Mastering Power Shot Spring Bass With BFS Setups!

  • Arizona native Josh Bertrand hits up his home water in Arizona to demonstrate the effectiveness of the power shot technique for spring bass relating to woody cover. But his unique drop shot rig adaptation has a unique BFS (Bait Finesse System) twist. A combination of clear water and cover makes a finesse power shot with a BFS reel the ideal blend of finesse and power for making quick-fire pitches to optimal cover and with the muscle to extract bass from cover.

    AN INTRODUCTION TO POWER SHOT FISHING WITH BFS
    Bertrand's setup revolves around the versatility of the BFS reel, a key component in his power shot fishing technique. By pairing a lightweight BFS reel with a 7-foot medium power casting rod, he achieves faster and more accurate casts than with spinning setups. This setup also proves effective in steering a fish away from snags after hooking up. BFS allows for the effective delivery of a light drop shot weight (1/4-ounce) and 6-inch finesse worm to ensure a slower fall and subtle presentation--crucial for wary spring bass in clear water.
    LINE CHOICES FOR BFS POWER SHOT FISHING
    Bertrand prefers a highly supple braided mainline to a fluorocarbon leader connected with an FG or Crazy Alberto knot. The braid flies off the reel while eliminating line twist issues and the fluorocarbon leader adds stealth. In short, a BFS reel spooled with braid to a fluorocarbon leader delivers better pitching efficiency and fish-fighting power than spinning setups around cover. You get the best of both worlds: spinning-like finesse with the power of baitcasting gear.
    BFS keeps infiltrating tried-and-true fishing techniques with new adaptations. Josh Bertrand's exploration of BFS for the power shot technique equips anglers with new and practical twists on drop shot bass fishing.

    I have been using BFS for a couple of years now and it has it's place in allot of situations plus it is a fun way to fish. Glad to see more people discovering it and making great videos on it's use. Keep them coming!

    Seems like some heavy gear for a bfs reel. A standard Zenon reel would handle that line and weight perfectly

    I agree with other people who have commented. You could have used another reel . A bfs reel spool is not made to handle 30lb braid . Bfs spools are very light weight. The material/aluminum is thin and that large braid could easily warp or bend the spool if you put too much force or pressure on the spool.

    That’s no way BFS! You can do the SAME thing with a normal reel. That’s just using the buzz word “BFS”… not the actual thing. Sorry. Let’s call a cat a cat. If I use a Swimbait rod to drop shot, I’m not swimbait’ing! I’m still drop shoting…

      Lol my first thought exactly as I saw the title. "Power shot" and BFS don't belong in the same sentence. I power shot on standard 70, 100 size reels. M to MH rods.

      @MrLapin-LL 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@4g63power1 I’m just saying that he’s talking about a “BFS setup”, same in the title, and this no BFS setup. This is a BFS reel. No BFS rod, no BFS line, no BFS weight or lure. That’s it. Nothing more, nothing less. But don’t get me wrong, I get that a light spool will help a lot for short distance pitching! I’m not saying he’s wrong! He’s totally on it!! Just don’t say stuff like “BFS setup” when your equipment can easily throw a 1/2 jig… By yea, the technic proposed is fire for sure!👍

      My BFS rod is an old 18,7’Ultra light 4-6 lb. Test,1/32-3/16. Rod also made in the USA “ Texas”, pair with a JDM dAiwa DAiwa. This is what I consider BFS setup . I use 1.2 gauge braid.”15lb test” with 6lb floral carbon
