Iron Maiden is one of the greatest bands of all time! I grew up listening to them. I have seen them in concert and they put on one hell of a show! This is one of my favorite songs!
Fucking legendary song. Album. Band. Discography. I still quote this literally every time the number 666 comes up. In high school my friends and I used to drive around at like 11 PM blasting iron maiden because that's all there is to do in Ohio and I have never stopped listening. Thanks for doing the studio version too, too many people jump straight to the live versions where you can't hear 90% of the mix.
Love your reaction, Cliff. This song was based on a dream by Steve Harris, the band's amazing bassist... in other words, it's NOT about satan worshipping. Simply indicative of the era, when a lot of people were beginning to question religion and its relation to good vs evil.
Welcome to the Maiden Family, Brother;-) This song is about a nightmare Steve Harris had. He also wrote the song "Fear Of The Dark" because that is how he has felt. Steve Harris isn't afraid to put himself out there through his music, as he is a very talented musician and writer of lyrics. There are so many great songs to choose from, as they have 17 studio albums and there are at least 5 to 6 great songs from each album, if not more, so that is 85 plus awesome songs;-) Up the mighty Irons!!!!!
Rest in Peace to Clive Burr, the drummer on this track. In every video, dude always looked so happy to be there and that, to me, is what music is all about. He always looked so out of place, because he was always smiling while the rest of the guys had on their serious faces, but I know he was the one feeling the music the most, because how could you listen to good music and not smile? If I could see my dad again, there are only a few things I would thank him for, but introducing me to this band is one of them.
I saw them in Long Beach California where I lived at the time I’m in Santa Monica now but they played 4 nights from Thursday to Sunday and I was there all four nights in 1985. They filmed 🎥 the shows for what became the Live After Death cd/dvd! My favorite Bruce Dickinson moment: SCREAM FOR ME LONG BEACH…SCREAM FOR ME LONG BEACH…SCREAM FOR ME LONG BEACH ARENA!!! UP THE IRONS!!!😎😎😎🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
First concert i ever saw was Twisted Sister opening for Iron Maiden the powerslave tour been a fan ever since one of the best metal bands to ever step on a stage and Bruce knows how to get the crowd involved and yes that was a 9 and a half feet tall Eddie walking around on the stage
As a Christian that Loves Iron Maiden, this song and the band do NOT worship Satan. This song actually speaks to the potential of Satanism becoming part of a movement, and looking at what's happening around the world at the moment...??
While I appreciate your view, this song has nothing at all to do with Satanism (surprisingly). It's from a nightmare that Steve Harris had after watching a movie. That's it. It's not deeper than that, and anyone seeing/hearing something more is finding something they're looking for.
This was the first Iron Maiden' song I heard when I was a teen. These guys enjoy playing nowadays as much as they did then. I'm really happy I found them when I was trying to find that 'heavy metal' stuff I somehow knew existed. BTW, I did the opposite. I just suscribbed. Try "Fear of the Dark" (totally my fav) (or '2 minutes to midnight')
When Run To The Hills/this album was released, became INSTANT fan! Over the decades, have heard/noticed lyrical/thematic evolution. Their last 2 albums have seen them making another thematic shift--IMO....Up the Irons!
My bad, sounds like Vincent Price and I remembered he'd done a spoken word intro, just realised my old man brain mixed it up with Michael Jacksons Thriller. 🤒
Your face at the beginning says it all. When he hit that first note and I saw that smile on your face I knew you were into it. Don't worry I did the same thing. Oh and no red flags here all green. I like to add them vocals are just insane
My first introduction to MAIDEN was late 82....my older step brothers station wagon with his friends. I was stuck in the back with the GIANT home made speakers of the day! FIRST time i felt my heart skip a beat, been a fan of and metalhead since! From west coast Canada, peace. UP THE IRONS!!!
Interesting fact, during the recording of the album the producer was involved in a crash between his car and a minibus full of nuns and the mechanics repair bill came to exactly 666 pounds. He insisted on paying 667 pounds!
Great section in Bruce’s autobiography about the trouble he had singing just the opening line of this track in the studio!!! Also just a great autobiography of the artist himself and his progression!!! Available on Kindle and audible too 😝
They blazed onto the American scene in the early 80s with this album, SO many metalheads created (myself included). This is one of their top songs to me, along with "Aces High", "Wasted Years", "The Prisoner", and of course their ultimate, "Hallowed Be Thy Name" (of which Machine Head does an amazing cover, actually). That final verse is simply chilling..."I'm coming back, I will return, I will possess your body and I'll make you burn! I have the fire, I have the force, I have the power to make my evil take its course!"...damn. That could've been written by a Lich in Dungeons & Dragons, hehe.
I was put on the spot by an English teacher in 6th grade to recite a poem. So since I was not prepared I recited the end of Number of the Beast. I'm coming back I will return...... He went a bit white and didn't call on me much after that. Lol
Great reaction! I apologize in advance if someone else mentioned this, but the drummer is a born-again Christian. The stigma attached to this band can still be confused to this day, because of this song. Always a pleasure to watch your reactions! As a side note, I hear you aided your fellow YT reactors, Brad & Lex with copyright issues. I think you're great, my friend. Love, peace, chicken grease.
totally AGREE with the Jack Black reference. I'm not sure if you've listened to Run to the Hills by Iron Maiden, but that song reminds me of Jack Black very closely!
The bassist seen the Omen 2 and had a nightmare. He wrote this song telling his nightmare. The end of the song is what Satan told him in his nightmare.
at the time preachers went off on this published a tract with steve on the cover satanic etc. they have holy smoke with lyrics about tv preachers jimmy the reptile and the makeup queen etc
The first four lines of this song had Bruce Dickinson throwing chairs across the studio. But their producer, Martin Birch, wouldn’t let up until they got it right. Then Martin asked, “Can you do the scream, now?” Bruce said, “Oh, willingly.” Hell was then unleashed.
I remember being a teenager in the 80’s and the whole “Satanic Panic” crap was going on and people tried to say Iron Maiden were devil worshippers….what a load of 💩🤣
I love that you’re digging into more rock and metal! Iron Maiden and Bruce Dickinson were indeed a huge influence on Jack Black and Tenacious D. I don’t think it’s a stretch at all the say that the vast majority of rock and metal that’s come out after Iron Maiden has been influenced by them in some way. They’re legends for a reason!!! Also, this song is a perfect example of Yngwie Malsteem’s philosophy: “Less isn’t more, more is more!!” I know it’s a stretch but I’d love to see Cliff react to some modern metalcore/deathcore. He’ll need to have lyrics on hand for a lot of the screaming but there’s a whole world of incredible lyricism tucked away in so many different “metal” sub genres. A couple of note…. Silent Planet-Panic Room System of a Down-BYOB Fit for an Autopsy-Far From Heaven Cheers!
Maiden does a good live version of Dance Of Death from Santiago Chile 2011 and Rime Of The Ancient Mariner live Long Beach California 1985 , I’ve been following Maiden since late 70s
I discovered Iron Maiden rather late and only clicked with a few songs. However ever since I've heard a cover of this song done by Shawn James years later, I can no longer hear it any other way than his rendition. If you ever get the chance do check it out someday, gave it some extra nuances. EDIT: Personal fav from Iron Maiden, Fear of the dark.
You shouldn't lose viewers, they are not that kind of a band. They are a story telling band about history of the World. And yes Steve Harris wrote this song after having a nightmare from seeing the Omen. He wrote what he saw in his dream.
Tell your religious people on here that there is nothing wrong the number 666! It is an error that was proven decades ago, but Hollywood and the Bible "thumpers", bring on the hate, still insist it's 666. It is actually 616!!! The original Nosferatu is an amazing film!
Nothing more than a song about a nightmare the bass player had after watching a horror film called, "The Omen". Those that are too soft to take should find a safe space, crawl up into a ball and cry themselves to sleep.
It's mad when you see reactors (not yourself, thankfully) think that the bands mean the things they sing about, so many calling Iron Maiden satanic for the lyrics in this song, yet do they think Madonna really wants to "Dress You Up In My Life" or that Was Not Was intend to walk a dinosaur?
I'm happy you enjoy metal music but honestly if you like blistering guitar solos and a voice that sounds like metal you honestly need to check out the Metal Gods themselves Judas Priest. Judas paved the way for Iron Maiden, here's a couple of suggestions, Painkiller the video, and a little more mellow than that Victim of Changes. Dreamer Deceiver/Deceiver
OK sir, imagine, (me) at 12? years old, thinking this is the most amazing thing I've ever heard (again, 12, but loved ACDC) and this video was BANNED. My mom was SO mad that I spent $20 (US) dollars to buy the VHS tape of 4 songs from Maiden. I feel SO old, but I hope you get how spoiled we are now with the internet. 🤘🤘🤘
I grew up with Iron Maiden, it was Steve Harris that got me into playing bass many years ago. You should check out the singer Bruce Dickinsons song, Tears Of The Dragon. And.... completly out of left field, you should check out a track by a southern Indian band called Thaikkudam Bridge - Fish Rock - Live (Kappa TV version) and if you want something... stranger... then Thaikkudam Bridge -Chathe.
Song has nothing to do with the band and ties to Satan stuff. Written by founder and bassist Steve Harris, it's inspired by a dream he had after seeing the movie Omen II.
Hi ya! New subscriber here. So with you growing up around the horror scene I got a couple videos for you. !. Slipknot - The Devil In I. The meaning behind this song is really deep and has nothing to do with Satanism. 2. Mushroomhead - We Are The Truth 3, Avatar - Hail The Apocalypse 4. Lorde - Blood Red Sandman 5. Ghost - Cirice. I hope you give them a reaction
Stop caring about stupid arrogant religious ideas, but respect everyone to have it as long as they keep it to themselves without hatred, arrogance, indoctrination, and racism. Up the Irons!! And yeah, it’s REAL MUSIC!
Steve Harris wrote this song from a nightmare he had after watching "the Omen"
That is awesome maiden info 👍
Iron Maiden is one of the greatest bands of all time! I grew up listening to them. I have seen them in concert and they put on one hell of a show! This is one of my favorite songs!
Bruce Dickinson's scream in the intro is one of the most iconic 'YEEEEEEAAAAAAH's of ALL. TIME. 🤘🤘
For me it's Roger Daltrey's.
Fucking legendary song. Album. Band. Discography. I still quote this literally every time the number 666 comes up. Us also driving around with nothing to do but jam out on Maiden Priest Dio Ozzy Sabbath etc

This whole album was amazing. Man this has taken me back to my early teens. "Run to the Hills" off this album was also a class song.
Hallowed be thy name is a dope song to name one of so many.
Aces high is my first maiden song.
This is the one that introduced me to Iron Maiden and I was hooked!!! They're the tightest live band I ever saw!
Nicko McBrain is always smiling and is the happiest person in the world;-)
Clive Burr was a great drummer. R.I.P Clive Burr.
I saw them in Long Beach California where I lived at the time I’m in Santa Monica now but they played 4 nights from Thursday to Sunday and I was there all four nights in 1985. Best album. Best line up. Best song
Clive Burr was fantastic. The best Metal Drummer
First concert i ever saw was Twisted Sister opening for Iron Maiden the powerslave tour been a fan ever since one of the best metal bands to ever step on a stage and Bruce knows how to get the crowd involved and yes that was a 9 and a half feet tall Eddie walking around on the stage
Maiden has been my favourite band fir 40 years this summer. I love your reactions to them, and find myself smiling every time you say you’re jealous.
As a Christian that Loves Iron Maiden, this song and the band do NOT worship Satan. This song actually speaks to the potential of Satanism becoming part of a movement, and looking at what's happening around the world at the moment...??

Yeah f off with that nonsense.
Not quite my favorite Maiden song, but Bruce's voice in the first section never fails to give me goosebumps. :)
I grow up listen to this and still do today I see them a few time and I love this well put allof today music in a bustbin

I love watching your Maiden reactions! Have you done Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner yet? I thought you had, but can't see it on your list?!
I was in the mood for some iron maiden n u are on it like perfect😅 folks nowadays dont have this talent with guitars 😅
When Run To The Hills/this album was released, became INSTANT fan! Over the decades, have heard/noticed lyrical/thematic evolution. Their last 2 albums have seen them making another thematic shift--IMO....Up the Irons!
RUN TO THE HILLS!!! you'll love that one
The spoken intro is voiced by the one and only Mr Vincent Price. The star of numerous black and white horror movies. Legend.
No it wasn't.
The song opens with a spoken word passage, read by English actor Barry Clayton, which quotes Revelation 12:12 and Revelation 13:18.
My bad, sounds like Vincent Price and I remembered he'd done a spoken word intro, just realised my old man brain mixed it up with Michael Jacksons Thriller. 🤒
Revelations is a masterpiece if you haven’t heard it. Maiden’s music goes in many directions. Awesome band!!!
UP THE IRONS BROTHER!
Up the irons 🤘🏻
I was 17 in '82. This was a whole new Maiden.
Your face at the beginning says it all. When he hit that first note and I saw that smile on your face I knew you were into it. Don't worry I did the same thing. Oh and no red flags here all green. I like to add them vocals are just insane

Run to the hills is a must! Halo be thy name another hit
Man that intro took me right back to highschool playing this song on Guitar Hero.
MAIDEN THE GREATEST BAND OF ALL TIME BUT you must see them live!
Interesting fact, during the recording of the album the producer was involved in a crash between his car and a minibus full of nuns and the mechanics repair bill came to exactly 666 pounds. He insisted on paying 667 pounds!

Ayy! My dad named me Damien after the Onen!
My dad tried but my mom wasn’t having it. 😂
The bassist seen the Omen 2 and had a nightmare. He wrote this song telling his nightmare. The end of the song is what Satan told him in his nightmare.
🤘
hallowed be thy name 1982 live, the best live performance.
Do Run to the Hills!! Guaranteed to give you an energy boost!!! 😁
Best fry scream ever !! 🤘
Just a lot of fun to listen to
Dude, this album was a popular choice for the record burnings back in the 1980's. This song was the poster child for not understanding the music.
at the time preachers went off on this published a tract with steve on the cover satanic etc. they have holy smoke with lyrics about tv preachers jimmy the reptile and the makeup queen etc
First vinyl album I bought at 13. The beginning is a bible verse. Revelation 13:18. Maiden is a walk through history in their lyrics
Iron Maiden are amazing live even today. Cliff if you like horror movies try listening to Ice Nine Kills. Anything from the silver scream album.
Vincent Price does the introduction, Horror movie ICON
NO he doesn't - it was Barry Clayton that did it. The band could not afford Price.
Saw this show, they were opening for Scorpion on Blackout tour
They bring out a 14' tall robot of their mascot Eddie in their live shows. It's amazing live. I highly recommend you see them in concert.
The song was inspired by the poem Tam o Shanter by Robert Burns
Bru your a major player in the rock scene when you have a official Lego video to the studio track. FUNNY AS HELL.
If you noticed on School Of Rock Jack Black van had Iron Maiden decal on door
I love the intro is Vincent price. He is a legend just like the band so its fitting.
NO it isn't - the intro voiceover was done by Barry Clayton. The band could not afford Price.
Funny you mention Damien. This song was written after several sleepless nights due to that movie.
You need to check their live stuff!!!!!!!
You have to check Fear of the dark for sure. That was my fav album ftom teen times... Its darker...😊
🤘🏻🎶🤘🏻🤍 grew up on Iron Maiden….

His song is about a dream a member of the bad had
This song is about the dangers of evil. He switches perspectives from a witness and what he saw... to the Devil himself.

Wait, do you have a 6 birthmark too? Mine's in the middle of my back. Guess we were both born for the flames 😅

Not too late to play guitar. I started at 50 and don't regret a minute.
Do you research, alot of good cheap guitars and amps.

The voice was Vicente price the greatest horror actor of the 40s and 50s
Intro voice was actually Barry Clayton, Vincent wanted to much money
Nothing more than a song about a nightmare the bass player had after watching a horror film called, "The Omen".
Those that are too soft to take should find a safe space, crawl up into a ball and cry themselves to sleep.
Jack Black was probably influenced by Dio as well. Eighties metal in general.
80's classic metal is still winning
think you could check out jason isbell and the 400 unit "go it alone"
