1953 Ford Mainline Sedan 239 Flat Head V8 UNBELIEVEABLE

  • This beautiful Mainline 2-door sedan has less than 75,000 original miles. It has been detailed and looked over, with attention given to the necessary items being restored. It is equipped with a 239ci engine with 3-speed manual transmission. Re chromed bumpers, well maintained, super fussy previous owner who loved this car. We have the original bill of sale, the original warranty book, the original hand book, and the original Ford book. The interior is strikingly beautiful, the headliner is like new, it drives out like you could leave for California today. Inside a "flight-style" control panel and new pedals suspended from below the dashboard. A voltmeter, gas gauge, temp. gauge, and oil pressure were standard.[2] The clock and radio were in the center of the dash. The grille sported a single center "bullet" surrounded by a chrome ring as well as "jet intake" corner markers. New trunk hinges were used that would not crush the contents of the trunk.

I have this exact 53 with the Ford-o-matic in the Customline style, same color with a dark blue top, in a four door, same tire/wheel set up. Recently swapped the generator for a Powermaster 6V alternator, wow, big difference for the flathead. We enjoy it

Just came across this video. Back in the early 90’s I worked at a travel plaza. An older man had the same car. He would stop in a couple times a week to get gas and stop in the restaurant to eat. Car looked new.

This was the same car my Dad had when I was born in 1957.Same colors in and out. He bought it when it was a year old and unfortunately Ohio rust really got the best of the body. He always said it ran like a top and that he would never buy another Ford because they stopped using the flathead 8. He drove it until 1962 and sold it to a co worker who drove it until the body became nonexistant and he drove it to the junkyard where somebody bought it and we saw it around for several more years.

Just a hint of a Canadian accent there I think,.....and I am Australian....... Beautiful car and lovely video. Ford stylists were supreme in the 50s/60s .....wish we could buy cars like this in Oz.....and American engineering had no peer then. Thanks for the video.

I owned one like this in 1959 when I was in high school. The water pumps were a real challenge. There was a nut on the inside of the pump as well as the outside. I replaced both water pumps. If you did not know that there was a nut on the inside of the pump you could not remove it. The flathead V8 has a unique sound that I miss to this day. It was a nice car to drive. It did not have seatbelts. There were ashtrays in the front and on the back of the seats for the people in back.

Nice car to actually drive instead of over restored and rides around on a trailer. When I was a kid my great grandfather had one of these. I don't know what trim level it was but from what I can remember it looked very much the same and was green also but a little brighter like the color of the engine in this one. It had a sun visor on it that I thought was different at the time. He drove it locally until he was 89 or 90 years old. He went on to live to the age of 101.

A neighbor in my old hood in the southwest side of Detroit worked just 2 miles away at the Ford Rouge. He owned a '53 Ford 2 door hardtop, V8 with a stick and never drove the car to work due to soot and hot ash from the foundry. The only time I saw the car was on a sunny Sunday for a few hours in front of his home. I swear it never saw rain. He traded it in on a '68 Mustang. At the time I was in the Army and found out it was gone when home on leave. There were a lot of old, spotless "Grampa" cars in that neighborhood and the only time you'd see them was on a sunny Sunday.

My neighbors on Long Island had a '54 Ford Mainline in a very similar color. I think it was closer to gray. It looked similar to this '53. They drove it until 1963. It had the Mileage Maker Six and 3 on the tree. It sounds crazy that a heater was a $65 option. Where was this car first sold? Probably not the northeast or midwest. The Ford Mainline was very popular with police departments in the early 50s. Ford was the #1 choice of law enforcement agencies throughout the 50s until Chrysler overtook them around 1960.
All that said, this '53 Ford looks like it just left the factory! It looks better than anything Ford is putting out today.

I adore 50's cars. They we're works of art. One problem they had was that most 50's cars had poor rust proofing. So they tended to rust out rather quickly I believe.

Ford always put the ignition switch on the left side of the dash until the 1964 model year. Probably because the choke control was on the right. They went to auto chokes on all models in 64.

GORGEOUS old Ford. I love these mint lower-line models. The clean simplicity is even more appealing than the weighed down top of line models. The 3-on-the-tree is typical for these, but having the V-8 option is not. They usually have the inline 6 "mileage-maker". That little beauty must fly down the road with it's lighter weight, 3-speed manual, and the flathead V8 upgraded to it's peak performance in '53 (it's final year). It's basically an early factory "muscle car". My father had the same car, but a '54, black, and a six. He put full hubcaps on it, skirts, and dual antenna's on the rear, as was common in the mid--'50's. He loved it..

I have a '52 Customline V8 coupe, same color. The linkage in the steering column went out and I replaced the trans with a T5, 5 sp. Stock gearing was 4:10 which is too low for modern day highways, so the overdrive in the easy shifting overdrive T5 makes this hugely fun!

My maternal grandfather had a '53 in the dark blue top/light blue body. It was equipped just like this beauty, save that it had the electro-mechanical Overdrive. After my mother inherited it (non-running condition), my stepfather rebuilt the whole power train (a project my mother suggested to him mainly to get him out from underfoot), and brakes, steering, wiring, interior, etc were restored, they had it repainted all one color, like the subject of this video. One Yuletide Season, visited them for two weeks, and used the '53 every day during that time -- hadn't had that much fun driving in years. The 52-54 Fords, all three trim lines, were such great cars.

In the mid 1950s automakers were developing the over-head-valve motors. This was the last year of the older flat head design but it was reliable. It would run and run but you had to be happy with about 110 hp.

    • @johnkendall6962
      @johnkendall6962 5 ปีที่แล้ว

To fords chagrin They found out their new inline 6 with over head valves made more horse power that their old flathead v-8 That was the real reason for the 10 hp increase in horse power in 1953. They worried that the public wouldn't buy the V-8 if they knew the smaller 6 made the same horse power. All the spec between the 52 and 53 were the same.

It looks like it is something special to us today but back when this car was made this model was almost as bare necessity as they put on the market. Everything you needed and nothing extra that was not an option that you paid for. A really good survivor but that's probably because it was as basic as you could get. You would need to drive it like the age it is. It was born in the same year I was born. At this time in his life, my Dad drove a Chevy Bel Air, but my Mom had a Crestline Victoria.

Correction, price was $1,995 CAN, but in 1953 the exchange rate was around 2 cents difference. The Canadian dollar was at times, in the 1950's and 1960's actually worth slightly more than the USD.

Mike Kallas Yes, Mainline was the base model. It would have had black wall tires - something I’d consider changing if it were my car.

    У меня три вопроса:
Зачем у Волги оторвали оленя, заварили задние двери и зачем-то приделали шильдик Форда? 😁😁😁

You're right. Most 1953 basic Fords like this one, were in the junkyard by the mid-60's.
