New Kenshi player here, only watched a tiny bit of the video so far. I honestly enjoy learning about the game and the world as I play instead of just being told. I'm sure I'll be back, though I understand wanting to know as much as you can. This game is not easy and one simple misstep can get your squad wiped before you can say "BEEP IS THE STRONGEST WARRIOR". I started out as a wanderer tin man, trying to make him look like a clanker lol. Eventually I got a squad of Shek with my tin man together between Squinn and The Hub. Off the top of my head, I got Ruka, Kang, Rane The Giant and Hotlongs. I got pretty confident just grinding copper & iron for better gear while leveling up combat skills by luring bandits to the town guards for help. After exploring a little more of the Shek territories and finding a Hive village, I chanced upon a map of The Swamp, figured it'd be fun to check out Shark after about 15 hours or so. On my way to Shark, I got attacked by Red Sabres. I figured the worst that'd happen is that we'd be knocked out for a while. But in the middle of it some blood spiders popped up, but rather foolishly, I thought I'd just let them fight each other, then swoop in the take care of the scraps. Boy oh boy were there sooooo many damned blood spiders. By the time I realized the error of my ways, my group was too battered and too deep in the swamp to outrun them even after dropping as much gear as possible. Somehow Kang was able to regain consciousness, so I had him crawl away while the spiders weren't looking. Splinting the injuries didn't do much but somehow I got away, well at least half way to the nearest village oof. Every single one of us either bled out or got eaten alive by the blood spiders, even the Red Sabres. My robot was the last to succumb to its injuries on a typical rainy night surrounded by spiders. Just watched the rain for a while after that. Decided I'd reload a save to see Shark. Now I'm grinding again but with Blood Spiders instead of bandits. Kind of feel like I'm going to be trapped here for quite some time lol, not like I'm crazy enough to start a base in the Swamp, so in Shark I shall stay.

loved the video man . like all these nice people in the comment section , im doing the same thing i dropped their artifact and their ship and went on my own making money so i can buy my own ship so i can leave the planet , it is so fun i didnt expect to enjoy the game like that it was really hard at first ( like how it should be to buy a ship ) i went outside of new atlantis to find some valuables then boom a terramorph attacking an ecliptic patrol ...i ran away but i got really lucky 10 min after that by finding an outpost where ecliptic dudes had a ship parked outside , i stole it and ran away i freaking loved that moment. ( im lvl20 and i didnt join their stupid club at all )

This is what I am currently doing also. Primarily because the main story line sucks. I've completed it once on a different playthrough and didn't bother continuing with NG+. I hate all the space magic, starborn, multiverse stuff. It's just lazy, poor writing. Everything else is pretty well done. The game should have been about exploration and discovery. Maybe finding an intelligent sentient race of beings and dealing with how that affects all the settled systems. I hate how the game pigeon holes you into the main plot line. Fortunately there are ways around doing it but you lose interaction with the main characters. I have just gotten my own ship and recruited two crew members. Now MY adventure begins.

Best way to avoid main story is to stay on Kreet.

I'm 81, exploring every system before starting The Old Neighborhood. Joined the Fleet for access to Kryx. 36 systems surveyed fully. Also going to max out on the 1st run before doing major major quests. Like defeating the UC is a major major.

Interesting that you didn't want to do the UC Flight simulator to get the kills without damaging yourself.

Im all about avoiding emiltent. Its so yucky when your playing a bethesda game and you accidentally step in emils gross 1st grader logic quests and it never helps that he tries to loop it back on ya, like no i wont try daddy issues chosen one sandwich emil go away! Haha

More im interested to where this goes. I've starfield to play starfield again due to the DLC

i mean im pleased these days you can mod the game enough to remove the whole limitations or even alter the limitations of it so to speak so naturally you could easily start a fresh character , not have to do the opening and then ultimately "Find a ship" or "Steal one"

On my first playthrough in 2024 but I refuse to restart no matter what. I was enslaved for the first 30 days…now I have reached freedom and have some steady income and even a friend to tag along and help with the work! Love this game and can’t believe I’ve never played it

Pro tip most Meta gamers will try to convince you most of the races on kenshi suck. This is the opposite of true. They say sheks eat too much to be viable and this is also untrue. Sure early game I don’t recommend a dozen heavy armored spikemen but mid to late game well trained shek will rip all of your problems to pieces. I’ve never had a shek loses a limb in combat after 1100 hours. Similar vein is the often slept on solider drone. I just think they are neat but have all of positives people like to ignore. First up they have almost all the same buffs as the shek but eat less than half as much. They also eat garbage off the floor and I mean foul raw meat. It’s literally worthless and it’s everywhere. Solider drones just require a stat investment and then you suit them up in the heaviest armor you can find. “What about their hey Arnold sized noggin they can’t wear helmets?” Literally never is a problem, like never, I always keep a cool ole soldiers every run and they’ve never been ko’d by head shot. Like literally never they are good boys and ray is just better beep, much better beep. Getting both is a must tho, it’s tradition

My experience with the game so far: -Start as freedom seekers and set up an outpost right next to water -dudes come and say I need to pay taxes and I say no - I send a man into town to get building supplies, a slaver party sent by the tax collector raids my outpost and takes everyone but 1 who managed to escape - the one who escaped meets with the one in town, we need money so I steal from a shopkeeper and try to sell his goods back to him - get thrown in jail and both characters died in the jail - one of the ones taken as a slave was eaten alive Game is unforgiving.

Finally grabbed this game on sale for $13 CAD the other day. Really nice guide. What are some other methods of early game moneymaking other than mining? Also "You start at The Hub...you won't have to worry about too many dangers, that is one of the safest locations in all of the game for new players" I literally wandered out of the city into a canyon and immediately got jumped by like 10 bandits and bled out on the ground lol.

This video is AMAZING. I've tried this game twice, and I want to like it SO BADLY, but it just hasn't clicked. I want to give it another go and I found this video. It's a long one with a lot of word walls, but the information is SO GOOD. You then show examples of what you were explaining and it is just so helpful. This is even better than a let's play. Kenshi textbook! :) Thank you!

Great video for beginners and for people with dozen hours of gameplay. Everything starts to make so much more sense to me now. Right now I have 5 people (2 of them or Shaks, real tanks) in my squad protecting 2 copper ore miners, i get around 12K per one such mining mission, it is quiet boring but most efficient way of earning in my opinion. Hungry bandits are not doing any harm to me anymore and dust bandits seem to be wiped out with almost no impact from my side. Honestly, I miss them quiet much. 1. How much money do I need to build a base and start a research? 2. Is it smart to buy a building in Squin to start the research part? 3. I feel like switching between characters doesn't move the camera at all. Making it impossible for split the team members in different squads and micro-manage them separately. As I cannot get to my Squad#2 if they are in a Hub and Squad#1 that i started to follow on the screen on their way to Squin. Am I the only one with the issue? Can the version of the game be the problem as I use Keshi-NewWorld from GOG? Appreciate if you can help me! Thank you in advance, guys!

Something that should be mentioned is that traveling at max speed greatly increases the chance of the game crashing.

I bought it on sale on Steam after seeing (I think) its potential on various channels on TH-cam, which made it look fun and different. I think I see that it's deep, immersive and option-heavy, but I admit it's so different from everything else I've played that it IS a bit intimidating. Thanks for the upload, it should really help me get stuck in!

A lengthy but very well-detailed guide to this game. I've read it was very difficult to play so I've avoided purchasing it. Thanks to this video, I have a good idea how to play so there is hope.
