    We thought you might like a look at this very original 1953 Mercury Monterey 2 dr hardtop. It's powered by the 255 flathead V8, backed by a 3spd Merc-o-matic automatic transmission. It features an original interior that has been very well-preserved. It runs and sounds great...this one is ready to go! Thanks for watching!

    Gorgeous color! Salmon perhaps? Last year before the transition to overhead valves. As a way to satisfy the public's interest and demand for OHV engines from Mercury its engineers somehow coaxed the 255.4 to put out a record 135 horsepower, which was pretty substantial for the time.Beautiful aircraft inspired instrument panel.
    The icing on the cake of course would be that fabulous hardtop roof along with Merc-O-Matic Drive.

      It is like Salmon, but a bit darker than many I've seen. Thanks for watching, we appreciate it!

      No doubt the most desirable and identifiable rumble in automotive history. No other engine sounds like a flathead V8. My dad used to sell mufflers at his Western Auto store. A popular low restriction - and therefore nice and throaty - muffler sold in those days was the brand name "Smitty's". Don't know if they still make them. This was, after all, nearing 70 years ago!

    Looks like a survivor dressed up a bit in the engine bay with the blue paint but I recon it's a very honest car.

      You're right Zig...I wish they had just left the engine alone. Thanks for watching!

    That is a very nice original Merc..You gotta like that dash with the levers...shame on them for painting the engine My Dad had a set of hubcaps like those ..He would put older car hubcaps on his pickup trucks which I always thought was cool

      @RamblinAround  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, that dashboard is pretty cool. If they were going to paint the engine, they at least should have gotten the color right. Thanks for watching!

    You know how many stars I'll rate this old girl. Who the hell is behind the terrible engine painting? The car owners, or the dealership? This seems to be a trend on your latest videos.

    • @RamblinAround

      I'm not sure who painted it, but I sure wish they hadn't. It definitely cheapens the look of the car. I'd have to do something about it, if it were mine. Thanks for taking a look my friend!

      Especially with the over spray. I can't speak for every classic car buyer, but this throws up red flags for me. When I was doing my pre Cyclone car shopping, I found a nice 1969 428 Galaxie on an Ebay auction. They were advertising it as all original, yet it had a fresh coat of paint on the engine.
      I just don't get it.

      I had a1953 Ford Flathead V8 and I believe the engine was a dull red (barn color).
