    Here is a proper immigrant. Likes us and our culture and wishes to join in and assimilate. Finds a job and somewhere to live to become part of the community. I, for one, am flattered so thank you and welcome. Far cry from getting smuggled in or landing on the beach off a rubber boat then demanding all the benefits possible.

      Don't believe the bullshit you hear about immigrants. Most are just like this girl and are happy to be in the UK and respect living here. That's never a good conversation though....people just want to tell us the negaitve shit.

      That would have been far more likely if Labour had won. As it is the Tories want to introduce a points based system as opposed to Labour's insane open door policy.

      @@ivorbiggun710 Yet 2yrs down the line where is this immigration policy? Priti Pattel promised she'd crackdown on illegal immigrants yet more and more people are turning up in Kent by the blow up boat load.

    I have toured Romania many times in our campervan. The reasons we love going back again: the people are SO friendly, the countryside is wild and unspoilt, the cities (well, many of them) are "unimproved" unlike so many western cities, where "improvement" meant knocking history down and putting up modern rubbish. A case in point is Timisoara. We only went there because that was where the revolution started and we wanted to see a piece of history. What we found was glorious Hapsburg architecture - shabby and in need of repair - but stall standing and being renovated. A spectacular Romanian Orthodox cathedral, and a developing cafe society. We have been to Timisoara several times, because it is close to the Hungarian border so is on the way home.
    There is SO MUCH to see in Romania - the painted monasteries, the "Merry Cemetery", the folk festivals, Sigisoara - home of Vlad Dracul "Dracula", the Saxon villages that King Charles was doing so much to protect. We LOVE Romania (but Bulgaria? Not so much!)

    Good to see a perspective of UK living from yourself living up north, or better worded in the North of the UK, and not based in the Southern perspective, so refreshing. I come from the North East of the UK so maybe biased, so aye up, it not so grim up north. BTW sub'd to view your other channel vids later. Bad or good. Have fun.
    Edit:- A visit to your local pub, first reaction, and now reaction. As in your first time in the pub, all eyes on you, till the local gossip goes round, and you become part of the place. Iknow it may cost a bit more than having a drink at home, but it may break ice.

    You and your bf are very welcome here. A major issue over the 2004 decision to allow eastern block people free movement is how our government of the time didnt provide the infrastructure needed for the population increase. All the people who ive met from those countries are hardworking and decent people who are an asset to this country. Our media on the other hand would rather just call everyone racists. Your lucky where you are living ive never been to the lake district and probably never will now. Where im from is Peterborough in the east just above Cambridge. Here it is flat just flat and below sea level in parts as well. I hope that you make a good life for you both and enjoy our country

    I agree with your comment about the supermarket checkout scanning. Most cashiers scan at your pace so that you can pack in time with the scanning. Except LIDL cashiers. I have only shopped twice in LIDL and both times the cashiers scanned really fast and I couldn't keep up. And, LIDL don't want you to pack at the till - even when there are no other customers. I'm not shopping there again. The LIDL culture is not in line with British culture. So glad that you're enjoying yourself in the Lake District. Enjoyed your video Tina.

    • @TinaAbroad
      @TinaAbroad  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Lidl and Aldi are doing the same, it's hard to keep up with them even just putting your shopping back in the basket. I'm glad you enjoyed my video, thank you for watching 😄

    • @smudger671
      @smudger671 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I always pack at the checkout in Lidl and Aldi - I don't see the point in unloading shopping, putting it in a basket, and then packing it again. Ridiculous!

    • @macca8562
      @macca8562 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have a friend who used to work for LIDL, they are told they must scan a certain amount of articles an hour, that's why they scan so quick, which i find stupid when sometimes there is hardly anyone in the shop.

    • @nigelmchugh5541
      @nigelmchugh5541 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The challenge is to arrange your shopping on the belt in such a way that allows you pack fast.
      Then you try and grace the cashier, and bag up faster that they can scan... :D

    Wow Tina what supermarket do you go to, I am a British man who is disabled and when I go to a supermarket where I live, they scan my shopping at a speed that feels like 100 mph and I can't keep up putting my shopping in my shopping bags. I suffer with traumatic tremors plus they never help me. I live on my own in a sheltered accommodation. I suppose it's because that I am a man that they don't care. I am now thinking of doing my shopping on line because of the dreadful treatment that I get at supermarket checkouts. I wish you and your boyfriend well and stay safe. 💂‍♂️💂‍♂️💂‍♂️💂‍♂️🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪

If I go to Aldi or Lidl I don't even try to pack I just quickly put everything straight back in the trolley and pack outside. I am so sorry to hear that they treat you that way. Is it possible to change the supermarket? We wish you all the best! 🇷🇴 🇵🇱 🇬🇧

    • @TinaAbroad

      In Romania and Poland it's normal for a man to hold a door for a women, it's always ladies go first and so on. In a village people are very friendly, they say hello and even start a conversation with you even if they don't know you and like to be helpful and love to give great hospitality. In the cities is where it gets different, younger generations are friendlier and more open minded but some of the older generations that also grew up in communism had a hard life unfortunately and had to work and struggle too hard to provide for their family, so you do find people that are more 'stressed' ...

    So nice to read such positive comments. I have not been to the Lake District since I was about 10 and I'm 62 now, but I remember it as being a beautiful place. You're also a great example of a European visitor liking it in the UK and deciding to stay. I have chatted to a Romanian girl who worked at a cafe' I used to visit often in Bristol and Polish people too. I think it is great that you and others come from Europe and elsewhere, which is why I think Brexit is such a tragedy. Meeting with other nationalities, chatting and sharing ideas hopes and dreams is how friendships are forged between people, cultures and nations, which can only be a good thing, to promote better understanding and peaceful coexistence. I have travelled quite a bit, and have been living in the Philippines for some years. People are mostly good everywhere, if one takes the time to know them. I hope that you and others can continue to live and work with the same attitude that you clearly have. God bless you! 😃

      @@shellieeyre8758 Erm ... that is manifestly not so. I don't mean to invalidate your world view but, honestly, there truly is a major problem with immigration. Laying aside the issues with folk from certain regions and religions who don't wish to integrate and be British, the sheer volume of increase in the population of low-skill and unskilled labour is destabalising to the social fabric for those who are not in the Middle Classes or higher. It's not the fact of immigration that is the problem, don't read me wrong here; we have always had a flow of folk both in and out and that is a healthy thing for a society. It is the rate of population 'churn' that is the problem. Get that above more than 1% of the indigenous population level and you are restructuring your country in a way that is not reversible. Change is not always good.

    Good for you. Don't worry about what anyone might think of you coming here and 'stealing a job' - if you got a job then those people you now work for thought that you were the best person to do it... Hope you stay - its a nice story and you made the tough choice to leave your homeland and try somewhere completely new. Speaking great English would have been a really big help I think.

      Reading comments regarding Brexit, NO ONE IS going to be asked to leave, all legal EU settlers can apply for settled, permanent employment status. UK is law abiding and fair. People should not be frightened.

    Hi Tina,
    Your vocabulary, pronunciation is, I promise you, better than at the very least 40% of others, born into this country, and not to mention the number of ridiculous accents, many of which just lose me!
    Seriously, have you ever thought of being an interpreter?
    There is a great demand at the moment, because of immigrants, illegal or otherwise, and you are not tied to the phone, as long as you can accept some of the requests.
    My sister in law is French/Polish and speaks fluent French (only a little Polish) and finds it very rewarding, and interesting too!

    Since the Romanian accession to the EU millions of Romanians have left their homeland. The health service there has lost about a third of it's personnel. Fortunately the authorities are considering bringing in about 500.000 Pakistanis to make up the shortfall. Every cloud has a silver lining!
