    Yeah I think most of us all agree that the older version is better. The difference is that Billy Walker was bottling much older stock from 1996 and earlier for his bottlings but keeping the age statements the same. His bottlings also had some small levels of peat (very lightly peated floor maltings up to 1996) and were from coal fired stills. That 2023 bottling is from after they switched over to steam in 2005 and no peat at all. They are just very different styles and we were definitely spoiled with the earlier versions. Side note here,....Billy Walker was bottling the previous owners distillate, Allied Distllers, for that older Revival. Rachel Barrie is now bottling Billy Walker's distillate from 2008 for her 2023 bottling. Cheers guys!

    The old was excellent, one of best I've had. The new is ok, definitely not close to the old one. I remember Ralfy saying that old one, had older whisky in it.

    Great review, I still have some Billy Walker Glendro 18 year old but was never able to find a Billy Walker 15 Revival. I still hunt for them.

    I still have a couple left of a case of the Billy Walker version from the time period when the juice was rumored to be much older than the stated 15 years. Best investment of my life.

    You know I like my comparisons. Super helpful. With all the changes at this distillery I don’t go for them anymore. Taste is still okay but there’s so much better out there.

    Bart "likes the vacillation." 🤭Good on ya. You know, I'm so glad you did this review. These sorts of whiskies are what got us into whisky in the first place and I think we've rather gone full circle in our whisky journeys - us old ones that is. It's great to see re-reviews and see how we've developed and changed, or not. Onto this one. Sad to say but this is where Glendronach are at these days. Good review and cheers guys. WT

    Absolutely no comparison between these two bottles, and tragic is the right word; the old Billy Walker Revival, matured exclusively in Spanish Oloroso sherry casks, absolutely dominates anything Rachel Berrie has put out. I can't wait to see what Glenallachie becomes in about 4-5 years when he starts to bottle his own distillate since he bought the company in 2017. I predict that their 2027-28 10 year cask strength will take the whisky world by storm.

      Also glad I've got 4 unopened bottles of the old Revival and another two opened. To be savored on special occasions.

      The funny thing is that 2023 bottling from Rachel is using Billy's distillate. Billy left Glendronach before he bottled any of his own stuff. He bottled much older Allied distillate. You are right, there is no comparison between them.

    • @MegaJohnconrad
      @MegaJohnconrad ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, but the Glendronach distillate he was working with had been designed to be a single malt. Glenallachie was designed to be a blend and their fermentation times were only 57-64 hours, which he doubled when he bought the distillery. His casks at Glenallachie are great, but the current distillate could be better, which it will be in another 4-5 years.

    I bought a bunch of 12 and 15's of the old model as Billy Walker walked out there door ... its chill filtered now and sadly as you've said not as good ... Try out the GlenAllachies there's good stuff there. I bought a bunch of them as well.

    Hey fellas I'm not sure if you mentioned it in the review, but Glen Dronach is chill filtering their whisky now. They started a couple of years ago. That could be why there's something amiss in the new bottlings. I've scratched them off as whisky to buy. For me, I'll be buying more Glenallachie instead. Cheers🥃

    • @ScotchTestDummies
      @ScotchTestDummies  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      we didn't mention that but if i remember right they only took it off the label but do not chill filter....

    Scott, if I heard correctly, Bart said you still had two bottles of the older 15yo Revival? I am definitely jealous. I remember owning only two of those in my time. I must admit, I do enjoy the 21yo Parliament, but my new favorite is the 18yo Allardice. I lean more towards the Glendronach bottlings that are exlcusively Oloroso sherry cask matured. Of course now, Glendronach has moved away from the non-chilled filter, while ( I think) keep the natural coloring. That might have change too, I am not sure. Good review and comparison guys.

      Hopefully the 18 and 21 maintain their quality. I do still have two bottles...

      @@ScotchTestDummies I do not plan on buying any current expressions of the 18 and 21yos, but that is mainly because I have plenty bottles to enjoy. Second, they did lose some appeal when Glendronach went chilled filtered. However, I wouldn't ignore them just because of that.

    the only down side for those bamboo caps is that if you drop it for a few times, it may crack😂 and sure it will suck in some smell from the whisky if you leave it over night on the glass. no matter peat or sherry😊

    They filtered viscous out. Boo. Their was a small window of old batch revival that was still Billy Walker, but bottled by Barrie. If I remember, they were marked non-chill, but had Barrie on the label--I have one.

    I’m watching this video again and comparing notes as I drink a wee dram. You’ve been doing videos together for over 7 years. Did you know that means you now have a common law marriage? So if you ever break up you gonna halfta split the whisky collection 50/50.
