quickly rise again. A reprint no matter what the size would have an interesting effect on the market.
Caught the Walmart restock this week. These single packs are ringing up for 84 dollars... I was quick to put it back. I'm sure some kid will steal em and pull some fire

No one should be buying these after all of the crying and complaining about it being so expensive. "It's just four packs. I don't want them. This is a bad product." Now people want to switch up lol.
