I'm so used to playing with real small nations, like Iceland and the Sultanate of Aussa, that I was shocked when someone called Austria, Hungary, etc. "Minor Powers"
They are minor nations in name only, because they can quickly obtain and core enough land to jump from minor to major within a few years and its why I cant understand people liking the new changes to the British AI, because whenever you bring up how it almost makes a lot of minors unplayable they just go "wdym I just conquered them with austria (hungary), im just better lol"
@@vault6242 Good. You shouldn't be conquering the british isles as a solo iceland with basically nothing. I'm so tired of that kind of ridiculous crap. I much prefer the game stick within the realm of believable physics and present alternate history timelines from a point of believable physics. It's physically impossible for iceland to conquer the british isles, and should be in game. Form a unified Scandinavia if you want to invade the british isles successfully.
@johnteixeira1791 lmao hoi4 is not a realistic simulator, its a ww2 game, if you want a game that all it does is make you micro manage everything for 8 hours play black ice instead of wanting everyone to go through it
@@vault6242 "its not 100% accurate so you should be in favour of things being 100% unbelievable and wacky" never understood this logic. someone wanting things to believable does not mean they want to micro manage everything. infact micromanaging everything is unrealistic as the leader of a country does not micromanage everything. and how does "i don't want microstates to be able to solo major nations" in anyway mean "i want black ice level micromanagement" these things are not related.
mothership aircraft were actually tested in ww2 by the soviets at least, though they strapped fighters to strategic bombers for close air support instead of air superiority
Germans theorized planes like the Amerika Bombers with me163s strapped under the wings. Same with usa during the coldwar, alooking into b29s with f84s underneath.
Mothership aircraft is way too expensive resource-wise, but if you're playing as a nation with a lot of aluminium, for example hungary of yugoslavia, it's good
I like how Czechoslovakia is one of the strongest minors but you can just bully it like that, but when I'm playing as Czechoslovakia I FEEL LIKE A MONSTER!
1:16:30 The first jet engine isn't amazing, but if you use two, it does create an expensive plane, but it allows you to add basically every single module you could want, including cannons and a single extra fuel tank, so although you may not produce them all that quickly, the stats are so high that they trash things even if you only have a small number of them. This effect increases once you get the axial flow jet engine and then the supersonic airframe.
1:29:00 No, you can put any jet engine in any airframe. You'll get the most benefit by putting them on a later airframe because they're not a flat addition of speed but a percentage increase.
Degaussing is historical, the Brit’s did it at the start of WW2 to counter German magnetic mines. They would wrap the hulls of their ships with copper wiring and run an electrical current through it to decrease the magnetic signature of their ships.
put guns on cas support is totally worthless wtf. That planes are gonna attacks the troops on the ground because the missions not the planes, thats totally useless
Yeah. If you're that worried about being intercepted then you should be building fighters to blow them up before worrying about CAS. If you don't have air superiority you aren't going to be doing CAS damage enough to matter anyway. My cas is always armour plate, dive brake, fuel tanks, early designs get bomb locks, later designs use Heavy Bombs, AT Cannon 2 and Rocket Rails. In single player it doesn't really matter what you do unless it's incredibly dumb. I also avoid putting guns on CAS for the reason that it stops you being able to deploy a bunch of fighters + CAS and then clicking air superiority and ground support, because if your CAS has guns on it, they'll do air superiority missions instead of CAS.
I played single player allied air control with motherships as both NZ and Australia. With NZ I don't think I had enough production to ensure the war was won, but with Australia it definitely works! In both cases aluminium was the major limit on production.
11:45 You should actually pick someone who is a member of Vitez and a Stubborn Defender (or whatever the trait is that lets you pick the defensive field marshal trait) for your field marshal because one of the early focuses gives you 1 attack and 1 defense for every member of Vitez, which helps a lot in the early game, or if you save it, could put them to 10 attack or 10 defense once they've gotten highly skilled and reaching that naturally seems more unlikely.
3:00 On the subject of nobody buying your stuff, the Treaty of Trianon national spirit prevents you from trading with anyone, with the sole exception of Germany because of the Gombos Treaty national spirit.
1:12:00 I was fairly sure that the garrison manpower could only be used for garrisons, so if you give more garrison manpower than they need, they'll hold on to it as a bank for their garrisons but it won't give them the excess for their fighting templates, so giving them the 1.25 million as you did was a waste. Incidentally, can you recall manpower you've given to another country?
A minor is a generic focus tree and no resources, Hungary is barely a minor these days you can just ask to control half of Europe and get it given, try this again as El Salvador or Ireland
Its not about factions for the market, its nation opinion, improve it above 30 and you have access to buy / sell from whoever you want. i always improve with the US because they will literally pay over 1000 industry / month for absolute trash things.
The mothership concept was tested as far back as WW1 with Zeppelins. And as recently as the cold war. None ever made it past the concept and design phase. The reason: it was a grotesquely stupid idea in terms of resources and practicality. Not a single one was ever produced between 1915 and 1958. If they were really OP, why didn't everyone power race for them?!?

Igor Kurchatov, the father of the Soviet nuclear program, spent part of the war degaussing ships in the Baltic Fleet.

Yup. It's not weird Dave. It looks like the Poles gave up Danzig and lasted past September of 1939. Or, Germany took forever to beat them.
