    Now Water is going to be paired with fire when volcanion comes out as well as the fact that it has been paired with fairy (Azumarill). By this logic, water will have been with every single type.

    Ahem.
    Prior to the split that occurred in Generation IV, types were categorized exclusively as either Special or Physical. Water, Grass, and Ice, the Ground type's weaknesses, were all categorized as Special types and therefore used Special type moves. Even after the split, a majority of the moves within these types remain categorized as Special rather than Physical.
    Your dice.

    The reason ghost is weak against itself is because in ancient folklore one of the ways to defeat a ghost is to hit it with an object that is the same SPIRITUAL mass as the ghost
    this also shows why ghost type attacks were physical attack in the past

      To be honest, it's probably right smack dab in the middle. It's a good type with some good Pokemon, but I can't get behind the type match-ups with them. While other types had some clever meaning behind their weaknesses and strengths, Fairy type is there for no other reason than to balance with no thought put into the concept of Fairy type itself. They could have called it flargen type and it wouldn't make any difference.

      superflipper76 Type matchups shouldn't affect what you think of a type. Also, what's with that gripe of yours about a type being weak to itself? Pokemon like Nidoqueen and Lucario are weak to their own type, and what does it mean? Absolutely nothing. Just my opinion though.

    Yes! After scrolling through countless top 17/18s, I finally found someone who appreciates the awesome of Poison :) It was my favorite from the start, and to be honest, most other types don't really have a chance in my preference. At first, I was glad it wasn't in the bottom few right along with normal, bug, and ice, but was genuinely surprised to hear "water" as number two, with Poison left over. Nice video, I like how you included statistical evidence to back up your points.

    I must say, I was the same with Poison types. I used to think they were weak and an absolute horror to fight with. However, when I tried a Poison type run for a challenge, I discovered how good they were. When you see the 1º Gym Leader be a Rock-type Master, it's interesting that Brock are the only one that is easier to beat than the others. It's so amazing to see that Roxanne does with a Thunder Wave in your face, with almost none special attacks earlier in your party to defeat easier her strategy.

    Pretty good list. Poison is my favorite type. Even did a soulsilver run of only poison types once that was pretty fun. I probably would have put ice higher up, but the rest of this list we pretty accurate to my tastes. Actually, I probably would have swapped ice and flying. You didn't really point out too many good qualities of flying types despite having them so high on the list. In fact, I almost only heard negative qualities that you seemed to disguise behind HM02. Good video overall though.

    @c.d.dailey8013 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Wow. I like your video a lot. It is interesting that you encourage us to have a go with our own top 18. So I will have a go. My opinion can vary with changes in my own skill, as well as changes in the game itself. So I'll take a stab at it. I will have to break it in chunks due to the horrid limitations of comments. I apoligize for inconvenience.
    18. Normal- Normal is the worst type for me. I love hitting hard with supereffective STAB moves. Normal is the worst type for it, because it isn't supereffective against anything.
    17. Ghost- I agree with you that ghost isn't very good. It has some nice status effects and immunities. However I don't find them useful to me personally. I usually go for the dark type. It is like ghost but better. A huge plus is that it is resistant to itself, which makes a lot of sense.
    16. Poison- I am sorry dude, but I am not a fan of poison. I don't like how it is only good against one other type, which has plenty of other weaknesses. Poison did get better in gen 6, but I prefer to use steel instead. I wonder what your strategy is. I will just have to come up with a strategy. If I remember correctly, one of your favorite pokemon is Scolipede. It is the cetipede of swag. I like it a lot, even though I am not a fan of either of its types. It has a cool concept and design. It is also nifty in battle. Scolipede is one of my favorite gen 5 Pokemon. It is a diamond in the rough. Scolipede is poison and bug. It is not weak to earthquake, because bug resistance cancels things out. Scolipede can set things up with toxic. So the opponent is gradually weakened. Then Scolipede can hit hard with venoshock. This move is pretty strong on its own, and it is doubled by the poison status. So scolipede can hit just about any opponent super hard. The poison type being only supereffective against one type is no longer an issue. If the opponent happens to the grass or fairy, they are so dead. The downside is that this strategy is that it doesn't work against poison and steel opponents. They are immune to the status. So instead, Scolipede uses earthquake to hit supereffectivly on them. As a fourth move, I like to go for megahorn. It is a powerful attack that makes use of Scolipede's other type. So even the poison weakness to psychic is not such an issue. So both poison weakness to ground and psychic are taken care of. Scolipede can hold leftovers or black sludge to help it stay in battle longer. Swarm would make for the better ability. So Scolipede gets an even more powerful megahorn in a tough spot. Poison point is pretty pointless. Toxic is a far better way to go, because it does not involve luck. Overall this would be a good Pokemon to have. I thought of having a combonation of steamroller and king's rock, but the flinching effects don't stack. Darn it. That would have been so good for stalling the opponent so they are hurt even more by toxic.
    15. Grass- I like to hit really hard in battle. There are no tricks, gimmicks or dancing around. So I don't like ghost, poison or grass, because they are just not designed to fit my preferences. Out of the three, I like like grass the best. Sure they are not good at heavy hitting. They also have way too many weaknesses. However they have the most fun dancing around. Gras has a wide variety of tricks up thier sleeve. There is status, leach seed, healing, sunny weather and so forth. This makes the battle a really cool time for strategy. It is nice that grass can be used really well in the right hands.
    14. Dragon- Dragons are a guilty pleasure.That is such a good way to describe them. I have fond memories of having a dragonite or flygon on my team and wrecking stuff up. It can be fun to use a strong dragon type. There are good stats. However when I became more experienced, I use dragon types less. It is more than just thier nerf in gen 6. Dragon types are not good for me because they don't deal supereffective moves except to themselves. Dragons are a lot like normal types. They are the two most flexible and versatile types. they can go against most pokemon and turn out okay. The downside is that they are not supereffective against other types. They are a jack of all trades and master of none. I think the reason why dragonite and flygon worked so well for me is that they had a good secondary type. I find pure dragon types to be rather unplesent to use. Maybe there really is no such thing as a bad type. Normal and dragon types are very versitile. Ghost, poison and grass are very good at status and strategy. I think the main reason why they are so low on the list is that they don't suit me personally.
    13. Bug- Bug types are okay. I like their set of strengths. They are good at grass, psychic and bug. However bug isn't really the type I go for a lot. There are just better types out there that can cover the strengths well. It also doesn't help that bugs are weak.
    12. Steel- Twelve is a special number. If I use all duel types, I can use twelve types. So this can be the threshold of types that I eagerly go to use. The first is steel. I used to dislike steel a lot, because its offenses were so bad. Then it got a boost in gen 6. I find that mixing steel with one of the types higher on the list can provide a good asset to the team. It is my type of choice for the super specialized role of countering the fairy type. I like steel a lot more than poison. Steel has good passive qualities like high defense, and tons of resistances. So I can focus more on powerful offensive hits instead trying to set up status moves. Steel would have an advantage over poison due to its immunity.
    13. Rock- Oh rock on! I don't like to use rock as on of the main types in a party. However it is freaking phenominal as a secondary type. It is supereffective against four types, which is a lot. The downside is that they are slow and they have too many weaknesses. You have an interesting description of rock. It is something that can be really good, if one knows what they are doing. I find that the best thing to do with a rock pokemon is to put it at the back of the party. Unlike and electric type, they are not good as a lead. I wait until the opponent is about to use something weak against rock. Then I whip out the rock type. Rock types can be a gamble. However with my switching strategy, I can use rock to my favor very effectivly.
    10. Ice- Ice is very similar to rock. It is supereffective against a lot of types and it is weak against a lot of types. I treat it the same as a rock type, and put it in the back of my party until I can use it effectivly. One of my favorite pokemon is Amaura and it has a unique rock/ice typing. I used one on my team in my first gen 6 playthrough. It turned out to be very successful. I wait for the right opportunities to use it, but those oppotunities came very often. I like ice better than rock, because it has the special niche of being good against dragon. Before gen 6 I used to use ice types against dragon gym leader and elite four members all the time. My favorite Pokemon to use is Lapras. It is strong, and the water type helps neutralize some of the ice weaknesses.

    • @c.d.dailey8013
      @c.d.dailey8013 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      9. Fairy- Fairy is the new guy. I don't have a lot of experience with this type, but I like it so far. It has a great niche of being really strong against dragon. It is also strong against two of my favorite types, fighting and dark. It is impressive. This isn't a major go to type for me now, but that could change in the future. You did note some cool things in this video. You said that dragons are overpowered. I see that they added fairy to nerf it. You do have poison and steel being two of your favorite types. You sure benifitted because they got buffed with thier strength against fairies. Eevee is one of my favorite Pokemon. I like Sylveon. It is like umbreon in that it has a new type in the generation it comes from. I want a dragon type eeveelution. It would make a good partner for Sylveon. It would be like espeon in that it is the formerly overpowered type weak against the new type.
      8. Psychic- Psychics are cool. I find them useful in battle. I like how they are strong against fighting and poison. It sounds fun to use a psychic to wreck things really hard. However I started playing after the gen 2 nerf, so I didn't get to have the glory days.
      7. Fire- Fire is an awesome! Kill it with fire! Fire is fantastic for my fighting style. It is supereffective against four types which is awesome. It is the same as rock and ice. Fire is the best out of the three, because it doesn't have a lot of weaknesses. Starting with fairy, the types higher on my list have no serious drawbacks. So I am happy to use any of them. Ice is in the middle, because it has a nice niche of strength against dragon. Rock is the least useful. It has a good resistance against normal. However I would rather use fighting against normal any day. Fire is a strong choice as an honerable mention. The only reason why it isn't higher is that it don't complement the high types on the list. However I did recently figure out that I can squeeze fire in my party. I can just use a pokemon that is part fire, part something else.
      6. Dark- I am fond of the dark type. It is a niche type but it is such a good niche type. Its strength against ghost is nice but I don't use it often. However I relish the strength against psychic. The top six are special in that one can have one Pokemon each in the party even if all are single types. I like to squeeze in dark to get a bit more coverage for my team. It is less useful outside the specialization, so it isn't higher on the list. I wonder if other niches would fit better in the six place. Yet there is something to keep in mind. I won't see dragon or fairy types everyday. However psychic types are a lot more common. So that makes dark a reliable and useful asset to the team. You did list dark, water and poison in your go to types for teams. I wonder if you could throw in steel, fire and flying while you're at it. Venoshock alone can wreck the opponents. Then two types can cover the limitations of poison. You can use fire against steel opponents and steel against poison opponents.
      5. Flying- No more walking! I am very fond of flying types.The HM move is really handy. I also like how well it complements the types higher on the list. The strengths to grass, bug and fighting is nice. When I really think of it, there are ways to work around. I could use a fire type with a psychic or fairy to get the same coverage. Fairy is a good replacement for dark if dragons give me a hard time. Still I like all the types. If I use enough duel types, I can have all in my team.
      4. Fighting- I like to hit really hard in battle. I make use of type effectiveness and STAB. I also like to train a lot to gain levels. As a result I like to streak through the playthrough of a game and one shot nearly everything that stands in my way. The design of fighting types is perfect for my playing style. There is straightforward aggression with kicking and punching. For this reason fighting is one of my favorite types, and I love to use it in battle. FIghting is supereffective against 5 other types, which is the most out of any type. It is also the only type supereffective against the common normal type.
      3. Ground- It is just dirt, but I still like it. Ground is a real heavy hitter. It is one of my favorite types because it perfectly fits my fighting style. I love to use it in battle. Ground also has supereffectivness to five types. It is the only type supereffective against electric. I like ground a bit better than fighting. It has a nice defense of being immune to the electric type. A combo of supereffectivness and imunity is nice. It is something that ground has. Dark and fairy are like this too. Dig is a nice ground move to have on the field. If you don't like ground types, that is okay. To each thier own. I wonder if part of the reason why you don't like ground is that it is supereffective against poison.
      2. Water- Water has been one of my favorite types for a long time. I use water types a lot. I like how it has only two weaknesses but still has a very deent coverege of supereffective moves. Water is nice for the HMs. It is also nice for a versatility of secondary types. This has been improved in later times. Azumaril and Primarina are water and fairy. Volcaneon is water and fire.
      1. Electric- Electric has always been my top favorite type. There are some good properties in battle. Electric has the least weaknesses of any type, which is one. Normal has one too. Electric is so much better than normal. It is also supereffective against flying and water. So I find it very useful. I put electric in my team a whole lot. This type is good for being at the front. I can whip it out right away. Since electric only has one weakness, I rarely have to switch it out. The speed of electric is nice too. I can strike right away. Then when an opponent uses a different pokemon, I can change my pokemon to counter it. I aim for stuff that is supereffective. If I have rock and/or ice, I can use it later on. Pikachu is my top favorite Pokemon. I enjoyed it in the anime as well as the game. So that is part of the reason why electric is my favorite. But hey. That is just a theory, a Game Theory. Aaand cut.

    The Grass-type is my favourite type because of those rare fast Pokemon like Lilligant and Sceptile. The defensive ones like Ferrothorn and Tangrowth can RUIN YOUR OPPONENT'S DAY if used correctly.

    After many years, we have finally a poison type legendary in the form of Eternatus, one of the most powerful if not the most powerful pokemon in existence. It has interesting lore, the Darkest Day caused by Eternatus takes place in the exact same time period as the pokemon war from 3000 years ago, it's move pool is a force to be reckoned with, with moves like sludge wave, toxic, cosmic power and the gimmick destroying dynamax cannon. It's stats were already powerful in it's normal state with high hp and special attack while also have some good defenses and speed. It's Eternamax form however overthrown Mega Rayquaza from the throne of strongest pokémon. Eternatus has a base stat total of 690, which is already powerful for a legendary pokémon, but it's Eternamax base stat total is 1125! That's higher than any other pokémon. It's hp rivals Blissey, it's defenses surpasses even Shuckle and it's speed rivals even Mewtwo. My god, that's ridiculous. Thank goodness it can't be used aside of the cameo with Eternabeam, because otherwise competitive play would be unbalanced af.

    My least favorite type is Fighting as some of my most painful memories involve said type and I'm not too big on many designs, if I like a fighting Pokemon they are either very lucky or paired with another type. My favorite type is Dragon for its power, mythologies, designs and even the struggle as if to say you have to earn their power in order to use it. Poison and Normal are both truly underrated and look forward to making use of both. Also I look forward to using Fairy type, even though it is immune to Dragon I welcome it with open arms. Also, superflipper76, what are your stances on Fairies?

    Finally someone else sees the awesomness that is the poison type. I'm doing a playthrough of Pokemon White currently and my team is made up of 1 fire type, 1 psychic type, 1 grass type, 1 normal type, 1 flying type, and (my favorite) 1 poison type. My best Pokemon are my Musharna, my Stoutland, and most of all my Arbok.

    While I can recommend a lot of sites to back myself up, go to Bulbapedia and type in "Special moves". There, they will show which types, until the Physical-Special split in Gen IV, were special. As you can see (if you bothered to look at it), Water, Grass, and Ice are all considered special, and even with the split, they still are mostly comprised of Special moves.
    I don't know which game you were playing, but Ice and Grass were always considered Special.
    Sidenote: I actually like Yellow. :3

    The only bad thing about poison is abilities that can counter the status problem like magic guard ( I have a clefable that knows it and a roserade that knows natural cure which kind of counts). However I do agree that water is a good type, it's my favourite.

  • @YAZZOwatcher
    @YAZZOwatcher 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    'Cause of my personal opinion =D
    But they also do have actual uses, immunity to normal and fighting attacks (without the use of odour slouth etc.). Are only weak to other ghosts and dark types. I would say has a pretty balanced move pool (although few ghost type attacks), a lot of ghost type attacks have secondary effects which only effect the target. Ghost type moves are also accurate, with all of them having 100% accuracy.
