      Matthews drops everything, especially his pants on trapped women

    • @Fouetzky
      @Fouetzky ปีที่แล้ว

      Here's how I see it... Matthews saw Killorn was ahead in their race for the puck. First he tried to stick lift/poke check Killorn from his right side to swing the puck back towards the corner, but Killorn knew it would happen so he used his hip and right leg to block the stick. Matthews reacted as soon as he realized it, so instead he tried to use his skate to "intercept" the puck which was heading right on Killorn's stick since he was ahead of both him and the puck. By doing this he could have quickly kicked it back to his stick and he'd already be facing towards the center of the ice/offensive zone, and kept the play alive with a key Tampa player out of position. It seems to almost have worked because Killorn wasn't able to touch the puck since Matthews had his skate blocking the puck (but it kept going into the neutral zone, Killorn caught up to it in front of the Leafs bench and.... game over).
      If he body checked Killorn or went for a poke check between his legs, yeah maybe Tampa might not have been able to get the puck out of the D zone right away, but it would likely have stayed near the boards - and Tampa would have done everything to keep it there so the Leafs wouldn't have the puck again before the game ended.
      Should it have worked and Toronto was able to score, everyone would have called him a genius for this play. But instead, it kinda looks like he gave up because by committing to playing the puck with his skate, he lost his momentum and balance and "crashed" into the boards, while Killorn and the puck were already out of the zone... It was actually worth the risk IMO, even if he didn't completely get it right. Considering there was less than 15 seconds left, and having the puck out of the zone or stuck to the board near the blue line pretty much meant game over (If there was more time left, or if the Leafs were tied/ahead in the game, it would have been a completely different story because it's a high risk play that instantly gives the opponent an odd man rush if it fails).

    I'm from Tampa. The Lightning know the playoff Maple Leafs better than any team in the NHL. I'm sure the Leafs are thinking about the '"curse". to suggest otherwise is absurd. The Lightning should take game 6. After that, don't forget about the "curse" and the Leaf will see game 7 in their barn. What happened last year? Steve Dangle is the best announcer in hockey. If Tampa doesn't advance, I'll root for the Leafs just to watch Steve Dangle lose his mind!

    @SteveDangle I know this always gets buried in the comments, but I'm going to keep repeating it because it's true. The Leafs playoff struggles really revolve around their refusal to trap in the neutral zone. Holl missed his check in the neutral zone, but if the Leafs forwards looked to physically engage on rushing puck carriers through the neutral, Holl wouldn't have to whiff on a check, he could pay attention to his actual defensive duties and the Lightning wouldn't be entering the Leafs' zone at 150mph all the time. The Leafs HAVE to start knocking guys on their ass in the neutral or their grip on the series will become loose again.

    Dude gotta say it every time I see a play like that gio hit. You can't just stand there facing the boards. There should be a penalty for standing there like that with your numbers facing the play, you're basically making yourself ineligible to be defended in a certain way. Gio started to turn there and I can see why maroon wouldn't pull up, it's the hitting players responsibility to execute a hit properly, but if a defending player changes course suddenly you can't expect the opposing player to pull up or avoid the collision. Once you're on a path to hitting a player it can be more dangerous to pull off to one side (knee on knee, hitting the boards yourself from a few feet away if you lose an edge)

    • @foxboy64
      @foxboy64 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      it was a legal hit. a 100% legal hit. in the intermission review the LEAFS FAN on the panel even said they thought the call there was bogus on maroon.
      this isn't even a "the leafs player turned at the last second to make the check illegal" because it WAS STILL legal. but hey, its tampa. everyone has it in their heads that its the lightning who are friends with the stripes, so they can keep screaming about how every time a player on their team loses an edge in the same zip code as a lightning player its a missed trip.
      its how other teams cope with the lightning being so much better, in spite of the refs ACTUALLY officiating AGAINST the lightning most of the time.
      let me know when the league levies a fine against rilley for boarding point. that somehow the leafs went on the powerplay for.

    When that series got to 3-1 the Lightning must have thought "we've got them RIGHT where we want them!".
    Good luck next year leafs fans. 😂

    What's the story on the yellow sweathers next to the penalty box?

    • @calebchilds472
      @calebchilds472 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      in game 1 or 2 there was a big fellow wearing a big yellow hoodie chirping at the lightning penalty box getting them all riled up. dude ended up being kicked out but it became a big story because anything becomes a big story in toronto.
