Helpful tutorial. Unfortunately, it's 's a crappy game. I fell for the fake reviews on steam and hypes. First, you can't look around using your mouse. You have to hold shift to look around or holding the w and e key. That alone completely ruined the game for a simple sand box game. Second, there is no quest. I get it, the game want you to created your own adventure. Guess I want to do first? Stealing. Got caught with nobody around. So stupid mechanic lol. Third, graphic looks like poop. This explain why we can't tell between a rock and ore. I came from Atomic Heart. Playing this game downgrade my enjoyment. It's created stress instead by figuring why it's so hard to look around using the mouse. Update The no quest part is either lazy on the developer part or they want us all to become criminals. This game is the only game that make me feel depressed. I'm trap in an empty town that have nothing to do. Stealing get you beat up. Going out to a vast world of emptiness. I wonder if all the positive reviews are fake, created by the developers. They spend all their time writing a review instead of inventing quests for us 😅
@@condorX2 Which do you imagine is more likely? A tiny company in Bristol with 5 members, but only one until the last couple of years before release, has the time to generate thousands and thousands of hours of TH-cam content, write thousands of reviews and create thousands of steam profiles many of which have hundreds of games? Or could it be that you have the attention span of a goldfish and lacked the patience to experience an extraordinarily detailed game that is so immensely popular that people still update guides years after release?
@@condorX2 If you mean how many times have I died in Kenshi the answer is very very few after the first couple of attempts. You start the game as a puny nobody, once you grasp that fact and behave accordingly the game is not difficult. Its the whole point of the game that you start as the weakest most puny character in the game that can be mauled to death by a goat, and you crawl out of the dust and build yourself and your party into an army, then a town, then an empire. I like to start with a character with one leg. You're supposed to take a beating, every time you get stomped on you get a little stronger. In fact an early step is to find someone weak enough to beat you up without killing you. The game requires patience, ingenuity, persistence and a sense of humor. You're not supposed to spawn in and imagine you're a master thief, walk out with a broadsword and kick ass. Its not a game designed to make a dweeb in his mother's basement feel like a superhero. And that is what makes it all the sweeter when you no longer have to run from the weakest NPCs in the game. Its janky and has outdated graphics because the dev worked for years and years alone to produce an absolutely unique game, and people love it because of the depth and complex interlocking systems that generate bizarre and sometimes hilarious outcomes. The result is something between Rimworld and Mount and Blade that's given me over 500 hours of fun. 60,000 people voted it overwhelmingly positive for a reason. If you don't get it that must be because 60,000 other people are stupid and you're the genius with instantaneous clarity, right? Or maybe its the other way round?
As someone who has watched Kenshi let's plays for years but hasn't ever tried the game, this is a really helpful introduction. I've now downloaded the game and will start trying to survive!
Good luck! Remember dying is the only option... wait that isn't right... I can't remember the saying but you'll probably die... a lot... sooooo.... don't feel bad XD
As someone who plays this game to that point of frustration then puts it down for a while and comes back months later, I thank you for this guide to remind me of some things. I've started keeping notes of myself of some of the basics but this video really helps out a ton too.
outside the hub, there are 3 easy to reach full copper, 2 small copper, 4 full iron and at least 2 small iron nodes. if you're mining in the hub, buy a shack or two, and put iron & copper storage inside them. when mining within range of a storage, your characters will automatically haul to the storage when the resource's storage fills. means you can mine 100 (or more with mods) per storage without having to pay too much attention or sell every 10 ore or so.
also, for more combat oriented players, a sneaky trick at the start in the hub is to go into sneak mode in the inn and purposefully fail a KO attempt against the 'bar thug'. they are the only member of their faction in the town, and when they defend themselves, it is they, not you who 'starts' the combat, meaning the guards will knock them out pretty fast, so all you have to do is run upstairs after they attack then loot them when the guards dump them outside. their kit isn't great, but it's a massive step up from your starting kit, unless you are going full stealth.
@@kurisechan88 oh for sure, at the start, your team is basically a bunch of less than nobodies... in the hub, getting a couple of shacks up, one for ore stores and the other so you can do basic research. Get some simple kit from the bar/shinobi and you'll be able to survive most hungry/dust raids (running back inside the bar can be a lifesaver, but be warned, barmen are utterly fearless in kenshi.) just be careful not to aggro the slavers when they patrol through the area (of note, both slavemongers and nomads will appear at the hub, so wounded bandits will be cleared up pretty often and there's plenty of opportunity for trade)
Heyo, just a few... Points/corrections or just opinions to add. 1:33 Max relations by bandaging is 5 so you won't ever get anyone by that alone sadly. 2:33 Fantastic suggestion. The Freedom Seekers is the best new player start. 3:13 I suggest not touching the hunger slider myself. 3:45 It just effects bloodloss and wound degeneration. Higher means downtime when training is a LOT longer. Wouldn't suggest touching. 4:10 Do NOT touch Global damage multiplier. EVER. So the game has a bug which causes Crossbow damage to be affected twice by this setting. So, if it's 2x then Crossbows do 4x damage, 3x is 9x, and 4x is 16x. On top of that lowering the multiplier actually reduces XP gain, while boosting it increases XP gain. Important to note that it only affects Combat XP. 4:57 Important to note that making crafting speed higher means that you will (If buying from a town) be required to find more shops to buy materials from. 5:50 Correct it does not work anymore. 6:03 No... It does not work. 8:22 Big disagreement here. Hit chances are massively different. Because of hit chances Scorchlander will beat a Greenlander in a fight more than they will lose (With the same stats) even if healing was disabled. All of the 4 non-hive races will absolutely destroy hivers in fights due to the Hiver chest hit chance paired with low stomach hit chance due to a mechanic called hit multiplier. (When hit chance hit in that part is increased. Starts at 1, goes up by 1 when hit, max of 5...) That being said feel free to play what you want just saying that not all races are on the same level in the end. 12:55 You do NOT need to be seen healing a member of a faction. 18:22 The tips are quite helpful however has a few typos in it and it a bit outdated. (Still mentions CHASE mode and the blueprint backpack bug that was fixed a while back) 20:29 (Pause) 0x Speed, 1x Speed, 2x Speed, 5x Speed in case anyone is curious. 21:06 Certain areas have darker skies so it may seem later earlier in the day. The clock is working as intended. Think of it like if it's 8PM in Alaska it'll look different than 8PM in California.
23:00 No... It just means they will not provoke enemies themselves. They certainly will fight back. 23:50 Medic is an urgent task not really a job so even disabling JOBS will not prevent them from doing it. If HOLD is enabled they will not seek out allies further away to bandage however. 24:35 Never noticed any issues with RANGED. Important to note if you have any issues it might be because the target has "Diplomat" status which causes the AI to almost completely ignore attacking them with ranged weapons. 25:44 Please note that if you use the walk or jog options athletics can actually level slower. Weird.. But yeah. 27:46 The game tooltip lies. Wearing armour or not results in the same Toughness XP. ALWAYS wear armour when training Toughness. 27:58 You gain a very small amount of XP from taking damage. So just fight weaklings. It's not affected by Stronger Opponent Logic. 28:25 Tooltip lies again. Weapon weight does not affect XP gain. (On weapon) Cut dmg / (cut dmg + blunt dmg) = Dex XP relative to Attack XP. Crossbows are VERY VERY slow for leveling Dexterity, so I suggest using a Rusted Junk Foreign Sabre for great XP gains. You can get 1-90 Dexterity in around a game day if we only count time spent fighting/healing without cheese :) 30:00 Tip from a Kenshi nerd here. Don't ever use blunt weapons or staff. They are horrible. 30:45 Ranged damage is a flat amount. 100 Crossbow skill just means you reload/aim faster and are more accurate. Doesn't increase damage... Techniquely DPS would be the word to use. Weapons do far more damage than Crossbows when trained, ontop of being able to hit multiple units at once. And if armour is added to the mix then Crossbow damage is pathetic. You can only take out groups before they get close to you if they are unarmoured and you outnumber them. 32:10 The point you don't damage yourself anymore is at 200 combined total MA and Toughness... Infact if you go above 200 total (From equipment) you can actually heal up limb damage by attacking. Funny little bug :) 32:30 All weapons do that if you do enough damage. Just MA hits so flipping hard it can stumble units MUCH easier.
32:39 When blocking you take no damage at all... So, this is incorrect. And to add dodge lock is only really a thing if you fight vs Beak Things. Basically VERY slow attacking enemies with a lot of reach. People overexaggerate "dodge lock" a bit too often imo. The mods which buff MA the most powerful skill in the game are just cheat mods and people just want to justify buffing themselves. 34:10 Science increases the radius of Prospecting. 44:20 I wouldn't suggest mining unless you REALLY need cats ASAP. There are way better things to do. Like luring Garru to guards, looting abandoned ruins etc... 46:50 Don't fight enemies with cut weapons at the very start. Or if you are hit by them flee. Starving bandits are slow. Bandage yourself and rush back in. 49:46 You get back up when healed to 0. Never in my 5,300 hours of the game have I had a unit get back up before then. Not saying it isn't possible.. But I feel like I would have seen it once hah. 51:00 Beds boost healing speed of stun damage (empty health) and bandaged health (the yellow health) by 8. You heal (Healrate)% for both types of damage every 22mins of gametime. If you zoom your camera out you actually heal up to 40% slower so zoom in and look straight down to heal at max speed. 58:00 Animals don't actually attack bases. It's more that they just wander into your town randomly. Raptors are the only real "attackers" when they try to eat your crops which will cause your characters to attack them. They don't really attack you first. 59:36 Gorillos are fantastic XP however and do mostly stun damage meaning you won't be worsening to death if one KOs. 59:41 Nests respawn somewhere in the zone after killed. So if a zone has 10 nests spawn and you kill 1 then another one appears somewhere in the zone. 1:00:20 Well said. Steer clear of Skin Bandits/Crab Raiders/Reavers early for sure. Crossbow using enemies/animal owning factions are deadly at the start.
On the spirit of the post, I'll point out that characters *can* get up with negative chest/stomach/head, so long as none of the three have gone below your KO point (set by toughness, goes from the -20ies at low stats all the way up to -85 at max toughness) Once your character goes below their KO point they do get into a coma and won't get up till all 3 vitals have gone above 0
Bought the game today during the summer sale. I've watched kenshi content and was interested but saw playing as overwhelming. This guide game me the confidence to give it a go and I love it. Thank you taking the time to put this together
I love making characters in this game and that’s it lol I’m currently playing Morrowind for the first time and it scratches every itch that this game can’t scratch. I’m sorry but every start in this game gimps you so hard that it is not possible to kill anything in a 1v1 without grinding stats or using exploits
A tip for new players of my own: training athletics early on will help a lot. The ability to outrun enemies is one of the most useful things in Kenshi. How do you train this? Just grab a bit of food at your local bar and explore the world! Try to go from town to town, that way there is always somewhere you can run towards in case you get into trouble. Avoid ruins for now, you can get back to them later, preferably when you have a base that can store the loot
57:45 This honestly, I was playing a skeleton character and I tried building my base close to Squin because I really wanted to make sure I had the Shek as neighbors since they didn't give a crap about me being a robot (that and their city had some good shops for my character, heavy weapons, an armorer, bars, a trade store and a travel store). What I didn't anticipate was just how close to Holy Empire territory I was building, a couple of ingame weeks after I finished building my outpost I saw "Prayer Day" and at the time I knew the holy Empire attacked skeletons on sight so I literally got inside my house and locked my doors and tried to wait them out. Then, they left. About an ingame month passes and I see Holy Empire Assault, and I go into panic mode, immediately begin buying building materials to get some defensive walls and I even hired some mercs out of the Hub to try and defend against it. But in the end, the Holy Empire slaughtered the mercs, most of them died, but I was able to heal those who didn't bleed out on the battlefield. It was very demoralizing and so I ended up starting up a new save to figure out where I want to actually want to set up camp for my character.
There is a thing to add for base defenses. Not sure about the other tiers, but I noticed that some higher tier walls, specifically defensive IV, to lesser extent III have some issues positioning of gunners. Sometimes, when you load the game, the gunners will be at the bottom of the walls - so always check after loading. Higher tier defensive walls give you better damage bonus for turrets due to height advantage, but they are also considerably more janky in how they handle firing angles - they are fairly prone to friendly fire incidents. Basically - you should probably avoid putting a long line of turrets without any break - put turrets every second slot if you can help it. Placing a watchtower also helps - the overhang of a watchtower makes for a good firing position and seems to not produce problems with friendly fire - and is very tall, for amazing bonus. A U-shaped gateway is good, but for the reasons of friendly fire shape may work better. Another thing to consider - make double gates, if you can afford the space. Enemies bunching up at the gate may literally clip through it.
I've actually been treating the gate clipping as a roleplay feature in my head. When I have to deal with a horde of cannibals or fogmen or shriekers or whatever it might be, who are typically the ones to arrive in such numbers that their physics get janky, I imagine the occasional clipping through as representing some of them managing to climb over or pry open some small structural flaw to squeeze through. Kind of how I imagine a 'horde' attack like that would go down, they wouldn't realistically just stand there hitting your gatehouse with clubs, they'd be trying to climb your defences, maybe even have some things to help with that like primitive grappling hooks or ladders. Of course it's not meant to represent that nor is it visually rendered, but I feel it makes sense that you have to account for "some" enemies to make it into your base even if the gate holds when you're under serious attack. So it doesn't bother me that much. ☺
During one of my base playthroughs I basically made a base with two sets of walls, three gates and more than enough buildings in the center of the town. Basically a castle with more interior walls. This seemed to help the most because enemy raids will attack the front gate which basically led into a tunnel where the second gate was. The walls making up that tunnel pretty much had their own set of turret guards that would shoot everything in that tunnel before they broke through the second gate. If they broke through the second gate It wasn’t too much of a concern because I sealed off most of my workers behind the third gate. I usually had a handful of dedicated soldiers that stood next to the second gate in the event of an attack. So by the time they broke through the second gate it was usually less than ten guys that could be mopped up easily. Since I started this base near the Swamps the Holy Nation attacked pretty regularly and since I was farming Hemp for Hash production Raptors were also a nuisance. But they never made it past the second gate.
Just started downloading and already love this game by seeing the beginners guide is 2 hours. Reminds me of when I got into Factorio and searched train basics, 1.5 hours.
hehe yep! Kenshi has a rough learning curve, but it's the type of game you can just play and figure out as you go. Some people love that, for the rest, here is a guide! :D Welcome to Kenshi!
Lol im playing on a gtx 960, assembling a PC with 7900 XT, and im pretty hyped to get back into Kenshi when im done building, just goes to show how much fun engaging gameplay matters regardless of graphics
That's because they have an amazing concept with not perfect execution. If they can nail down the game play a bit more in 2 then that game could be amazing.
Totally agree, the concept is entirely novel. Combines elements of sandbox rpg, simulation, and colony building but feels very unique. So far my favorite way to describe it as as a western gang/posse simulator. You control a crew of ruffians in a rough world, and under ideal circumstances have everyone doing different tasks at once. The game engine isn’t quite there to fully realize it, it works just well enough to give you a taste.
New Kenshi player here, only watched a tiny bit of the video so far. I honestly enjoy learning about the game and the world as I play instead of just being told. I'm sure I'll be back, though I understand wanting to know as much as you can. This game is not easy and one simple misstep can get your squad wiped before you can say "BEEP IS THE STRONGEST WARRIOR". I started out as a wanderer tin man, trying to make him look like a clanker lol. Eventually I got a squad of Shek with my tin man together between Squinn and The Hub. Off the top of my head, I got Ruka, Kang, Rane The Giant and Hotlongs. I got pretty confident just grinding copper & iron for better gear while leveling up combat skills by luring bandits to the town guards for help. After exploring a little more of the Shek territories and finding a Hive village, I chanced upon a map of The Swamp, figured it'd be fun to check out Shark after about 15 hours or so. On my way to Shark, I got attacked by Red Sabres. I figured the worst that'd happen is that we'd be knocked out for a while. But in the middle of it some blood spiders popped up, but rather foolishly, I thought I'd just let them fight each other, then swoop in the take care of the scraps. Boy oh boy were there sooooo many damned blood spiders. By the time I realized the error of my ways, my group was too battered and too deep in the swamp to outrun them even after dropping as much gear as possible. Somehow Kang was able to regain consciousness, so I had him crawl away while the spiders weren't looking. Splinting the injuries didn't do much but somehow I got away, well at least half way to the nearest village oof. Every single one of us either bled out or got eaten alive by the blood spiders, even the Red Sabres. My robot was the last to succumb to its injuries on a typical rainy night surrounded by spiders. Just watched the rain for a while after that. Decided I'd reload a save to see Shark. Now I'm grinding again but with Blood Spiders instead of bandits. Kind of feel like I'm going to be trapped here for quite some time lol, not like I'm crazy enough to start a base in the Swamp, so in Shark I shall stay.
I just downloaded the game and going through you’re crash course introduction to Kenshi. T really appreciate you putting this guide out and sharing your experience and tips of the the game
Yo this is awesome!!! Thank you so much for this, just got Kenshi in the summer sale and am playing for my first time ever :) I got turned into a slave in 4 days :D
Old player who has not played in a LONG time getting back into it. Thanks much for the video, this is all a fantastic refresher and I learned some new stuff since I never got into base building either!
Very informative video. Thanks for making this infodump of a content! Well done! I recently got hooked in Kenshi- it was very tough at first but after a dozen starts, I enjoyed my playthroughs more and more.

Yeah just play atomic heart then. The RTS element isn't for you and that's totally fine. Hopefully you got the chance of getting your money back by requesting a refund from steam/gog.
@@FallingFoxGaming BTW it would be awesome if you can do a video about AI automation/jobs and how to take advantage of that farm/cook/forge automatically.
This video is AMAZING. I've tried this game twice, and I want to like it SO BADLY, but it just hasn't clicked. I want to give it another go and I found this video. It's a long one with a lot of word walls, but the information is SO GOOD. You then show examples of what you were explaining and it is just so helpful. This is even better than a let's play. Kenshi textbook! :) Thank you!
Appreciate the video, I'll admit just as you said I thought that by seeing the 2023 date that this would be more relevant to the current game; not realizing that there haven't been any major updates since your last videos. Mostly commenting to help boost the algorithm and to show my thanks.
Thanks for that algorithm bump! Honestly, I took a step back from Kenshi after I had some major gameplay issues after upgrading my rig. I've been been letting the game sit for a bit while the devs work on Kenshi 2, because I was hoping to hear something on it by now but there has been almost nothing released. I am hoping we hear something, anything soon.
Just got Kenshi today after thinking about it for a long time, loaded in, and realized I had literally no ides what to do. Thank you for this awesome guide.
Thank you for this well organized and easy to understand guide. I've had kenshi in my library for a while and was never sure the best way to start diving into it. This was a big help
Started a solo rock bottom run with my scorchlander “Splice” after getting out of UC territory Splice came across a nice tech hunter waypoint with a bar, general goods store and a broken tower for $21K. Managed to rat my way into getting a left arm Masterwork Skelton implant and a few 5 finger discount weapons that have been really good early game. Currently on research station 3 and have a couple of slaves that have the honor of getting beat into a smoothie every couple of days, life is good.
Iv just bought kenshi and no some basics could you give me a list of things i can do so i no what the game has to offer, things i no, you can bounty hunt, fight bandits, mine, kidnap clan bosses, build a base
Great video for beginners and for people with dozen hours of gameplay. Everything starts to make so much more sense to me now. Right now I have 5 people (2 of them or Shaks, real tanks) in my squad protecting 2 copper ore miners, i get around 12K per one such mining mission, it is quiet boring but most efficient way of earning in my opinion. Hungry bandits are not doing any harm to me anymore and dust bandits seem to be wiped out with almost no impact from my side. Honestly, I miss them quiet much. 1. How much money do I need to build a base and start a research? 2. Is it smart to buy a building in Squin to start the research part? 3. I feel like switching between characters doesn't move the camera at all. Making it impossible for split the team members in different squads and micro-manage them separately. As I cannot get to my Squad#2 if they are in a Hub and Squad#1 that i started to follow on the screen on their way to Squin. Am I the only one with the issue? Can the version of the game be the problem as I use Keshi-NewWorld from GOG? Appreciate if you can help me! Thank you in advance, guys!
omg I feel so dumb, i solved the 3rd question. Dare to double-click on the team member and it switches the camera as it should. Hahaha, Kenshi made me afraid even of clicking twice hahaha, it took me 20 hours to understand.
Thank you for making this! Only cemented that the super sneaky explorer / trader build I accidentally fell into is a good start. Just gonna explore and accrue money through trading and sneaking before I mess with building a base and having companions.
My sister bought me Kenshi last Christmas, just started playing about 3 days ago, and I’m addicted already, such a fun game! Awesome tips to help me on my way!
This is low-key / underrated the best game that has ever existed....vanilla alone is a masterpiece and the fact that it's such an acceptable moddable sandbox just makes it even more top 5 in anyone's scope of it 😊 .....the slave simulator start is by far the best way to start the game
@@lucky4638 It's honestly not that weird at all tbh. I'd be more surprised if there's no r-18 or cursed mod out there for a game. The internet is wild afterall lol
I will say base building is definitely not late game. Its a lot easier end game, but i have never had much trouble starting a base ASAP, before hiring extra people or training literally anything. You just cant build a base in a place you couldn't survive in usually. You can easily set up a base outside The Hub to grow your own food and set up a weapon producing industry to train a blacksmith. I never purchase a weapon in the game because it really is so easy to make your own from the start.
Looked at the game every now and then, just got it on cdkeys for seven quid, thanks for the rundown, even with it it seems a lot to take in at once trial and error will play a good part to iam sure, ill be sure to reskim this video after a while for anything that slipped the net, thanks for the help.
An amazing guide and introduction. I watched the video for 3 minutes and I already knew I had to buy the game. Then I proceeded to watch all the rest of the 109 minutes of the video. Great stuff! Really well done!
Thanks for this guide. Decided to replay Kenshi after 3 years of inactivity, and this was a great video to listen to in the background while I was traveling the world
This is a very good and comprehensive guide. Just watched it to refresh myself for another game after putting it off for a year or so. Thank you so much.😁
Didn't know what I was doing the first time around. Today I decided to give Kenshi another go. Made a nameless wandering merchant and his pack bull Glub. I love Glub
The prospecting button is sure not the most important part of the GUI, but it's not that useless when looking for a place to set a new base in a more "challenging" area. Iron and copper deposits are more or less easy to spot, but other resources, like water and fertility, are not, and the looks of the environment may get rather deceptive in that regard - so instead of a lot of tedious pixel hunting you should rather press "prospect" once in a while when moving around to see if, say, "water" is just tricky to find, or if it is not in the area at all.
After watching a lot of videos and having a lot of hesitation I finally bought the game 2 days ago and I really like it. For beginners like me there are also Squin's guard towers which are interesting for training fights on dummies even if it seems to have its limits. Thank you very much for this guide and your advice, without it I would have missed a lot of things. :)
I fallen in love with this game, and im watching this guide like a piece of cake ahaha. Anyway is one of the best guides I've seen in my life. No spoiler advices about how to enjoy the game and don't ruin self experience and super user friendly for who is not expert is this genre. Love your channel, you got a new sub!
I don’t know if anyone has pointed this out yet, but there’s no drawing, image, or video going on at around 1:04:40 (describing a V type base). It’s just a dark screen for like a minute.
I bought it on sale on Steam after seeing (I think) its potential on various channels on TH-cam, which made it look fun and different. I think I see that it's deep, immersive and option-heavy, but I admit it's so different from everything else I've played that it IS a bit intimidating. Thanks for the upload, it should really help me get stuck in!
Great vIdeo man! I just bought kenshi for the first time and I have been watching your videos and I feel that it's significantly helped me out! Keep up the great work man ^_^

@@condorX2 I enjoy the game and as far as the camera thing I’m not sure about that I use the mouse for the camera all the time. Also holding shift isn’t a thing for me either. I think the thing to keep in mind is how this game is meant to be played. This game doesn’t hold your hand like most games. This is one of those games you either like it or you don’t unfortunately. As far as the ores go they can all be clicked on to see names and types and most different veins have their own sprites. Finally the graphics, this game isn’t supposed to be HD besides man this game is 10 years old XD.
@@condorX2 I have been exploring new areas and towns. And recently been building a base of my own in the fog lands. For fun I also decided so wage war on the holy outlaws and now they send legions after me so I spend a lot of my time killing them for loot and xp. But I also added workshop content (mods) for new areas, enemies, towns, outposts, etc.
Great guide FallingFoxGaming! Well done my friend! Been playing the game nonstop for a few days what an unique and original game! Recommend for anyone.
A lengthy but very well-detailed guide to this game. I've read it was very difficult to play so I've avoided purchasing it. Thanks to this video, I have a good idea how to play so there is hope.
Glad I can help. To be honest, it's not that the game is hard to play, it's more of you have to be in the right mindset to play. The game is supposed to be one big long grind that has no real end and so you have to keep yourself entertained. If you can do that it's a lovely game.
it was really fantastic, thanks bunch :) from a samurai lives on a far far island covered in mist, mindless robot, giant dead leviathans and of course the Queen which is worshiped.
Ooh, nice. I wasn't expecting this. I watched the 2022 videos, and they were great. Very helpful. I'm stupidly blanking on where I first saw Kenshi, about a month ago. TH-cam review? Review on PC Gamer? I dunno, something like that. This is gonna be another one like RimWorld, with which I shamefully look at my 2,000 hours of playtime, in a year or two.
It's okay to rush around honestly. One of the most fun things, in my opinion, is just starting a new game with a bit more knowledge than the previous game. As much as the grind can be annoying, I've always enjoyed the just starting out aspect of these types of games.
There is one perfect location to build... On the green plains area with all the rivers, you can wall off an island so that the only way to get to your gates is via a long swim. Irrelevant of who attacks your base, you can turn them into swiss cheese with projectiles, as well as being able to escape everything if you train your toons to swim fast. Using that location, you can easily farm armies for loot and pretty much anything will grow there.
I tried the 5 guys mode first. Had no idea what I was doing. Was starving, so figured hey there are some goats here. First time in 37 years i've had my ass handed by a goat. 10/10 would play again!
I noticed that if you have no men in your faction and the church people come by for prayer they will get mad that there are no men and come back with large army to wipe you out. I started base building right from the start near the rebel base outside the hub and thus happened to me haha All I did was when they arrived, I left my base and watched them, from a nearby hill, run inside the one building I had and they just stayed in there for about 15 min and then left.
if you hire a guy before the come back, they get are like "oh we thought there were no men here, anyway try not to take on too many women, its hard work" heh
You're welcome! At the moment I cannot as I have been away from Kenshi for a little while and am not sure what is all updated. If you look at my mod suggestion videos you can get an idea of some good ones, even though I am not sure they are updated currently.
The first time I ever played Kenshi I used the Space marine mod and was clearing out entire cities with just a couple of guys basically collapsing the entire world and watching it turn into chaos
1:38:28 hmm, I think I disagree with your opinion on backpacks. Tho, that's probably because, from the sounds of it, you don't micromanage your backpacks, which is something I do all the time. Because you can equip a backpack, fill it with loot and then just carry the backpack inside your inventory instead of on your back. This does 2 things. Firstly, you trade out the negative modifiers that the backpack provides, for more encumbrance. Secondly, it allows you to carry a second backpack with you, giving you even more inventory space. This is especially useful when you want to carry a lot of items that don't weight a lot, but do take up a lot of space in your inventory (like building materials) An added benefit of this, is that this easily increases your encumbrance, allowing you to gain strength, meaning you'll be able to carry even more in the future. And, if at any point, you're being slowed down too much, you can put your backpack back on your back, and get closer to your base speed. I also want to specifically adres the combat penalty argument against large backpacks. Why are you wearing any backpack during combat in the first place? All of them give penalties, if you:re actively engaging in combat, I think it's safe to assume you're staying within the same general area? So why don't you just throw your backpack onto the ground and pick it back up after the fight is over?
@ it’s a smidge frustrating at times, feels like going back to Morrowind in regards to questing but something about this game keeps drawing me back lol, makes me helllaaaa excited for Kenshi 2!!
@@MelodicDG2 Yep, the Marrowind vibes is what originally got me into Kenshi. The lack of help to the player is refreshing sometimes. One thing I could recommend is taking it slow and not trying to rush into it. You'll enjoy the journey a lot more if you're playing at a chill pace.
Ive never seen any mention this but, understanding that the Forgotten Construction Set editor isnt for everyone, however, if you edit your character's weapon smithing to 999, then create any weapon your chance to crit a super weapon is guaranteed. Then create your weapon of choice. No matter your research level, it will be orders of magnitude better, like, Excaliber or something. Huge damage. For example, the highest rsearched Katana will have an exhilarating cutting of 54 as a model # Edge Type 2. Funny enough, Type 3 is not as good. Weird. This katana's value is c.320,000 sell at c.80,000. Try it. You can always edit back to normal if you please....as a Sword Master!!!
Your wrong about the block option, it's fantastic. The block option can be used to quickly increase a characters defense using a prisoner, without damaging the prisoner and having excessive amounts of down time between training. I've also experimented with clicking it on and off strategically during a fight, which has seemed to give me a decent edge.
if you wanna do a crossbow build to a new character. IT is advisable to make sure they equip a shitty crossbow. Talking from experience. I have my 70 stat character nearly died to a bolt on the head while dealing with some random ninjas. because I found a stupid Masterwork Eagle's cross and decided to equip it on a character with 0 experience on crossbows.
LOL! The weapon type doesn't matter as long as you like the way it looks! I would only purpose that you should pick at least two types of weapons if your favorite is one that gets a penalty for being indoors. Have at least a backup for indoors. Lots of really good options that weigh almost nothing. Also like to have some people focus on the various polearms that tenda have bonuses against animals, because getting that sweet sweet nectar of the alpha is no easy task to create the alpharum for your bulktrader pass!
Honestly not sure if that's a mod or not, I have way too many mods. Fallout and Star Wars pack mods. The moon in the sky on my kenshi world is the Death Star, and it's pretty awesome. Lol
On my first playthrough in 2024 but I refuse to restart no matter what. I was enslaved for the first 30 days…now I have reached freedom and have some steady income and even a friend to tag along and help with the work! Love this game and can’t believe I’ve never played it
I did want to mention one thing, and maybe you did, but one of the things you can brute force for new players base building is to just build a TON of batteries. I didn't see you go over those, and when you are building a lot of stuff and your power source is just wind, batteries on batteries can make things go SO smooth.
I didn't mention it because honestly new players aren't going to be doing too much that requires power. Batteries are nice if you need that extra power 24 hours a day, but usually you can just let it go and it'll take a bit longer but everything will complete itself still.
You could probably do it just fine if you adjusted the setting of how quickly you starve. Food will be your number one concern with 20 people. If you use mods to add more food and stuff to vendors you could be good too.
Just bought the game today (55% off on Steam right now) I've put 100s of hours into games like Rimworld etc.. Super pumped to dive into this over winter break! :D
I saw somebody complaining about view movement and the keyboard if you would make a video on an experts keyset that would be cool like telling people that you can literally use the ctrl key to move view around easily.
I haven't read any comments so it may have already been said. The Medic job (along with Splint & Robotics healing) will still be done regardless if the JOBS button is not switched on. I always assign these 3 things as soon as I have a new squad member as I prefer them all to be able to heal automatically instead of micro-managing just one squad member like some people setup.
Multiple jobs usually only bug out when they are in the wrong order, pure and simple. The list may look right but on closer inspection it all becomes clear where you may have screwed up. I honestly can't remember any of my squad members jobs bugging out (played 3500+ hrs so far) - and believe me when I say some have well over 30 jobs in their list at one time with multiple members also having 30 plus jobs. I've even had a solo playthrough where that one guy did everything, using every single vanilla crafting machine in the game along with plenty of new modded machinery - all working beautifully - yes, it took me a while to work out how I wanted him to do stuff but it worked when done correctly. Kenshi's old engine will do it but it needs to be done right. As for building bugs - there can be some bugs but again, these are usually user error. If not, ctrl+shift+F11 works most of the time to reset the navmesh (which also helps sometimes with towns you come across & errant squad members/NPC's. I sometimes also use the shift+F12 UI where you can simply click FIX, then click EXIT (never click SAVE in that UI unless you want to for a mod you are editing in game), this one often fixing inaccessible buildings or the like.
Well, I've started playing yesterday. Chose the wonderer start and put the hunger slider all the way left... Thinking that it made hunger slower... Oh well. I found myself running everwhere and when I'm pursued by a ything, I run back to the Hub. Made a fortune lol.
thats easy starting tactics to earn easy money at start. most broken op thing for money is thievery. you can basically steal items in one town, sell them in another, and the items you sold are actually physically transferred into containers of the merchant you sold it to. so you can steal them again after just selling them
Thanks for watching! Don't forget to leave a like and subscribe of you haven't!
Update
The no quest part is either lazy on the developer part or they want us all to become criminals.
@@osric1730 nice post xD
I have a question. How many times have you died from Kenshi ?
@@osric1730 I see.
Follow up question. How long did it took you to get rich?
As someone who has watched Kenshi let's plays for years but hasn't ever tried the game, this is a really helpful introduction. I've now downloaded the game and will start trying to survive!
Good luck! Remember dying is the only option... wait that isn't right... I can't remember the saying but you'll probably die... a lot... sooooo.... don't feel bad XD
Hive prince is the best race.
It's been two months, give us an update friend
Ye how it going?
We need an update!
As someone who plays this game to that point of frustration then puts it down for a while and comes back months later, I thank you for this guide to remind me of some things. I've started keeping notes of myself of some of the basics but this video really helps out a ton too.
Glad I could help!
When you aren't a beginner but you want Kenshi content. Seriously though thanks for making this guide so the community keeps growing!
Happy to help!
outside the hub, there are 3 easy to reach full copper, 2 small copper, 4 full iron and at least 2 small iron nodes.
if you're mining in the hub, buy a shack or two, and put iron & copper storage inside them.
when mining within range of a storage, your characters will automatically haul to the storage when the resource's storage fills. means you can mine 100 (or more with mods) per storage without having to pay too much attention or sell every 10 ore or so.
also, for more combat oriented players, a sneaky trick at the start in the hub is to go into sneak mode in the inn and purposefully fail a KO attempt against the 'bar thug'.
they are the only member of their faction in the town, and when they defend themselves, it is they, not you who 'starts' the combat, meaning the guards will knock them out pretty fast, so all you have to do is run upstairs after they attack then loot them when the guards dump them outside.
their kit isn't great, but it's a massive step up from your starting kit, unless you are going full stealth.
For me, the moment I stop paying attention to the game something awful happens to my team
(Still mentions CHASE mode and the blueprint backpack bug that was fixed a while back)
20:29 (Pause) 0x Speed, 1x Speed, 2x Speed, 5x Speed in case anyone is curious.
You can get 1-90 Dexterity in around a game day if we only count time spent fighting/healing without cheese :)
30:00 Tip from a Kenshi nerd here.
Funny little bug :)
32:30 All weapons do that if you do enough damage.
Apparently, people keep needing me around the house every 5 seconds so going to quit adding stuff for now.
#TRUTHBOMB 🤯🙏🔥
On the spirit of the post, I'll point out that characters *can* get up with negative chest/stomach/head, so long as none of the three have gone below your KO point (set by toughness, goes from the -20ies at low stats all the way up to -85 at max toughness)
Once your character goes below their KO point they do get into a coma and won't get up till all 3 vitals have gone above 0
Bought the game today during the summer sale. I've watched kenshi content and was interested but saw playing as overwhelming. This guide game me the confidence to give it a go and I love it. Thank you taking the time to put this together
Glad I could help! You're welcome!
I love making characters in this game and that’s it lol I’m currently playing Morrowind for the first time and it scratches every itch that this game can’t scratch. I’m sorry but every start in this game gimps you so hard that it is not possible to kill anything in a 1v1 without grinding stats or using exploits
Are you less gai now?
I love how after upgrading from my GTX 1060 to an 3060ti one of the first few games I decide to play is Kenshi
That's the exact same thing I did too!
Lol im playing on a gtx 960, assembling a PC with 7900 XT, and im pretty hyped to get back into Kenshi when im done building, just goes to show how much fun engaging gameplay matters regardless of graphics
Get a new 27 inch 1440p monitor if you haven't already. Way sharper picture and you can see more on screen.
Isn't it funny how many new people keep coming? Makes me very excited for Kenshi 2. Just sent this vid to a friend.
There isn't going to be a Kenshi 2 lol
@@INFJ-ThaneTrthey’re literally making the game right now
New Kenshi player here, only watched a tiny bit of the video so far.
Crystal clear loads of valuable info, thanks a lot man, you got a new sub. Keep up the nice work.

Yo this is awesome!!! Thank you so much for this, just got Kenshi in the summer sale and am playing for my first time ever :)

Very informative video. Thanks for making this infodump of a content! Well done!
I recently got hooked in Kenshi- it was very tough at first but after a dozen starts, I enjoyed my playthroughs more and more.
You're welcome! And thanks!
Not me. It's a crappy game. I fell for fake reviews and hypes.
😢
@@mistervertigogaming thank you! And you are very welcome! I'm glad it comes in handy!
Thank you for this guide. It was super detailed and helpful. 🙏
You're very welcome!
I'm glad I could help! It's a great game once you get past the learning curve! Enjoy!
I'd highly reccomed to just buy a house in town in the beginning, fix it up and use as temporary base
Currently on research station 3 and have a couple of slaves that have the honor of getting beat into a smoothie every couple of days, life is good.
ive gone from watching people play to finally
playing myself thank to this video. thank man
Iv just bought kenshi and no some basics could you give me a list of things i can do so i no what the game has to offer, things i no, you can bounty hunt, fight bandits, mine, kidnap clan bosses, build a base
Thanks for taking the time to make this vid my friend! Off I go to the rabbit hole
This is a great beginners video thank you for doing this 😀
Thank you! And you're very welcome!
My sister bought me Kenshi last Christmas, just started playing about 3 days ago, and I’m addicted already, such a fun game! Awesome tips to help me on my way!
Glad I can help! Enjoy the journey!
Thanks for the tips; still relevant to this day
This is low-key / underrated the best game that has ever existed....vanilla alone is a masterpiece and the fact that it's such an acceptable moddable sandbox just makes it even more top 5 in anyone's scope of it 😊 .....the slave simulator start is by far the best way to start the game
yeah it is great but some of the people on the modding community are a bit weird, theres like nude mods and stuff and its weird as shit
This guide was so helpful. Just subscribed.
Thank you very much!
Thanks for this guide. Decided to replay Kenshi after 3 years of inactivity, and this was a great video to listen to in the background while I was traveling the world
Just got into Kensho after looking at it for years.
Was way easier to learn than I was expecting.
The funny thing is, came looking for a guide yesterday and found your channel. Thanks for all the useful info!
You're welcome! And thank you for watching!
You're welcome! I am glad it helped!
I'm new to kenshi and have taken a dive. Its life
I fallen in love with this game, and im watching this guide like a piece of cake ahaha. Anyway is one of the best guides I've seen in my life. No spoiler advices about how to enjoy the game and don't ruin self experience and super user friendly for who is not expert is this genre. Love your channel, you got a new sub!
Thank you very much for the kind words! I love the game too! I am glad you found it enjoyable to watch!
This was great, thanks! I'm currently the greatest hero of the holy nation and it's hilarious and now I've told someone. 😂
Thanks, needed a refresher after a few years not playing.
I don’t know if anyone has pointed this out yet, but there’s no drawing, image, or video going on at around 1:04:40 (describing a V type base). It’s just a dark screen for like a minute.
Yeah, it's been said lol. A error in editing...twice. it's explained a bit later in the video. Sorry about that!
Thanks, I already knew a lot of this stuff, but it's still been useful as I get back into the game.
Cool, yeah, watched whole thing. Thanks for the info.😊
Thank you! and you're welcome!
Great vIdeo man! I just bought kenshi for the first time and I have been watching your videos and I feel that it's significantly helped me out! Keep up the great work man ^_^

How is the game working for you?
It's a crappy game for me. I fell for fake reviews and hypes.

@@stevenrandall0806 I have a few questions. How many times have you died so far? What do you do for fun?
Cheers
@@condorX2 I have been exploring new areas and towns. And recently been building a base of my own in the fog lands. For fun I also decided so wage war on the holy outlaws and now they send legions after me so I spend a lot of my time killing them for loot and xp. But I also added workshop content (mods) for new areas, enemies, towns, outposts, etc.
Great guide FallingFoxGaming! Well done my friend! Been playing the game nonstop for a few days what an unique and original game! Recommend for anyone.
Thanks! I know, it's so underrated!
Kenshi is on sale, came here bcos I always get beaten to death by bandits ☺
Ahh yes, also known as the Kenshi welcoming committee!
:)
“In the interest of not making a 2 hour video”
Makes a 2 hour video 😂
I love it tho I needed all this info.
This is a collection of my miniseries, so it was originally a bunch of videos. :)

Welcome to the family!
Thanks dude, a lot of stuff became much cleaner for me. I really rush the game too much, I should look around more.
Using that location, you can easily farm armies for loot and pretty much anything will grow there.
finally, *THIS* is the video i was looking for.
_HOW_ to play the game, not just WHAT to do, mislabelled as a how-to
Yep, number one reason I made this video right there. Glad you appreciate the work!
Very very well made! Thank you bro!
Thanks for the compliment! You're also very welcome!
I tried the 5 guys mode first. Had no idea what I was doing. Was starving, so figured hey there are some goats here. First time in 37 years i've had my ass handed by a goat. 10/10 would play again!
same here hahaha but with a lone wanderer
1:05:25 it's not just me, the screen is black right?
Sorry about that, editing mistake from old videos got left in. We discuss it a bit later in the video though.
@FallingFoxGaming all good! Just appreciate you putting out content
@jaysonp9426 thanks!
The guards knocked out a guy with a 8000 currency bounty outside the city and by the time I figured out how to pick him up he woke up.
I noticed that if you have no men in your faction and the church people come by for prayer they will get mad that there are no men and come back with large army to wipe you out. I started base building right from the start near the rebel base outside the hub and thus happened to me haha
All I did was when they arrived, I left my base and watched them, from a nearby hill, run inside the one building I had and they just stayed in there for about 15 min and then left.
if you hire a guy before the come back, they get are like "oh we thought there were no men here, anyway try not to take on too many women, its hard work" heh
Thanks for the video! Can you recommand a specific modpack?
You're welcome! At the moment I cannot as I have been away from Kenshi for a little while and am not sure what is all updated. If you look at my mod suggestion videos you can get an idea of some good ones, even though I am not sure they are updated currently.
Just bought this on sale and listening to this while at work - I'm very excited to try it!
pretty much same for me
Do you like it so far doing the same lol
The first time I ever played Kenshi I used the Space marine mod and was clearing out entire cities with just a couple of guys basically collapsing the entire world and watching it turn into chaos
Tis a good mod for sure. Sometimes you just need to eliminate a planet.
Great guide very helpful thank you!!
You're welcome and thanks for the compliment!
This is especially useful when you want to carry a lot of items that don't weight a lot, but do take up a lot of space in your inventory (like building materials)
An added benefit of this, is that this easily increases your encumbrance, allowing you to gain strength, meaning you'll be able to carry even more in the future.
Really damn good video mate👏
Thanks!
This game feels loke a spiritual successor to the first fallout game in some ways
I agree, there is for sure some heavy inspiration drawn from it.
Impressive guide, have a like and subscribe.
Thanks!
Desperately needed this lol, wanna get into kenshi, its just so damn confusing LOL
It can be overwhelming, but it's also tons of fun once you get the hang of it!
You'll enjoy the journey a lot more if you're playing at a chill pace.
i love how based the takes on race and weapon choice are;
Thank you for the info dude.
@@ToBeContinued-cc4pd glad I can help!
Yep, very much so XD gotta love nuking your own party members by finding a bow too good for your guy.
Lol
Eh. I've never cared so much about that 95 percent of the time you can just kite them outside and beat them there.
Brother, you made such an amazing video! Keep it up!
Thanks!
I learned a lot and am excited to get into this game! Thanks!
Glad I could help!
1:05:06 Ah yes love the design.
Yep! The black screen secret special! 😅
Great tutorial mate, gonna re download the game and play it again now
Go for it! And thank you!
Total newbie here, is it possible to go out adventuring with 20+ guys? I like the idea of being a nomad venturing and doing random stuff along the way
You could probably do it just fine if you adjusted the setting of how quickly you starve. Food will be your number one concern with 20 people. If you use mods to add more food and stuff to vendors you could be good too.
Just bought the game today (55% off on Steam right now) I've put 100s of hours into games like Rimworld etc.. Super pumped to dive into this over winter break! :D
Weirdly my best start so far has been rock-bottom, waiting for guards to kill enemies really helped
I saw somebody complaining about view movement and the keyboard if you would make a video on an experts keyset that would be cool like telling people that you can literally use the ctrl key to move view around easily.
That's not a bad idea. *thumbs-up*
600 hrs since day 1 launch, still watched anyway, great video
Thanks!
My brother bought me _Kenshi_ as an Xmas present so this should come in handy

SURVIVE :D THAT is the only guide :D
Well, I've started playing yesterday. Chose the wonderer start and put the hunger slider all the way left... Thinking that it made hunger slower... Oh well.
I found myself running everwhere and when I'm pursued by a ything, I run back to the Hub. Made a fortune lol.
thats easy starting tactics to earn easy money at start.
most broken op thing for money is thievery.
you can basically steal items in one town, sell them in another, and the items you sold are actually physically transferred into containers of the merchant you sold it to.
so you can steal them again after just selling them
